Flat, more flat, uh! a tad of hills, Genting Highlands and a little bit more of flat. That pretty much sums up the route of this Malaysian race.
Mb's preview and predictions:
As expected in this largely flat race, the sprinting field is the strongest of the season so far, 20 riders with 78+ sprint means that these finishes will really just be a free for all, however as I have to name some favourites, lets go for Napolitano and the Pokerstars duo of Mohs and Guillén.
Hills
There is the most pathetic hilly stage ever on this tour, which means no doubt it will be decisive and ruin the tour completely, anyway the riders with the highest hill stat are Gil, Kolobnev and Pineau however if there is a split of some sort then surely Voeckler and Van den Broeck should be up there, although for one hope that it comes down to a sprint.
Mountains
The queen stage etc. at only 95km this mountain stage really doesn't favour subtlety, just attack early and stay away, that said we have a strong field of climbers here, and Alarcon and Serpa will surely battle it out for victory. beyond them Kohl should be up there, also it should be interesting to see how Samwel does in his first race of the season.
Overall
I suspect the overall will just list people in order of mountain stat and so for my top ten that's all I will do.
1. Alarcon
2. Serpa
3. Kohl
4. Nazaret
5. López Garcia
6. Samwel

Calzati could do a top 10 here, hopefully... |

All I want is a Stage win and a top 5. Or 7 stage wins and a podium sweep overall. I'm not asking for much...

Should be a good race. I'm hoping Impey improves his current form of failing in every sprint. |

Not a very bad team here for Bbox. I hope Voeckler can win a stage.

With such a large field here, it would appear that GC asperations will come down to who's strongest on the Genting highlands. Though last year outside the top three the riders came through in a bunch of groups, so maybe a top placing is more about positioning rather than pure mountains ability.
Petronas dominated the race in the climbing stages last year, and are likely to do it again, though I would see riders like Alarcon, Serpa and probably Kohl attacking with the Petronas leader Carrara at the end.
Scolling down the bottom of the roster I see some powerful sprinters here, with Davis and Mohs in particular hoping to take some of the 5 flat stages and perhaps an early leaders jersey. Looking forward to seeing the Pokerstars sprint train again, hope that Haider Anauwar from Red Bull can either latch onto it or create their own.
Our team leader Siutsou is probably a bit short of real climbing ability to go with the best climbers, so I would hope for a top 10 on the Genting stage.
We note we have heard of secret discussion between Telenor and Yamaha about ripping the race to shreds on the hilly stage 4! Though I believe this is the chance for a breakaway to win the stage
Predo:
1) Serpa
2) Carrara
3) Alarcon
4) Kohl
5) Rohregger
Pts: Davis |

Hopefully Lopez Garcia won't disappoint in his first race of the season.

Anything else than a top 5 GC finish from Serpa will be a complete disaster, so no pressure on him
I hope Loddo will continue his good form from Sardegna but he will need some luck with so many good sprinters.

Bosisio to place highly in the hilly stage and hang on in the mountains to take a top 5 place.
Alternatively, he'll conitinue on from last season and do sweet FA.

Curious. I get this feeling that someone deleted a post with a valid argument regarding the butchering the of the word "prediction". Even if it was filled with references to paedophilia.
Damn you admins, Schleck93 is crying now!

Btw, lots of greetings from Iceland, I suggest everyone to take a vacation to this place. It rocks! (Hot Pots = <3)

Best rider at 80th place! Woohoo! I will win this for sure!
Still hoping for a break by Voeckler. But my team might do ok in the GC.

So many great sprinters, its proving difficult to make an impact here. Encouraged to see Haider find a sprint train (albeit the wrong one) shows that he is aware!
One more sprint stage to come, a little longer and slightly hilly toward the end may effect some of the heavier sprinters a little. Should suit Napitilano, Haedo and Van Avermart - the latter sprinter the one that seems to be missing out so far.
Keeping an eye on the GC contenders and their countbacks - not sure there will be lots of time gaps on the crucial Genting stage. Here is the current situation of the main contenders
1. Kessiekoff (56)
2. Bosisio (86)
3. Carrara (98)
4. Serpa (193)
5. Van Den Broeck (204)
6. Samwel (219)
7. Gil (222)
8. Nazeret (226)
9. Lopez Garcia (233)
10. Alarcon (239)
11. Siutsou (251)
12. Asterloza (262)
13. Petrov (272)
14. Stetina (275)
15. Kohl (283)
Looking for Siutsou to get nearer the front !!! |

Genting Highlands is usually hit or miss. In past years Stetina has hit though, which is a trend I hope continues. We need all the points we can get.
