Pirelli - Alfa Romeo 2012
rycadinho
i52.tinypic.com/15mi5ib.png

The team was created back in 2011, where the famous football team F.C Internazionale together with tyre company Pirelli provided the funds for Rycadinho to create a good team for the continental tour. After a decent first season, ending as 20 in the standings, lead by profiles as José Serpa, Alberto Loddo and Ryder Hesjedal did Inter decide to pull out their sponsorship for the next season. Car company Alfa Romeo, owned by Fiat, decided to fill the gap and suddenly was the team sponsored only by Italian companies. This won't affect Rycadinhos friendly minded view on foreigner riders, though a strong Italian base is a must. The team has achieved Pro Continetal status for season 2012 and it will therefore be possible to participate in Pro Tour races, through Wild Cards.

Changes expected for Pirelli - Alfa Romeo before and under transfer season.

It’s already safe to say that our young lads from Wikipedia, will return to the American Pro tour team, after riding with us in the last season. Nick Kinney, Ben Curfs and Stelly Robert will be missed, though we might see them return under my guidance in the future, if that’s possible. We are aware that the team right now is one of the oldest and that’s one of the reasons why the following riders will have to look for a new team to race for. Ivan Basso didn’t perform as we had hoped; therefore will he have to take a significant pay cut or accept to be released during the renewal period. Luca Paolini has been a great asset for our team, especially was his performance in Olympia tour great and Loddo will need a new leadout man for the sprints. Another experienced, but Old Italian rider, Paolo Tiralongo will also be on another team for the next season, if he manages to get a contract. Tiaan Kannemeyer was a gamble, and since he isn’t quite young anymore have we decided to parts way with him.

Some riders are still not 100 % sure to be on the team perhaps surprisingly some of the biggest and if not the biggest name on Pirelli-Alfa Romeo. José Serpa had a good season for us, though his wages are too high for a rider, who doesn’t have the age with him. It therefore remains to see if our Colombian star will remain, only time will tell. We didn’t feel that Zakayo Ndbri has performed well enough to justify his high wages, but just like Serpa will we try to find a fair solution. Our two Spaniards Iban Mayo and Isidro Nozal had both a reasonable first season with the team, but because of our wish to make the team younger, then they might have to accept a low wage or instead look for a new team.

We are looking on a few riders, who would be interesting to sign during the transfer window; though our activity depends on whether Serpa leaves and how big a budget we will have during the transfer season. A new stage racer is very much in the cards, especially if Serpa leaves, but one or two strong classic riders could be temping too to get. The most important thing is to get riders for a reasonable fee, and that they can provide the class to complete our not yet known race goals, for the new season. Even though the team is Italian, then the directors and I agree that it’s for the better to have a mix between foreigners and Italian riders. We believe that it creates a good environment, and it doesn’t restrict us that much especially since there are quite many Italian teams around already.

Equipment has been completed for the upcoming season.

A huge thanks goes to Pinarello for giving us some nice looking frames, designed by felix_29. We hope it will give us an small edge against our competitors though it will always come down to the rider himself. Another special mention has to go to BoogieBoogie who was appointed for Limar, to make the designs for the helmets. We are satisfied with both results and together with some nice looking wheels from Campagnolo will we hopefully be one of the most recognizable teams in the peloton .

We are also getting closer and closer to the renewal phase though there hasn't been any sort of development with our "stay or loose" riders including José Serpa. Any news about the development, good or bad outcome, will be announced as fast as possible.

Goals announced for season 2012

The team will continue to focus on mountainous terrain, that's pretty clear after the goals for Pirelli - Alfa Romeo have been made official by UCI. The team will once again try to end as one of the 10 best teams in the division, though a big leap has to be made compared to last seasons 20th place.

Italian races are as always a focus point and we will have to get two top five finishes in Giro del Trentino and Brixia Tour, two very hard stage races.

Some would argue that those three goals would be the most important for the team, but that's not the case at all. We will have to either keep Serpa and hope that he canwin Transfagarasan GP and end at least as fifth in Corsica International to complete the final two goals. A new rider might be another solution, but the market has not even begun, so it's still too early to concentrate on any other riders than those we still have left after last season.

The goals are clearly not easy to achieve, but we find them realistic especially if we look at our current roster and the results they provided last year. We are fully aware that there will be a incredible battle between the Italian teams, but this will only motivate the lads to perform even better - it was hard enough to see Ricco & co. take all the honours, especially the pro tour promotion, and we will do our best to show that we have what it takes to be the best cycling team from Italy in a few seasons.

Renewals done - Serpa stays, but Ivan the Terrible is gone

We went to the renewal phase with a couple of goals, and all of them was achieved. First of all has the board decided that we need a younger team, not only to create a better climate but also so we have a better chance to compete in the future. It's easier to build something destined for greatness in a couple of years than picking the easier solution by buying champions in every transfer season, who don't have many years left in their legs. I can't hide that this was a approach we took last year, something we also felt when the season was over with our ovr. 20th place.

That's why I with great satisfaction can announce that last year star of the show José Serpa has accepted a significant pay cut and will therefore remain for at least another year on the team. We have managed to keep all of our best riders and everyone but Ryder Hesjedal has taken either a small or large cut in their wages. The only rider who we from start feared would not accept the new policy was Ivan Basso. He will have to look for another team, but we wish him all the best and who knows he might be joining us in the future again.

Tiaan Kannemeye, the two Spaniards Nozal and Mayo, Luca Paolini and Tiralongo are the others who will be free on the marked since we felt the team needs a couple of new faces taking their places. Just like Ivan will we root for them to stay in the peloton and a special mention has to go to Luca, who was absolutely phenomenal last year showing glimpses of his best days as the lieutenant of Paolo Bettini.

That's it for now, though the transfer period will soon be over us and for that have the board decided to give us a bigger budget than last year thanks to our fine results in some key races. This will come in handy since we need 1-2 guys who can lessen the burden Serpa had last season. There are many interesting names on the marked, though we will opt to stay in the dark and wait for the perfect deal instead of focussing too much on one rider with the risk of losing him.

Colombian star refuses to commit his future for Pirelli - Alfa Romeo

Rumours has been for the last couple of weeks, especially under the renewals, that star man of the previous season José Serpa wished to move on after a rather successful first season at now Pirelli - Alfa Romeo. Apparently is the Colombian ace not happy about the new approach team manager Rycadinho has decided to take with a bigger focus on younger riders. This comes as a surprise after Serpa penned a 1-year extension of his contract with the Italian outfit even accepting a rather significant paycut. Money doesn't seem to be the main concern though as our sources tell that Serpa was rather unhappy with the fact that the two Spaniards Iban Mayo and Isidro Nozal were not granted a renewal - two riders who was very close to him during his first stint at Pirelli - Internazionale.

Several Colombian newspapers speculates that Serpa indeed has asked his Agent to push for a move to a team that could possible push him towards a team that would have a strong Colombian/Spain base. One name that can't be ignored in this case is of course the only Colombian protour team Café de Colombia, who has earlier expressed their interested in the 33 year old national champion. It would make sense if Serpa will be joining them since they have a huge gap to fill after releasing riders like Vuelta a España winner Alejandro Valverde, Gomez Marchante and Fabio Duarte. Another possible option could be the new continental team, CSC - Orbea who already has expressed interest in several Colombian riders although this is purely speculation.

It is also highly unlikely that Rycadinho will accept to release his star without having a suitable replacement ready. It will therefore be interesting to see how this saga will end as we are just about to enter this years transfer season. Something is 100 percent sure though... Expect fireworks!

fenian_1234
Café de Colombia have distanced themselves from speculation linking them to José Serpa. Manager fenian was fulsome in his praise for one of the all time great Colombians but realistic in terms of the probabitily of signing Serpa. He told reporters:

"We are big admirers of José and he is one of the best Colombian riders out there, but we just cannot compete with the salary that Pirelli are prepared to pay him. We baulked at offering Fabio Duarte half of José's salary, so it is very unlikely we will be bringing José back to Colombia this season."

Angry Rycadinho ask Serpa to forget about leaving Pirelli - Alfa

A short statement from Pirelli - Alfa Romeo's manager Rycadinho has declared Serpa's latest wishes "nonsense" and he refuses to let his star leave at any cost.

"José has a huge role to play for us since we will need a experienced rider to give us the needed results not to mention that he will play a important part in our new approach. José has the quality both as a rider and "surprise" also as human to be a good role model for youngsters. That's why I will once and for all say that he will not be on any team next season since it's my own wish that he stays for now."

There has been no further comment from Rycadinho nor have we heard anything from Serpa though it seems highly unlikely that the colombian will be granted his transfer wish.

Special press conference about latest transfer moves

Il Grande Rycadinho: All right thank you first of all for being part of this conference despite it's sudden arrival, but we have a few but interesting things we need to clarify mainly to stop all those silly rumours that has been circulating in the media for a couple of days now.

Female journalist: The Serpa case has almost turned out to a saga, you said for only a few days ago that he wouldn't leave Pirelli - Alfa Romeo despite his wish to continue his carrier in the Protour, is this still the case?

Il Grande Rycadinho: You look very good today Kathy but eehmm, "Looks rather embarresed".. Festina Conec came with a very fine offer so we have decided to parts ways with senior Serpa....

...The few people who have met up are all looking rather surprised before Rycadinho continues...

It wasn't that hard a decision though but I can see it makes me look quite stupid now. There is more than money in this deal and we can proudly announce that Carlos Castaño, last years big surprise in the Giro will join us for free since he was part of the deal with José. We are very pleased to have such a experienced rider within our ranks and at the same time will we wish José the best luck with Festina. This meeting is over...

Pirelli - Alfa Romeo, a team in crisis?

Apparently has things not gone as planned for Rycadinho ever since he decided to sell Serpa and bring another experienced rider in his place, the Spaniard Castaño. In one of the so far most dramatic bidding wars did Pirelli - Alfa Romeo see one of their top targets for this year Domonico Pozzovivo be sold from Cerne to another CT rival in Vespa, only the last few details are needed here for this transfer to be concluded.

Though the loss of Pozzovivo was significant then Rycadinho still felt comfortable since he believed Nicholas Roche was almost as good a Pirelli - Alfa Romeo rider, or so he thought. Sporting-Nonsense has declared that the new found protour team Pendleton's Twicer will have a chance to hijack the move and open a new bidding round on Roche, where only them and Pirelli - Alfa Romeo can participate.

It remains to see if Pendleton will indeed use the possibility to give it a go on Roche, though it's very likely to happen. The latest thing we have heard from the Italian team is that they will without any doubt do their utmost to secure Roche, a rider that is held in high regard in Rycadinhos eyes.

Lastly is it expected that the experienced Italian rider Stefano Boggia will be the first new rider to be presented later this day where we expect Rycadinho will also comment on the lost case of Pozzovivo and of course the latest development on Roche.

Transfer update from Pirelli - Alfa Romeo

So here we are, after a few days of intense negotiating can I finally give a glimpse of what our sponsors and not at least the fans can expect to see from Pirelli - Alfa Romeo in the upcoming season.

I will first of all confirm that we indeed have managed to sign 5 new riders but first of all would I like to comment on the last day on the market. We have indeed been looking very hard for replacement for our former captain José Serpa and it's true that Pozzovivo was a man we wanted. Though our fantastic sponsors gave us the fundings to make a serious go for the Italian, did we decide to pull out of the transfer since we felt that it would be wrong to overbid Vespa's final bid on Pozzovivo in a financial view. We have after that been in touch with several riders both on or off a contract, but after some very tough final hours can I present you the new Captain on the team... This man needs no introduction but Nicolas Roche, is a rider I've been admiring for a long time and he will for sure be able to take over from José!

www.tathamfells.me.uk/tf/images/tourofbritain1.jpg
The Irish allrounder will be a protagonist for Pirelli - Alfa Romeo

Nicolas is not the only rider who is new on the team, and I can with huge satisfaction give you the names of 2 young Italian youngsters, who all have what it takes to become a important part of the team. The signings of,Salvatore Puccio and Fabio Aru proves that we at Pirelli - Alfa Romeo really intends to have a younger team compared to last year. The last two of them are Italians, and they were not easy to get though I'm satisfied that they chose our offers instead of the many approaches elsewhere. Stefano Boggia has by a mistake been compared to a guy who was many years younger, though he will bring us wealth of experience.

We have made a great step today, though not everything is all smiles and we will also wave goodbye to two important figures on the team. James Lewis Perry will leave the team for ANFreeman's new project, while Ryder Hesjedal have decided to join Team Rothaus - Aegon since he felt that Roturn could offer him more chances as a leader than us. We wish them good luck in the future, and we are thankful for their contribution to the team.

farm3.static.flickr.com/2006/2539532542_c8e4d349a1.jpg
Former Canadian champion Hesjedal is on his way out of the Italian team

Our final signing is a continuation of the great relationship we have with protour team Wikipedia. Nick Kinney will once again be riding for us, though with new team mates. He made a very good impression last year and he is clearly looking stronger already now, so we expect him to give a good contribution before returning "home" to Dave and co. again.

We have so far 18 riders under contract with the team and that's why the transfer season isn't over for Pirelli - Alfa Romeo. Therefore will we not release any information before we either have a new rider(s) to present or something extraordinary happens.

Pirelli - Alfa Romeo declaring Belgian stage racer Van den Broeck top target

The Italian outfit is desperate to close the negotiations after they saw them reopened in the very last hour due to a bid from a top protour team. Van den Broeck is not the Italian leader most fans would like to see lead the pro continental team, but the manager feels assured that Van den Broeck has enough quality to make people forget about José Serpa.

On another note is it expected that the two new youngsters on the team Salvatore Puccio and Fabio Aru have both been loaned out to get experience elsewhere. There are also a believe that Pirelli - Alfa Romeo has managed to loan yet another Wikipedia rider out, though we don't yet have a name.

rycadinho
Transfer update from Pirelli - Alfa Romeo II

We have once again made ourself very visible in the market and even though I had hoped to finalise the team tomorrow, has the schedule been pushed a day further ahead due to reasons that has indeed been happening and not just media speculation.

First of all would I like to confess that we were very close to finalise a deal with Jurgen Van den Broeck but he declined it in the last hour and therefore have we decided to sit down and continue the negotiations with him.

More importantly is the fact that I can present 5 new riders, were one of them is on loan and yes it's another Wikipedia rider we have managed to make a deal with. Just like Nick Kinney will Matthew Busche be a valuable member of our bid to do well in the hilly classics. He has always been strong on the smaller climbs and therefore were we not hesitating a second, when Dave called us and proposed us yet another deal with Wikipedia.

Next up is 4 new domestiques primary for the mountains. Where we in Fredy Montaña and Andrés Miguel Díaz Corrales, or just Corrales, have got ourself two really experienced Colombians, then Andres Saldarriaga is a rider I see as a steal. He came for free, is only 24 years old and is going to be a really important team member, when helping the likes of Castaño, Roche and Mr. x in the mountains.

Finally have I also been in talks with Carlos, who felt it would do him well to have a Spaniard on the team and we decided to grant him that wish.
Egoitz Murgoitio is a good climber and he will be Carlos right hand during this season.

That's it for now and while we are getting closer and closer to finalise the roster for the upcoming season, then are we still looking to the last pierce to complete the team. More news can be expected tomorrow.

Saldarriaga always seemed to do fairly well for SL Benfica last year - and its always good to have cheap climber domestiques!

I can hope he will step up this year and be even better, since I hope he will feel good in another team that focus mainly on mountainous stage races.

- Defiantly and it's better when they aren't complete rubbish and even have a few years in them left.

Transfer update from Pirelli - Alfa Romeo III

We are extremely close to complete the roster for the upcoming season and therefore is it the perfect time to introduce yet two new riders who will strengthen one certain department of the team!

First up is Italian sprinter Daniele Di Nucci who on his best days can surprise the fastest men in the peloton and hopefully secure the team some good points throughout the season. We have also managed to make a deal with Sony Ericson by buying the full ownership of yet another sprinter though this guy is not from Italy! Assan Bazajev will have a free role for the team and while he might not be able to out sprint people like Napolitano or Bennati, then he is able to survive hills that might be too hard for many other rivals he has in the sprints. This makes him very valuable and I believe he can live with the big expectations we have for him.

As mentioned before are we really close to put the pen on the last contract, though we are not yet ready to announce our final move(s) on the market yet. Stay tuned.

Press Conference: Van Den Broeck to be presented!

Rycadinho: Well good afternoon everyone, I'm really eager to present a big big name in the cycling world who will ride for Pirelli - Alfa Romeo for at least one season. I would like to present to you the best Belgian stage racer out there Senior. Jurgen Van Den Broeck!

"Lots of clapping from the audience"

Rycadinho: I see Jurgen as the perfect signing, since he is unlike many other stage racers in the continental tour both a good climber but also a strong timetrialist! We are really happy to have Jurgen on the team and you can now ask question to him.

Journalist: So Jurgen, you decided to go to a Italian team without any Belgian riders... will you feel as an outsider and perhaps regret you put the pen on Pirelli - Alfa Romeo's offer and not.. let's say Team Bpost?

VDB: Well as far I'm concerned is Rycadinho known for being good to talk with his riders and I've been in touch with a couple of lads who have told me that Pirelli - Alfa Romeo is a really good place to be. It's true that Bpost came with a offer, but I didn't feel they wanted me so much as Pirelli - Alfa Romeo and therefore am I really happy to be here today!

Journalist: Some would say that you lack something to compete with the very best climbers in the world, do you agree?

VDB: Me and my manager believe I got what it takes.. is that a good enough answer for you?

Journalist: You are according to rumours the most expensive rider on the team, does that put extra much pressure on your shoulders?

VDB: No, I know what I'm capable of and if the manager was ready to offer me a good contract then it must be because I'm good..right?

Rycadinho: We wanted Jurgen and he wanted us.. there is time for one final question.. yes you in the front?

Journalist: Can we expect Pirelli - Alfa Romeo to make an application for a GrandTour wild card with riders like Van den Broeck, Roche and Castaño on the team?

Rycadinho: Well we would love to be a part of next year Giro d'Italia, though it all depends on how much money we have left when the transfer season is over. Well guess that's it for now, thank you for joining us today especially since we are as good as done on the market now.
