Le Tour de France 2011
Carhaix > Cap Fréhel 164.5 km
Stage Info (From Cyclingnews.com)
This is a relatively short stage but once again, Prudhomme has allowed for the possibility of a surprise. With 70 coastal kilometres into the finish, echelons are sure to form if the wind picks up strongly off the English Channel. Of course, last year Prudhomme and co. made a good deal of exactly this happening on the opening road stage in Holland but the stage passed in almost total calm. But even in easy conditions, there is sure to be a big battle near the front of the peloton in the closing kilometres, which should conclude with a hotly contested bunch sprint.

Don't anyone dare pronouncing that finale X in Carhaix, thank you.
Even non Bretons here are unable to pronounce that properly. "Car ay", d'oh. Not "carex" or something. |

Looks to be a bunch sprint. I'm hoping for a good swift result

Probably not enough wind to split the bunch tomorrow.

What about the small hills at the end? I was reading somewhere that with 4 to 3 kms to go should be with 5% avg.
But my guess will be a sprint finish too. Hope Rojas will win it, but Cavendish is the obvious |

wind should be fairly the same. i wonder what the effects of the croswind will be near the coast. Echelons are a possibilty

Yep, not especially much wind predicted here (100 km South-East of the finish), but some rain showers.
Echelons are indeed a possibility/probability, but tomorrow again the roads will be quite wide, the peloton won't be long enough to really break into echelons, at least I think so.
I can't see the hills there making much of a difference, by the way. Had the stage finished in Saint-Brieuc, that'd have been a different story, especially if they didn't use the biggest roads but went through the countryside instead. Even a fat-assed Cavendish won't be dropped in the last 20 km tomorrow.
(I've ridden a classic race for U17 that passed alongside the Cap Fréhel 12 years ago, mind you all. One of my friend blew his lung there, that day. )

I'm in Pas de Calais for work this morning. Crosswind is starting to pick up coming from england. Looks promising for echelons!

The weather report for St. Brieuc (they ride through there today), says 6-7 m/s winds coming from the south west. Sadly not really good conditions for echelons.

My money's on Farrar. His team just seems more unified as of late.

Farrar and Garmin may are on fire but this has Cavendish written all over it. Manx's Missille is my bet! |
