4. January - 13. January
We make a pre-saison-camp in Santa Barbara, California, to prepare us for a long season.
6. January
The australien cycling championships 2010, this year in Buninyong! Today, there's the ITT-Event.
The big favourites are Cadel Evans (BMC), Michael Rogers (HighRoad) and Richie Porte (Saxo Bank).
Buninyong - Buninyong ITT, 42,3 km:
1. Cadel Evans 54'53
2. Richie Porte +3"
3. Jack Bobridge +23"
4. Michael Rogers +24"
5. Adam Hansen +35"
No surprise, Cadel was one of the favourites. Next to his Worldchampionship-Jersey, in TTs he can wear the Australien-Jersey!
7. January
Today signed our first secondery sponsor. I'm a bit surprised, but we could convince COCA COLA to sponsor us.
36.000 € + Top 10 Bonus World ITT
10. January
The second Event of the australien championships 2010, the road race in Buninyong over 175 km. Its a hilly circuit, so the big favourites are (again) Cadel Evans (BMC) and Simon Gerrans (Sky). Also Matthew Lloyd (Omega Pharma), Heinrich Haussler (Cervelo), Michael Rogers (HighRoad) and Richie Porte (Saxo Bank) have chances.
Buninyong - Buninyong, 175,2 km:
1. Allan Davis 4h29'22"
2. Heinrich Haussler +0"
3. Matthew Wilson +21"
4. Adam Hansen +21"
5. Simon Gerrans +21"
10. Cadel Evans +4'59"
Its not the biggest surprise, but I hadnt thought that Davis could win on an hilly
circuit like here. In the 1on1 Sprint he beat Heinrich Haussler.
13. January
We have our other sponsors. We are proud that we could convince Ford and Nike to "work" with us.
FORD
29.600 € + Sprint Jersey Vuelta
NIKE
30.500 € + Top 10 Milano-San Remo
Sorry, I have soccer training now. Afterwards, I will post the first stage of the TDU.
Edited by janne_837 on 14-09-2010 14:36
very interesting in objectives from the sponsors. I presume that it will be Steegmans for the Milano-San Remo and Vuelta objectives and Leipheimer for the Worlds ITT?
@the_hoyle
Yep, Steegmans for the Vuelta and the Primavera, Leipheimer World-ITT.
19. January Tour Down Under
Today, the cycling-year 2010 begin.
The Tour Down Under is a cycling race in Adelaide, South Australia and surrounding area. The race starts on the third Tuesday of January each year and attracts riders from across Australia and the world. In 2005, the Tour Down Under was promoted by the Union Cycliste Internationale to the international rating of 2.HC, the largest and highest ranking outside Europe. In 2008 the Tour Down Under became the first UCI ProTour event outside Europe, and the following year it became the inaugural event of the UCI World Ranking calendar. (from wikipedia.com)
Here the startlist 2010
Saxo Bank
1. A.Schleck
2. B.Cooke
3. K.Klostergaard
4. M.Mørkøv
5. S.O'Grady
6. R.Porte
7. A.Rasmussen
The Shack: Leader will be Lance, who can try to gain time in Stage 3 and 5. With our best Sprinttrain, Rosseler-Vaitkus-Steegmans (which will be started in the Vuelta, too), we want try to win 1-2 stages and win the sprint jersey. Popovych is our second leader and has not to help Armstrong. Irizar and McCartney are helpers, protect Lance/Gert and get water bottles.
The opposition
In the GC, our strongest competitors are Andy Schleck, Oscar Freire and Edvald Boasson-Hagen. Also strong are Sylvain Chavanel, José Joaquin Rojas, Vladimir Karpets and last but not least the australian champion and defending champion, Allan Davis.
In the Sprints, I count on: Alessandro Petacchi, Oscar Freire, Filippo Pozatto, Gerald Ciolek, Danilo Napolitano, Robert Hunter and Yauheni Hutarovich.
Stage 1: Clare - Tanunda, 141,3 km
The first stage will probably end in a mass sprint. The last hill isn't too easy, but no problem for the sprinters.
Team mission: - Protecting Lance and Popo.
- Leading the peleton until the first intersprint which should be won by Gert.
- Our first win 2010
Finaly, our season starts!
Our first kilometers: Leading the peloton, nobody may escape, but there were many attackers.
5 kilometers to the intermediate sprint and no breakaway. Nice work!
Gert wins the Intermediate Sprint in front of Napolitano and Chicchi.
After the Sprint, we relax a bit and let others lead. But now, there were no one who try to get away
The australian Champ in his new jersey: Allan Davis!
The Mountain-Points wins Veikkanen; Finetto, Posthuma, Tjallingii und Ciolek get some, too.
5 Kilometers, and the peloton leads in the race. Masssprint!
The sprint was a bit crazy: With 3km to go, I started the sprint, but the other let us sprint and ignore us. Don't know why, but as the other starts I had already a wide gap.
Flame Rouge! But it was an exicting sprint, Gert and Thomas was gone, but it was an interesting fight for Place 3.
Steegmans and Vaitkus enjoy their Double!
The finish!
The Result:
1.) Gert Steegmans (The Shack) 3h27'21
2.) Tomas Vaitkus (The Shack) s.t.[/b]
3.) Danilo Napolitano (Katusha) s.t.
4.) Alex Rasmussen (Saxo Bank) s.t.
5.) Francesco Chicchi (Liquigas) s.t.
6.) Yauheni Hutarovich (FDJ) s.t.
7.) Mauro Finetto (Liquigas) s.t.
8.) Tiziano Dall'Antonio (Liquigas) s.t.
9.) Stijn Vandenbergh (Katusha) s.t.
10.) Allan Davis (Astana) s.t.
Sprint:
1.) Gert Steegmans (The Shack) 14
2.) Danilo Napolitano (Katusha) 8
3.) Tom Leezer (Rabobank) 6
3.) Tomas Vaitkus (The Shack) 6

don´t expect AI will make you any troubles in early season when most of riders are out of shape (they MOST LIKELY don´t use training camps) in normal difficulty
@Beagle
Thanks, I give my best and nice that an well-known storymaker comments my story
@the hoyle
Thanks, I dont know the KI just ignores me What I've done? I play on normal, I think I'm not too skilled (maybe I'm good in Sprints, but not in the Mountains), now the Ki is justn't in form I think
20. January Stage 2: Gawler - Hahndorf, 133,5 km
A bit easier than the first stage. If not a breakaway, the sprinters will decide this stage.
Team mission:
- Protecting Lance and Popo
- Take the first intermediate sprint with Steegmans
- Protect the leader jersey and take the second stage win
Favourites according to PCM: Oscar Freire, Alessandro Petacchi, Allan Davis. My secret tip: Alex Rasmussen, 4th - stage 1.
Depart in Gawler.
The picture looks a bit... Whatever! Steegmans take it in front of Napolitano and Davis.
After the Sprint, 5 drivers attack and build the first breakaway in the TDU: Chris Burton (BMC), Vicente Reynès (HighRoad), Blel Kadri (AG2R), Yoann Offredo (FDJ) and Matteo Tosatto (Quickstep). 10 km later, Stijn Vandenbergh (Katusha) attacks and reaches the 5 others.
RadioShack, Rabobank and Lampre work to reach the breakaway.
The Shack in action
The single mountain classification in this stage wins Blel Kadri in front of Burton, Offredo, Tosatto and Urtasun.
The second intermediated sprint takes Blel Kadri (while attacking^^) ahead of Tosatto and Vandenbergh. But the peloton isn't far away.
10 km to go. Urtasun and Reynès tried one last time to get away, but they hadn't a chance.
3 km to go. The sprint begins, Tomas und Gert well positioned by Sebastien.
1,5 km to go. I don't understand it. While Vaitkus and Steegmans make an perfect sprint, the others ignored us another time. Even Armstrong and Popovych, which chases the breakaway, are in front.
One kilometer to go. Steegmans makes an amazing sprint and is the winner, while Vaitkus loses Speed After analysing the situation, Lance and Popo sprints too.
Gert takes the second stage, but no double today!
The result:
1.) Gert Steegmans (The Shack) 3h15'22"
2.) Yauheni Hutarovich (FDJ) s.t.
3.) Allan Davis (Astana) s.t.
4.) Danilo Napolitano (Katusha) s.t.
5.) Alex Rasmussen (SaxoBank) s.t.
6.) Tomas Vaitkus (The Shack) s.t.
7.) Francesco Chicchi (Liquigas) s.t.
8.) Lance Armstrong (The Shack) s.t.
9.) Yaroslav Popovych (The Shack) s.t.
10.) Lloyd Mondory (AG2r) s.t.
GC:
1.) Gert Steegmans (The Shack) 6h43'17"
2.) Danilo Napolitano (Katusha) +18"
3.) Tomas Vaitkus (The Shack) +20"
4.) Yauheni Hutarovich (FDJ) s.t.
5.) Allan Davis (Astana) +21"
Points:
1.) Gert Steegmans (The Shack) 28
2.) Danilo Napolitano (Katusha) 12
3.) Vaitkus, Leezer, Hutarovich, Davis, Kadri 6
20. January
Andy Schleck explaind in the magazin "Cycling bloc" that he likes the Tour de France, but don't want race "Le Tour" this year
21. January
I offer Klöden, Leipheimer, Brajkovic, Popovych and Steegmans new contracts.
Stage 3: Unley - Stirling, 132,4 km
That will be an interesting stage. The stage isn't really hard, but the end circuit in Stirling will be tiring for the sprinters, so the end will be something for sprinters with a high hill stat.
Team mission:
- Hold Leader jersey
- Take the first intermediate sprint.
- Protect Lance and Popo
Favourites according to PCM: Andy Schleck, Robert Gesink, Juan José Cobo. My secret tip: I think Oscar Freire has a nice chance to win, 'cause he has a nice hill stat and is one of the best sprinters in the world.
Depart in Unley.
Just as usual, many attackers, but our goal, to take the first sprint, let us work against them.
We have made it to the sprint, but amid loud applause Allan Davis takes it before Gert und Matteo Tosatto.
At Wickhams Hill Road a few rider attacks, but they don't get away. At the last 400 m, David Millar and Jean-Christophe Peraud accelerates and takes most of the points. The other points go to Gorka Izagirre, Jason McCartney (lol, didn't make anything) and José Luis Arrieta.
Relaxing a bit and enjoying the nice australian countryside.
2 km to the next Intermediate Sprint and many sprinters who want points.
Radioshack takes the Double! Unfortunately only at the intermediate sprint
The peloton is now at the finish, one round to pass.
8 km to go, and no attack. All 154 drivers are in the peloton.
The peloton at the 5km-Checkpoint. No attack nor a tired driver. The tempo was not high.
2 Kilometers. The peloton prepares for the sprint.
Here we go! At the flame rouge, Arvesen in front, Andy Schleck, David Millar, Lars Boom, Oscar Freire, Robert Gesink and - of course - Lance Armstrong, at the wheel of Yaroslav Popovych.
700m to go. Arvesen keeps up in front, but A.Schleck chases him and Armstrong startet to make his move. Can he reach them?
No. Kurt-Asle Arvesen hold the speed and takes the first victory for the young britsh team called "Sky"!
Also interesting: The last, Roger Hammond (Cérvelo) cames in with the same time like Arvesen.
The result:
1.) Kurt-Asle Arvesen (Sky) 3h41'02"
2.) Andy Schleck (Saxo Bank) s.t.
3.) Lance Armstrong (The Shack) s.t.
4.) David Millar (Garmin) s.t.
5.) Yaroslav Popovych (The Shack) s.t.
6.) Lars Boom (Rabobank) s.t.
7.) Óscar Freire (Rabobank) s.t.
8.) Filippo Pozatto (Katusha) s.t.
9.) Anthony Geslin (FDJ) s.t.
10.) Tony Martin (HighRoad) s.t.
GC:
1.) Gert Steegmans (The Shack) 10h23'14"
2.) Kurt-Asle Arvesen (Sky) +21"
3.) Tomas Vaitkus (The Shack) +23"
3.) Allan Davis (Astana) s.t.
3.) Danilo Napolitano (Katusha) s.t.
6.) Andy Schleck (SaxoBank) +25"
6.) Yauheni Hutarovich (FDJ) s.t.
8.) Lance Armstrong (The Shack) +27"
8.) Tom Leezer (Rabobank) s.t.
10.) Matteo Tosatto (QuickStep) +28"
10.) Blel Kadri (AG2R) s.t.
Points:
1.) Gert Steegmans (The Shack) 38
2.) Danilo Napolitano (Katusha) 12
2.) Allan Davis (Astana) 12
4.) Tomas Vaitkus (The Shack) 10
5.) Tom Leezer (Rabobank) 8
5.) Yauheni Hutarovich (FDJ) 8
@the_hoyle
Thats bad. Pity! I would suggest to take RadioShack but now I have a story with them, so take Livestrong-U23 (just a joke).
I would suggest Cérvelo, because they have a few talents, and its a challenge to try winning the tour with Sastre or win against Cavendish
Edited by janne_837 on 16-09-2010 16:37
The easiest stage in the whole Tour Down Under. A grub for the sprinters.
Team mission:
- Hold Leader Jersey
- Stage Win Nr.3
- Protect Lance and Popo
Favourites according to PCM: Òscar Freire, Alessandro Petacchi, Allan Davis My hint: Yauheni Hutarovich and Alex Rasmussen drove an nice TDU, they'll be the hardest opponents.
SORRY! MC PCM CRASHED AND I HAVENT ANY PHOTOS!
Start - Mountain Classification
We controlled the peleton, but I told my drivers not relay to hard (50% Short relay). Despite our low speed, no breakaway came away, they were to weak. One kilometer before the Mountain Checkpoint, Pablo Urtasun attacks and get the points (and the mountain jersey) ahead of Robert Hunter (who attacks, too), Markel Irizar, Lance and Yaroslav.
Mountain - Sprint 1
We also controlled the peloton, but with 70 km to go, Bert Grabsch makes an strong attack and came away. He's winning the points. 1'30" later, Steegmans gates 4, Yauheni Hutarovich 2 points.
Sprint 1 - Sprint 2
The distance between that points wasn't long maybe 25km, so I haven't much to tell. Grabsch, now with 2'00' in front wins 6, Danilo Napolitano and Tom Leezer utilize our present (Steegmans saves power for the finish)
The Final:
15 km to go, Grabsch's break away is over. Our sprint preparation works ok, but Vaitkus and Steegmans wasn't well positioned. At 2,8 km to go, I opened the sprint. Vaitkus and Steegmans were in front, but they can't get a big gap. 1,5 km to go, Wouter Weylandt get the wheel from Steegmans, who leaves the backwheel from Vaitkus. 1 km to go, Weylandt left the wheel from Steegmans and accelerate. Side by side, their sprinting to the finish. In the end, Weylandt beats Steegmans with only a few millimeter
Strong performance from the young belgian sprinter.
The result:
1.) Wouter Weylandt (QuickStep) 3h34'07"
2.) Gert Steegmans (The Shack) s.t.
3.) Tomas Vaitkus (The Shack) s.t.
4.) Alex Rasmussen (Saxo Bank) s.t.
5.) Yauheni Hutarovich (FDJ) s.t.
6.) Francesco Chicchi (Liquigas) s.t.
7.) José Joaquin Rojas (Caisse) s.t.
8.) Yaroslav Popovych (The Shack) s.t.
9.) Alessandro Petacchi (Lampre) s.t.
10.) Mauro Finetto (Liquigas) s.t.
GC:
1.) Gert Steegmans (The Shack) 13h57'13"
2.) Tomas Vaitkus (The Shack) +27"
3.) Danilo Napolitano (Katusha) +29"
3.) Kurt-Asle Arvesen (Sky) s.t.
3.) Wouter Weylandt (QuickStep) s.t.
6.) Allan Davis (Astana) +31"
7.) Yauheni Hutarovich (FDJ) +32"
8.) Andy Schleck (SaxoBank) +33"
8.) Bert Grabsch (HighRoad) s.t.
10.) Tom Leezer (Rabobank) +34" Oh, just 29" between Steegmans and Arvesen. If the norwegian cyclist have a nice day tomorrow, Steegmans could lost his jersey
Points:
1.) Gert Steegmans (The Shack) 48
2.) Danilo Napolitano (Katusha) 16
3.) Tomas Vaitkus (The Shack) 14
4.) Allan Davis (Astana) 12
4.) Bert Grabsch (HighRoad) 12
Tomorrow:
The stage which will decide the Tour Down Under. Could Steegmans keep his leader jersey. He has already the points jersey, but the race win would be the perfect reward for the RadioShack-Domination. stage 5!
I already wrote that yesterday: This stage will decide the whole TDU.
Team mission:
- HOLD LEADER JERSEY
- take the first intermediate sprint
- controle the peleton.
Favourites according to PCM: Andy Schleck, Robert Gesink, Juan José Cobo. My hint: Filippo Pozatto could come over the willunga hills and is a strong sprinter.
Depart in Snapper Point.
As usual, we controle the peloton and let nobody escape. And it has work!
Steegmans takes 6, Vaitkus 4 and Wouter Weylandt 2 points.
Nobody want get away, but we want held the control.
Steegmans win also the second sprint ahead of Vaitkus and Weylandt.
The first crossing over the Willunga Hill. Gert has to fight, but finaly, he stayed in the pack. Bartolini takes 16, Lance 12, Lastras 8, Rojas 6 and Boasson Hagen 4 points.
The second crossing. You can't see it, but Gert with many problems. The Points: Boasson Hagen 16, Lance 12, Porte 8, Yaroslav 6 and Arvesen 4.
NO! I have already feared that, but now it's the truth. Steegmans, tired from the Willunga Hill Circuit, lost the contact to the leading group.
The 10 kilometer checkpoint, and 2 minutes between the leading group and Gert.
5 kilometer to go. No big gap, but still 1'30" between the two groupes.
1,5 Kilometer before the finish. The preparation for the sprint. Lance and Popo are there, at the wheels from Arvesen respectively Schleck.
500 meters. Yaroslav hasn't a good day, his sprint craps. But Lance was in position. Also Chavanel, Millar and Arvesen could hope for the stage win.
Sylvain Chavanel takes his first win 2010! He beats Millar, Arvesen and Armstrong, which wasn't fast enough to take the stage win.
My beloved leader jersey! It's gone! This will be the last picture there we see Steegmans with that, but he still have the sprint jersey!
The result:
1.) Sylvain Chavanel (QuickStep) 3h39'49"
2.) David Millar (Garmin) s.t.
3.) Kurt-Asle Arvesen (Sky) s.t.
4.) Andy Schleck (SaxoBank) s.t.
5.) Lance Armstrong (The Shack) s.t.
6.) Lars Boom (Rabobank) s.t.
7.) Anthony Geslin (FDJ) s.t.
8.) Filippo Pozatto (Katusha) s.t.
9.) Niki Terpstra (Milram) s.t.
10.) Jan Bakelandts (Omega Pharma) s.t.
What should I say, win 1 jersey, lost one jersey
GC:
1.) Kurt-Asle Arvesen (Sky) 17h37'27"
2.) Sylvain Chavanel (QuickStep) +4"
3.) Allan Davis (Astana) +6"
4.) Andy Schleck (SaxoBank) +8"
5.) David Millar (Garmin) s.t.
6.) Lance Armstrong (The Shack) +10"
7.) Matteo Tosatto (QuickStep) +11"

Points:
1.) Gert Steegmans (The Shack) 60
2.) Tomas Vaitkus (The Shack) 22
3.) Danilo Napolitano (Katusha) 16
4.) Kurt-Asle Arvesen (Sky) 12

4.) Jussi Veikkanen (FDJ) 16
4.) David Millar (Garmin) 16
4.) Alessandro Bertolini (Androni) 16

24. January
Janez Brajkovic, Gert Steegmans and Andreas Klöden signs new contracts which will be apply starting October 25.
Levi Leipheimer, Haimar Zubeldia and Yaroslav Popovych don't want sign any contracts now and need thinking time until July.
Adelaide - Adelaide, 90 km
The last stage of the Tour Down Under will be a Circuit in Adelaide. The only "hill", the "Montefiore", isn't a challenge, so we can bet on a mass sprint.
Team mission:
- Win the last stage with Steegmans
- Win the first intermediate sprint with Lance to get fourth in the GC
Favourites according to PCM: Òscar Freire, Alessandro Petacchi and Allan Davis. My tip: I still think that HUtarovich and Rasmussen droves a amazing TDU,, and both could get in the TOP 3.
Depart in Adelaide.
We controlled the peleton and prepared the attack for Lance.
SUCCESS! Lance came away and wins the sprint in front of Tom Leezer and Baden Cooke.
Posthuma attacks 500 m for the assessment, but Lance gets 12 and saves his mountain jersey. The other points goes to Jussi Veikkanen, Matthew Hayman and Danilo Hondo.
Petacchi 6, Ciolek 4, Napolitano 2.
No one wish to lost effort for the second checkpoint, so the peloton gets them. Erviti 16, Sulzberger 12, Gourov 8, Roberts 6, Scott Davis 4.
3 km to go. The preparation for the sprint is going on. Vaitkus and Steegmans are well positioned, thanks to Rosseler.
The last turns before the finish. Steegmans makes an amazing sprint and was the winner, but Vaitkus lost speed while Petacchi makes his move.
Steegmans enjoys his third victory at his sixth race day. Petacchi and Ciolek reaches Vaitkus, who saved a fourth place.
The result:
1.) Gert Steegmans (The Shack) 2h08'51"
2.) Alessandro Petacchi (Lampre) s.t.
3.) Gerald Ciolek (Milram) s.t.
4.) Tomas Vaitkus (The Shack) s.t.

8.) Wouter Weylandt (QuickStep) s.t.
9.) Graeme Brown (Rabobank) s.t.
10.) Mauro Finetto (Liquigas) s.t.
GC:
With his third place, Gerald Ciolek reaches the fiveth place in the GC. With a victory today, Allan Davis had might win the TDU, but he just finished as 34th. With a bit luck, Popovych finished as 10th.
Points:
As I look at the points, I was very surprised. 68 points
Mountain:
I didn't have much to do to get this jersey, but it gives just more money.
