Garmin - End of 3rd Season - Continue in PCM11
roturn
After reading lots of stories I want to give it a try and write also about my Garmin career.

Database: A.S.O. with little individual changes
Patch: 1.0.4.1
Difficulty : Extreme (in 2012 season), hard (in 2011 season)

I`ll start in 2011 after a very successful season for me in 2010.

At first I give you a short summary of the year 2010.

Giro d`Italia
img227.imageshack.us/img227/7498/giro2010.png
Cunego and Ricco were in their own world. 7 and 5 min to the 3rd.
There after a great fight Vandevelde reached the podium a few secs in front of Nibali and Scarponi. Farrar with just one stage win took the sprinter jersey.

Tour de France
img143.imageshack.us/img143/5383/letour2010.png
Menchov totally dominated here. He didn`t won many stages but never lost contact to the first group and won the ITT clearly. A.Schleck felt back from 2nd to 6th in the final ITT.
Unfortunately I had no chance for a top10 here and had to live with Hesjedal`s 19th.
Therefore Danielson won the KoM jersey.

Vuelta Espana
img267.imageshack.us/img267/2352/vuelta2010.png
Spanish domination. First 7 all for them. Contador with just one day in red after a great win in the final ITT.
Hesjedal`s 8th place finished a great season for him with top10 in all big hilly classics and MSR. Hushovd with a great shape and 6 stage wins Wink

Classics
img409.imageshack.us/img409/8396/classics2010.png
Cancellara with a triple. Simoni very surprising. He was the last one out of a big break and survived with 1 min ahead.

World Championships

ITT
resources0.news.com.au/images/2010/05/01/1225860/932020-richie-porte.jpg
Surprisingly no Cancellara on the start. So his team-mate Richie Porte won. Contador and Martin had to be happy with the podium.

Road
www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/imageBank/f/frank-schleck-1.jpg
After a good attack 20km to the finish the next rainbow jersey for Saxobank. Wegmann`s attack was little to late, so he came in 2nd. Samuel Sanchez won the sprint of the 30 men group.

Most important transfers 2010/2011:

AG2R -> Menchov
Garmin -> LL Sanchez, Rojas Gil, Boom
Lampre -> Basso, Ballan, Napolitano
Liquigas -> Gilbert, Nuyens
Omega -> Petacchi
Rabobank -> Leukemanns, Rogers
Katusha -> Evans, Sastre
The Shack -> Hushovd (after Vacansoleil had no PT license)

Just as a funny addition.
Tirreno winner and 2nd at the Giro Riccardo Ricco left Ceramica for joining Skil-Shimano Wink

Good luck. Smile

Christer
Schleck won WC, Wegmann second and Samu Sanchez third?

Edit: Apart from a little unclear WC-winner, I find this story interesting for now. Good start. Smile

Team presentation 2011

Leaders

img683.imageshack.us/img683/9927/hesjedal.png
Hesjedal will be our leader in the Ardennes and for the Tour. After a disappointing 19th last year he hopes for a top 10 in 2011. Also he dreams of a big win this year in one of the classics after 5th in MSR, 10th LBL, 4th AGR, 4th Lombardia and 8th Fleche,
Also he had the honor to be in the choice of the rider of the year. But except of 5pts from an Canadian newspaper he had no chance against the others.

img225.imageshack.us/img225/55/farrar.png
Tyler Farrar was the most successful rider on the amount of wins in 2010. But Cavendish would probably say "I don`t give a shit on funfair races".
After a good February with 6 stage wins in Oman and Qatar and 5 wins plus overall in the Tour of Britain he had bigger victories at the Giro d`Italia with 1 stage win and the sprinter jersey. HE was also successful in Paris-Tours and the Scheldeprijs. Unfortunately he looked quite tired in the Tour.
But this year he don`t participate in the Giro and will be in a great shape in France.

Cobbles:

img840.imageshack.us/img840/4898/maaskant.png
After a 2nd in RVV and Gent Wevelgem Maaskant want`s his first win in a big race this year.
img833.imageshack.us/img833/9258/vansummeren.png
Vansummeren was the lucky guy in Gent-Wevelgem where we had a great double.
img543.imageshack.us/img543/2839/boomsu.png
Boom will have some freedom in most races, but in the cobbled classics he will help. Last year Maaskant and Vansummeren were quite alone after the half of the race Wink
We also hope for some breakaway and ITT victories with all 3 of them.

Smaller races:

img137.imageshack.us/img137/8441/sanchezgil.png
With Luis Leon Sanchez we have a great rider for 1 week races. Last year he won Paris Nizza and this is one of his goals for this year, too.
He will also lead our team in the Vuelta for another Top10 result there.
img535.imageshack.us/img535/2605/martinme.png
He showed last year that you can count on him when the mountains begin.
He was Vandevelde`s biggest help to reach the podium in the Grio and had also some great results in the Criterium International (4th), Pologne Tour (2nd), Austrian Tour (2nd).
After a 20th in GC Giro as a helper he will try his luck in this year`s version with more freedom to get a good result again and some stage wins.

U23:

img714.imageshack.us/img714/9939/dao.png
With Baris Dao from Denmark we have a real jewel in our team. He was 2nd in U23 last year and will become one of the best sprinters in the next years. So we build him up slowly and give him the chance to improve best.

roturn
Thanks.
@Christer
I rode Germany, so Wegmann`s result might be strange.
Schleck had just good luck with his attack. And Sanchez won the uphill sprint against Hushovd. Last one seemed to be quite tired after all the hills.

kirosha
where is vande velde?

roturn
He transferred to Ceramica Flamina.
He lost lots of stats during the season. He started the Giro with 77mo and finished it with 76. In the end of the season he had 74mo, 75hi, 76itt, so I couldn`t use him very much in the knowledge that he will become more weaker during the season.
So I was quite happy that he reached the podium with 76 in the last 3 mountain stages.

roturn
Our race schedule in January is very simple.
img833.imageshack.us/img833/6387/januar.png

With 5 Australians in our Squad we have very good chances in the championships this year.
In the ITT championship especially Jack Bobridge and Cameron Meyer, which improved a lot in last season, have good chances for a good result.
In the roadrace there is also Trent Lowe, but normally there is a successful break.

For the Santos Tour Down Under Robert Hunter and Johan Vansummeren will join up with them to fight for stage wins and the overall.

Australian Championship TT

img33.imageshack.us/img33/1774/profilgq.png

Favourites: Porte, Rogers, Meyer, Bobridge, Evans
But it`s more a question of fitness than skill in that early days of the year.

img137.imageshack.us/img137/4396/meyer.png
Cameron Meyer starts with a quite good shape and he wants to repeat his victory from last year.

img229.imageshack.us/img229/9071/evansf.png
Cadel Evans with his new Katusha jersey.

img524.imageshack.us/img524/8924/rogersc.png
Also Rogers for his new Rabobank team. But obviously he is totally out of shape.

img440.imageshack.us/img440/8382/porte.png
He was probably the biggest surprise last year. After a 10th in the Vuelta he won the ITT World Championship and can wear the rainbow jersey for one year now. He is just 10 sec behind Meyer at the first checkpoint.

img685.imageshack.us/img685/2974/podium.png
But he felt back during the stage and so Garmin can celebrate a double victory with Cameron Meyer repeating his last year coup.

Result

1 Cameron Meyer Garmin - Transitions 55'34
2 Jack Bobridge Garmin - Transitions + 20

3 Adam Hansen Team HTC - Columbia + 45
4 Richard Porte Team Saxo Bank + 46
5 Brett Lancaster Cervélo Test Team + 1'00
6 Luke Roberts Drapac Porsche Cycling + 1'02
7 Rory Sutherland UnitedHealthcare + 1'09
8 Cadel Evans Team Katusha + 1'15
9 Trent Lowe Garmin - Transitions + 1'26
10 Matthew Goss Team HTC - Columbia + 1'30

Australian Road Championship

img718.imageshack.us/img718/8559/profiluj.png

Favourites: Gerrans, Haussler, Evans
But as we have seen in the ITT, Evans seems to be out of shape.

img87.imageshack.us/img87/8776/1start.png
46 riders waiting for the start. Biggest contingent Drapac Porsche with the maximum of 9 riders. Then HTC-Columbia with 7 riders and Garmin with 5 riders.
img149.imageshack.us/img149/6104/84643847.png
After about one lap Graeme Brown attacks and Cameron Meyer follows him. Lowe and Bobridge will wait in the pack.

img155.imageshack.us/img155/1903/62498086.png
The first attack is also the break of the day. G.Brown, C.Meyer, C.Wurf, T.Roe and R.Pollock. The group works pretty well, so that they create a 12min gap and it`s obvious that they will have success.

img684.imageshack.us/img684/8514/17672375.png
On the second last descent C.Wurf attacks and it looks like he could win.

img156.imageshack.us/img156/5979/95051517.png
Cameron Meyer attacks on the flat part and brings the whole group together.

img692.imageshack.us/img692/4209/81305269.png
Because Brown is by far the best sprinter in this group and we are half way of the climb, C.Meyer sets a very high pace and creates together with C.Wurf a gap to G.Brown.

img138.imageshack.us/img138/9036/72624627.png
Although C.Meyer was in first position he also wins the road race and can now wear a national jersey in every race. C.Wurf was out of power in the end and wasn`t able to sprint.

img269.imageshack.us/img269/7044/23311239.png
The group with most favourites attacked out of the pack, but there the winner was already sure. Bobridge and Lowe can also stay in this group.

Result

1 Cameron Meyer Garmin - Transitions 5h21`19``
2 Cameron Wurf Androni Giocattoli +0``
3 Graeme Brown Rabobank +0``
4 Rhys Pollock Drapac Porsche +1`13``
5 Timothy Roe Trek Livestrong +1`13``
6 Matthew Goss HTC-Columbia +9`59``
7 Matthew Lloyd Omega-Lotto +9`59``

9 Simon Gerrans ISD-Neri +9`59``
10 Jack Bobridge Garmin - Transitions +9`59``
11 Trent Lowe Garmin - Transitions +9`59``

But to be honest. Next races won`t be that easy Wink

The first real race this year is also a Pro Tour race. Normally it`s a race for sprinters. But there will be attacks on the Willunga Hill on day 5 for sure.
It`s also a question of shape. Most sprinters have their first peak in March for Milano San Remo and later in the GT`s.

Results in 2010:

1. A. Vinokourov (Astana)
2. K. Kroon (BMC)
3. S. Chavanel (Quickstep)

S: M. Cavendish (HTC-Columbia)
M: J. Bobridge (Garmin)
U25: R. Kreuziger (Liquigas)

Team presentation:
img413.imageshack.us/img413/4772/teamh.png
Robert Hunter will be our sprinter. He has a good shape and got the nod over Farrar to participate in Down Under.
Vansummeren will try to get the first group on day 5 when the Willunga Hill must be riden twice. But he also has to help Hunter in the Sprints. His peak will be in March/April in the cobbled classics.
J. Bobridge will try to get the mountain jersey the second time in a row.

Favourites:
There are lots of big names here this year. But there are no real puncheur like Vinokourov participating in 2011. So we might see a sprinter winning again this year. There especially Boasson Hagen, Freire, Breschel, Haussler and Hushovd might have the best chances, at least in the theory. I think that we will see some more unknown riders in front with a better shape.

Tour Down Under Stage 1
Clare - Tanunda

img685.imageshack.us/img685/933/78195722.png

This stage should be won by a sprinter. So the top favorites are Cavendish, Hushovd and Bennati. There is just one real difficulty with the "Menglers Hill Road" 24km before the finish. But still not hard enough to bring a sprinter into problems.

img535.imageshack.us/img535/4885/pcm0002y.png
Start in Clare.

img838.imageshack.us/img838/6719/pcm0003i.png
After a few kilometres Guesdon attacks and Selvaggi and Henderson are hanging on his wheel. Eichler, Coyot and Veelers will reach this group later and build todays group.

img808.imageshack.us/img808/6070/pcm0004m.png
Meanwhile our Team stays in the pack. New Aussi champ Meyer rides next to last years champ Bobridge.

img145.imageshack.us/img145/8867/pcm0007e.png
On "Menglers Hill Road" it looks like a mass sprint, but nevertheless Guesdon will wear the mountain jersey tomorrow ahead of Eichler and Veelers.

img830.imageshack.us/img830/1405/pcm0008l.png
11km and still 1`33´´. Could the pack make a mistake today? Coyot smells a rat and gives it a try. Nobody can follow his attack.

img177.imageshack.us/img177/7531/pcm0009.png
A very close decision today. Coyot still in front and just 2km to go. Behind him his old companions. But the pack is coming closer and closer.

img834.imageshack.us/img834/4627/pcm0010g.png
Great coup. The sprinter teams really failed and so Selvaggi wins out of the breakaway very close in front of McEwen and Hunter. Nobody had him on his list this morning. Good Day for Astana with Davis on 4th. Hunter can be happy with the podium. Obviously most sprinters don`t have a good shape that early.

Result

1 M. Selvaggi Astana
2. R. McEwen Team Katusha s.t.
3. R.Hunter Garmin - Transitions s.t.
4. A. Davis Astana s.t.
5. A. Petacchi Omega Lotto s.t.
6. M. Cavendish HTC-Columbia s.t.
7. D. Napolitano Lampre s.t.
8. JJ Haedo Team Saxobank s.t.
9. G. Brown Rabobank s.t.
10. T.Veelers Skil-Shimano s.t.

So still 2 of the break in the top 10.
