7th March 2012 - Paris-Nice
(Mantes-la-Jolie - Orléans)
Stage one is a profile for the Sprinters! Basically flat all day, there is only one classified KoM climb at 86km. After that, it will a day for the fast men, so expect a bunch sprint at the end.
The team will work for the stage win, and should everything go to plan, I will showing off the Rainbow Stripes with my arms in the air at the end.
13km: It was a group of 4 riders who managed to get away at the beginning of the stage, with Taylor Phinney (BMC), Alexandre Pichot (Europcar), Andreas Klier (Garmin) and Dekker (Landbouwkrediet) all wanting to stretch their legs.
17km: Sky and Euskatel took up early control of the peleton, as the HTC guys made sure both Tony and I were brought to the front and out of trouble.
55km: The gentle pace set by Sky and Euskatel meant the break was given a lot of freedom, and soon the gap was over 10'34".
67km: The time to the main group reached a maximum of 14'52" before we decided to take over. Tejay, Thibault and Sami went to the front, working hard to pull back the break.
89km: Pichot took maximum points in the KoM Sprint, just edging out Klier on the line.
103km: Rabobank and Saur-Sojasun joined in with the chase of the break, and soon the time was tumbling down.
144km: With 40km to go, the gap was down to 2'12", and suddenly Jonathan Castroviejo (Euskatel) decided to have a go in a solo chase of the escapees.
152km: Back at the front, Andreas Klier had had enough of the slow 'cat and mouse' pace of this fellow breakaway men, and went off on his own.
167km: The attempts to get clear were soon snubbed out by the peleton, but things were not calm for long, as Castroviejo went again, taking Rast (RadioShack) and de Gendt (Vacansoleil) with him
Slight issue with Screenshots so the reminder of the report will be in text-form only
173km: The group of three did not manage to get far before it was pull back, and with 11km to the finish, the lead outs began to get themselves organised.
177km: Rabobank took control at the front of the arrowhead, setting a high pace for their lead out. I twas clear that Oscar Freire was feeling good today...
180km: 4km to go, and Tony hit the front. Matt Brammeier was sat on his wheel, with Renshaw patiently waiting to launch myself.
182km: Thor Hushovd (Garmin) and Koldo Fernández (Euskatel) targeted my wheel, as Tony finished his turn on the front letting Matt take over.
183km: Hushovd tried to spring the surprise by starting his sprint early, but Renshaw was as calm as you like, dropping me off perfectly with clear air in front...
184km: And I finish off the hard work of the team! Great victory, as I just hold off Fernández on the line. 5th win of the season, and I am yet to lose in a sprint to the line. Fantastic day for HTC!

8th March 2012 - Paris-Nice
(Vierzon - Le Lac de Vassivière)
The second stage of this year's Paris-Nice could not be any more different to Stage 1. After a flat start, the route heads into the Massif Central, with an undulating second half to the race.
The uphill finish rules me out of the running for the stage win, so the team's focus will be Sanchez and should the opportunity arise, we will look to get Thibault into the day's break for the KoM points.
6km: Two guys attacked from the off, and surprisingly, one of them was Bradley Wiggins (Sky). Clearly he did not have the GC in mind for this year's race...
23km: AS per usual, there were countless suicidal attacks from other riders, bridging the gap and forming a large 16 rider break.
30km: Vacansoleil, SaxoBank and Saur-Sojasun took early control and the big lead group never got more than 52" clear before it was brought back.
45km: It was Wiggins who initiated the next wave of attacks, and a group of 5 got clear. Seeing the danger in this move, Thibault went off after Wiggins, and made the break.
66km: Leopard, FDJ and Rabobank took over pace setting and at first seem to give the break a bit of leeway.
92km: The break was not to Thibault's liking, as a lack of work from the others began to get on his nerves. With he set off on his own, with sights set on the KoM sprints.
132km: The Frenchman took maximum points on the first 2 sprints, gaining 11 points in the process. But with the peleton and remainder of the break closing in fast, this was going to be tight race for the Polka Dot.
140km: ATTACK SCHLECK! Now this is a turn up for the books... Over 40km to go, and one of the GC favourites shows his hand. A bold move from the Luxembourger, but will it pay off...
168km: 15km to go, and everyone but Schleck is caught. The Leopard man has 30" or so over the chasing pack, and will be difficult ride to the finish on his own.
177km: 6km to go, and the attacks begin. Anthony Geslin (FDJ) goes first, and he is allowed to go. But when Samy attacks, the fireworks go off. He flys off the front, going past Schleck as if he is stood still, but could he catch Geslin for the stage win...?
182km: VICTORY GESLIN! Fine ride from the Frenchman, as he just holds off Samy on the line, who gaps all his GC rivals by at least 26". The fight for GC is certainly started now...
