Welcome to Venezuela!
Once again, Vuelta al Tachira will be the first race of the season to offer mountains. And also sprint stages, and time trials - including an opening team time trial. A quick look at the startlist shows Jose Alarcon is here, so good luck everyone else!

Ivan Kovalev is firing up the CSC squad full of climbers in hopes he can get some help in TTT on the opening stage.

Really exited to see the team start of the season in a race, were we are looking for a good result through Castaño who will hopefully show why he performed so well in the Giro last year!
Too bad that the team will lose a unknown amount of time on this first stage but I'm sure Carlos will get some time back later!

Much more popular than in recent years this one.
Come on Carrara, though he has more competition than I had planned on. |

Go away Alarcon! I picked this race to avoid guys like him.
Anyway, hopefully we limit losses in the TTT and Nazaret gets given a free reign in the mountains. |

The overall just goes over Alarcon and Emu Export I think with outsider chances of California or Pirelli.
But as it is Alarcon`s home race he should be unbeatable.
Still I hope for some nice action in the mountain and interesting other stages. |

Wow surprisingly good start from the team, it's good to see Castaño getting 30 seconds on Alarcon from the start though I highly doubt it will have any impact on the outcome of this race.
Can't wait for the mountains now, the team looks more than ready to at least challenge Alarcon a bit!

Awesome, stage 1 up already. Glad to have only lost 7'. 1' behind Pirelli, i have a feeling that battle will be close the whole way. |

Team WWE wins a stage! The name change did good! Also having quite a strong team lined up here.

Volkswagen absolutely dominating the young rider classification now. That might be a small consolation for just missing out on the TTT.

Argh, I really believed I would win that stage with Ratiy/Schädlich/Müller/Veikkanen/Li... Anyway, Ratiy with a good GC placing, without Alarcon here I hoped he could fight for the win, but now I will be really happy with second. Now comes 2 stages where I hope Sabatini will be able to do something

'31 seconds behind. It could be worse
I'm surprised Rujano is not here, he's also Venezuelan. Hopefully Alarcon can bounce back in the mountains. But first comes two sprints, hope Haedo and Jørgensen can do something good there. Should be a nice race to read about, hopefully Alarcon doesn't crash out |

Team WWE having quite a nice start to the season here! Imagine Heine will see that Kessiekoff in the lead is a bit of a double blow.
In fact, I think this sets the scene nicely for the season in that there are 12 teams here making this one much more of a race than the six team point-a-thon it was last year. Five of what I would consider to be promotion chasers here - you'll have to read my previews to see which those are likely to be!
Last year's champion Ochoa Quintera is going to find it very difficult to beat Alarcon. It's only fair that I burgen Jose Alarcon with the poisoned charm that is the 'predo curse'. Let's do a predo top three:
1. Alarcon
2. Nazeret
3. Castano
@ember: I suspect Rujano has more limited race days than Alarcon, a 12 day c1 stage race may seem wasteful of his talents.

Yeah, can't see Ochoa Quintero repeating here this year, field just looks too strong. Hoping that he, or one of the Martinez's, can sneak a stage win instead. |

Great start for Ferrari! 6th place is much better than I had expected. Looking forward to see what Niemiec can do in the mountains.

Hoped for a better TTT - that was just about the best guys I could have had in it. Still, shouldn't have any bearing on a high position for Carrara. |

Rujano has only 36 race days and wasting 1/3 here would be devastating for my plans in upcoming season. As Smowz mentioned at his great preview, good planning is a key

First show of a true PCM11 sprint finish, and in my opinion, a very good start! Impressive lead out by Cerne.
