The first part of the day was one big attacking frenzy, with no one getting away until about 70 km into the race.
About 100 km into the race 12 riders have built a gap of 3’16’’
They are: Feillu (BAR), De la Fuente (ITV), Tombak (HAI), Verboven (NAC), Hivert (CCC), Charteau (MCS), Battaglin (FWB), van Winden (DOM), Kunitski (PER), Devolder (LPU), Deignan (TUG), Peña (AGT), Hoste (ABC) and Finetto (ABC).
Despite that everyone (except the Allianz-riders) take part of the workload the break is reeled back in with 120 km to go. The big names certainly aren’t taking any chances today.
Right as the first break is caught Lieuwe Westra and Brice Feillu go on the attack and surprisingly no one in the peloton continues the chase. In fact they even let Hivert and van Winden go out as well.
Not to mention Boasson Hagen, Pinot and Contador, who with 77 km to go has 2’43’’ to the peloton and 3’18’’ to the front duo.
It seems Cancellara used hid front break a bit to much on the wet roads 50 km from the finish line.
At this point the peloton has 1’21’’ to Contador, Pinot and EBH, a further 44 seconds to Hivert and van Winden, who has 1’59’’ to Feillu and Westra.
ITV and ING takes responsibility in the peloton and reels in all but the front duo with 40 km to go.
Westra is looking strong today as Feillu fails to keep up with him. With 25 km to the line the Dutch rider has 2 minutes to Evans, who has attacked and is now half a minute ahead of the peloton.
This race has turned in to a slow game of elimintation. With 15 km to the line it’s RodrÃgues, Westra, Evans and the Schlecks forming the front group.
The groups just keep getting pulled back together and 11 km from the line Andy Schleck tries to get rid of some of the guys, who has joined from behind. Evans is the only rider able to follow him at first.
Going under the 5 km mark it’s Schleck and Evans 12 seconds in front of Purito, a further 12’’ ahead of Sagan, who has 13’’ to Boonen, F. Schleck and Gilbert.
Evans is first to hit the Cauberg, but it will be a question of whoever has the most left after more than 250 km.
No one gets even close to the Australian today!
Andy Schleck takes 2nd ahead of RodrÃguez.
First big group is 11 riders sprinting for the 8th place.

Double Top-10, but with the team we've got we should really win these races. Still a nice second for Schleck though. |

Five riders form the early break: Verboven (NAC), Durasek (TLI), Busche (IOQ), Moyano (AGT) and Pardilla (SGL).
After 50 km of racing they have built a gap of five minutes.
Halfway through the race the gap has grown to 7’30’’.
50 km to go and the gap has been brought down to 4 minutes by the several teams contributing to the work in the peloton.
Purito is the first of the big names to show himself. 29 km from the line seems a bit early though…
The gap is closed by Gilbert himself and the result is not much more than gaining a lot of time on the break as well as cutting the numbers in the peloton to 68 riders.
The break fight the best they know and with 15 km to the finish line they still hold more than a minutes advantage on the peloton.
13 km and RodrÃguez tries again.
Purito quickly bridge the gap to the break and soon after pretty much every single team captain attack from the peloton.
Evans is looking strong again today being at the front of the front group going into the last 7 km.
Going in to the final 3 km its 14 riders fighting for the win: Purito, Albasini, Verboven, Froome, Voeckler, Devolder, Evans, Busche, Pardilla, Durasek, Cancellara, Gilbert, Schleck and Schleck.
A disorganized sprint for the final 1,5 km
1 km to the top.
500 m left and it is down to RodrÃguez vs Gilbert.
