4 days in Italy, one time - trial and two mountain finishes. Rinaldo Nocentini is defending champion but it will be hard for him to retain his title, especially since he will be most likely working for Cataldo.
Ricardo Ricco is the big favorite to win the race this year but he could lose some important time in the opening time - trial. Abal and Taaramae are the riders that the time - trial will suit, while Serpa and Alarcon will be completing the 3 big favorites for the mountains along side Ricco.
Riders to follow:
***** | Ricardo Ricco | **** | Jose Serpa, Rein Taaramae, David Abal | *** | Jose Alarcon, Bernhard Kohl, Dario Cataldo, Francisco Perez Sanchez, Cadel Evans | ** | Rinaldo Nocentini, Evgeni Petrov, Mikel Astarloza, Theo Eltink, Haimar Zubeldia | * | Hubert Schwab, Ivan Basso, Sergio Ortega, Thomas Peterson, Daniel Moreno |

This is the most important race for the team this season but it will be incredible hard for Serpa to win the race. The TT he did in Sardegna was pretty promising so he shouldn't lose too much time on Taaramae and he might be able to follow Ricco in the mountains too! Can't wait for the race to begin

Will be an exciting race. Hoping for Eltink but he ain´t good enough unfortunately. Hope he has a good form and can sneak behind the top 3.
Lets get ready to rumble!

Insanely tough field, as once again lots of managers focus on the more prestigious (slash Italian) races.

Longer mountains, should be ideal for Ricco. And probably he will lose some time in the TT, which means he won't be the leader and won't attack as the main favorite and wait till the end, might make a difference from Corsica.

... and I thought the field at Corsica was loaded. The field here is unbelievably strong (Youtube not included ). I could not even hazard a guess who is going to lead this thing home.
I guess the real winners maybe the teams who did not send riders here!
Guess Serpa and predictably Taaramae and Abal have the current advantage with the TT, will that give them the confidence to stick with riders like Ricco. Team tactics will be interesting a lot of teams seem to have sent not just one but two excellent riders here! |

The Wild card in this race is the TT to kick things off. The game has been known to make some strange decisions about who is team leader in the mountains after a chrono test. |

Can't be happy with this kind of time loss, 37 seconds might not be bad on Abal and Taaramae, who have what, 77 TT? But 23 seconds on Serpa who only has 72 TT? <.< That's another thing.

Eltink & Wyss lost some time, Eltink lost 1.11 maybe the favourites forget him in one of the two mountain stages and he can get away with a stage win |

That's one hell of a performance by Serpa! Only losing 14 seconds to stage winner Abal, 11 to Taaramäe and even taking 23 seconds to race favourite Ricco is fantastic. If he can stay on Riccos wheel for the rest of the race, then I believe he can win this race.
Good to see both Nozal and Basso performing too, they have to be ready for Serpa in the mountains.
Edit:
I have to repeat myself...
What a performance by Serpa again! Ricco should be the only danger to the overall lead but I'm really confident since Serpa looks good and the team looks capable enough to support him when needed. I hope the "hilly" stage will end in a mass sprint or something close, so Serpa will have around 1 minute to Ricco before the final stage of the race.

Very bad performace from team Bbox. I think the team needs a good transfer for next season.

K, now let's hope that Ricco attacks before Serpa on the final stage and everything will be alright .

How is it that Peterson is in the top 10 and Stetina isn't? Or is this some clever ploy, and Stetina is going to win back 5 minutes on stage 3?

Great sprint by Bernucci! Too bad the breakaway managed to stay away but third is still very good. The team should still have some energy left, since I'm sure they could had caught the breakaway if they were giving everything they had.
Good reporting once again Alex.

I'm with you there, Ricco could have used those bonification seconds on Serpa .

Thank you Caruso. Woop. And that makes the point of coming here a useful addition to the team's season.

Great with a podium place, too bad Caruso was way to strong. No it´s Eltink turn to get an amazing result on the last stage. |

Holy S*** it seems Ricco is on CERA again
Good race but it can't be avoided that it turned out to be the first sponsor goal that wasn't completed.

I have to say rycadinho, that you were very unlucky really with missing that goal. Though I notice you have completed two of your goals already and I would imagine Serpa should be able to help you land the top 5 in the Volta Portugal later in the year. I think most teams are going to struggle to make their 'win' goals, which is probably by design.
It was an amazingly strong race and that last stage shuffled things around a lot. Ricco and Serpa were always going to be around at the top and it was definitely a perfect race for them the Tour of Slovenie is another where we could see a similar type of field.
Ikea and Wiggle had pretty strong races, Wiggle in particular this looked like it could have been a tough race but once again they are loading the Classification with a number of riders. UBS didn't have too bad a time, though one would have expected Bernard Kohl to do better.
Horrible race for Mercedes and Benfica, two teams who are outside promotion hopefuls will feel this race was a big setback. Team LEGO and Santander will not be too happy with things either, though their will not be too many races with as strong a field as this one!
