It has been entertaining, but also one of the most dramatic (non good way) first week of a tour that I can remember. Never have I seen so many top 20 contenders go out like that. Really looking forward to the mountains next week, where the favourites will battle against eachother instead of bad luck and stupidity

I'd say any of them had a chance for Top 10.
I don't have words for this week, so no comment for me :/

Can Vincent Jérôme make it to Paris without losing his position ?
I say it's going to be a tough contest. |

I just hope Hoogerland will recover a bit during the rest day. I would love to see him winning the KoM jersey.

"I think Garmin-Cervelo went very fast on the descent,” explained Andreas said after a trip to the hospital for x-rays. “I was in a good position, I think maybe fifteenth from the front of the peloton. But they came in too fast to a left-hand corner and some guys crashed in front of me. I had no chance to stay on the road. I went off into the forest and fell down maybe 7-8 meters down the incline and I hit my lower back. Afterwards I had to ride and come back to the peloton which I did. But in the last kilometer uphill I couldn’t follow the last accelerations because I couldn’t stand up on the pedals. So I lost some time. It’s very painful.”
Rest in Peace, Wouter Weylandt.
Rest in Peace, Xavier Tondo

He is really brave to continue the Tour even ending in the last group every day (in time limits). People don't speak much about him but he's really suffering every day , it wwas one of his dreams to ride the Tour but it's looking more lika a nightmare...
Team Europcar !!
RIP Wouter

I know after all Vinokourov has done in his career with doping, I hope he recovers andhe will continue for another year, be really sad to see him go out like this, this is from a guy who hated his guts when he came back from his ban, but I have forgiven him and he has become a rider I look up to because of his attacking style, it is a joy to watch him, I really hope he doesn't retire, please Vino don't

Did he crash in the one of the early stages? Sorry for my ignorance but Vincent Jerome is not really the top story in Denmark.

The biggest suprise the first week for me has to be Hushovd, and the biggest dissapointment has to be all the crashes made from the motor driven vechicals...

For me is Vande Velde. Sitting in 19th with so many top-10 riders falling and withdrawing, it's something he has to be feel happy about it. |

Really sick week in France, so many top 10 contenders out, another bunch of them badly injured (Gesink,Kreuziger).
What should Astana do now?Going for the stages probably, but Vino out, Kreuziger happy to hold on the bike somehow, rest of the team fallen too
And please, no Schleck for the win

I think Di Gregorio will be going for stages. Possibly some of the others as well. |

Contador's knee injury seems like a bad one ...
Everyone's having so much bad luck, except for the Schlecks

What a huge shame it would be for the race, if Contadors knee is so bad he cant do anything in the moutains. |

He crashed on the first 1-3 stages. Not sure which one. I think it was even the first. Since then he has the red lantern every day. Would be nice to see him wearing it for 21 stages.
There is a German blog on a cycling page about him. Stage for stage they make a short report about the red lantern and so far it was always about hi,m. |
