sutty68: It's a great start indeed, and it's a prologue so it's actually an awesome start for us. Grin Unfortunately we nearly got a victory but just missed it, but it's been a very good start. Smile

Volta a Portugal – Stage 7

Stage Preview

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20a%20Portugal/Stage7_zps7ecc09f0.jpg

Today we had another flat stage here so there was a chance for the sprinters. At least, if there are any sprinters here, because I haven’t seen many.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20a%20Portugal/Stage%207/PCM1463_zps3e008ab8.jpg

After a long time, when a breakaway of eighteen riders tried to stay away but failed, we got a leading trio. Rodriguez was the one who set up the breakaway and O’Grady and Oliviera followed. Unfortunately they rode such a high speed that Rodriguez couldn’t follow anymore. With eighty kilometres to go he had to let them go, while the gap to the peloton was more than ten minutes. Totally empty he got caught and eventually lost much time to the peloton.

Oliviera and O’Grady managed to stay away and Oliviera gave the Portuguese fans the first Portuguese victory in this Volta a Portugal.

Today's Winner

USA Pro Cycling Challenge – Stage 2

Stage Preview

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/USA%20Pro%20Cycling%20Challenge/Stage2_zps8c7b1ba2.jpg

The second stage of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge was immediately a mountain stage so today we could see the riders who’re the favourites for the overall victory.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/USA%20Pro%20Cycling%20Challenge/Stage%202/PCM1465_zpse4ab28d0.jpg

Aguilar saw his opportunity today and attacked. But the annoying part was that the peloton didn’t want to let him go. He tried everything, but the peloton was chasing him. The funny part is that 120 of the 180 lost contact to the peloton because they were chasing so hard. When Aguilar got caught, it was chanceless to continue riding, only thirty of the riders came back. At least Aguilar took the lead in the mountain classification.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/USA%20Pro%20Cycling%20Challenge/Stage%202/PCM1466_zpsa1527a47.jpg

The second time Aguilar attacked was when there were three kilometres left this stage. Unfortunately two riders from the breakaway, where we weren’t in because the peloton didn’t like Rogers as well, hold it till the line. Eventually Kelderman overtook Aguilar the sprint but he took a very nice fourth position. Well done! Hopefully he can take revenge on the peloton the next few days for don’t letting him in the breakaway, because then he should’ve won this stage for sure.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/USA%20Pro%20Cycling%20Challenge/Stage%202/PCM1467_zpsede9833e.jpg

Eventually, when the snow was falling down, it was Barbé who took the stage victory.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/USA%20Pro%20Cycling%20Challenge/Stage%202/PCM1468_zps86822161.jpg

And this is Aguilar’s proud moment, but who the hell thought it was a good idea to put the camera behind this tree?! I think it wasn’t just our day, although we did very well. But if the peloton keep chasing our riders when they attack then we probably won’t have breakaways in the future because our riders always attack. It’s characteristic for our team and we won’t stop doing it. And if we aren’t allowed to be in the breakaway then nobody is allowed to be in it.

Today's Winner

Today’s Winner – Stage 8

Stage Preview

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20a%20Portugal/Stage8_zps1425e4ce.jpg

Today was the queen stage, a mountain stage, and I can say we had some plans. Let’s see how it turns out!

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20a%20Portugal/Stage%208/PCM1469_zps42931162.jpg

We were very happy that the peloton accepted that Lee was in the breakaway. They got a big gap and Lee was one of the better climbers in there. He won the first two mountain sprints. Meanwhile two of the riders in the breakaway lost contact and the gap to the peloton was growing. The gap was seven minutes when the riders still had to ride 30 kilometres! But almost all of these kilometres they had to climb and the gap was becoming smaller and smaller. The peloton broke and we got an elite group with five riders, and surprisingly Remuzgo was one of them.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20a%20Portugal/Stage%208/PCM1470_zps3c1c4d22.jpg

With twelve kilometres to go Lee attacked. The gap was only two and a half minutes so he really had to. That guy with the American flag really motivated him and he accelerated away from the other two.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20a%20Portugal/Stage%208/PCM1471_zps061dee64.jpg

Meanwhile Stetina and Boswell were attacking from inside the elite group. Remuzgo was the only one from the other three who could follow, well sort of. The gap to Lee became smaller and smaller. Can Lee hold it till the finish?

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20a%20Portugal/Stage%208/PCM1472_zpse4c7591e.jpg

Yes he can! Wooow what an awesome victory for out trainee! You see Boswell and Stetina sprinting in the back but once again they came too late. Awesome victory for us and our second stage here in Portugal. We knew he’s in good shape but we didn’t expect him to win this stage. Last year Aguilar won the Tour of Britain as trainee, this year Lee takes a stage in the Volta a Portugal. Pretty awesome!

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20a%20Portugal/Stage%208/PCM1473_zpscfbd34af.jpg

Remuzgo did an awesome job to finish fourth after he lost a lot of time in stage six. He moved up from 12th to 6th in the GC, which is nice as well.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20a%20Portugal/Stage%208/PCM1474_zps3d676eb1.jpg

Here is Lee on the podium, for the first time in his career he received the kisses from the girls. And I’m sure it won’t be his last time.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20a%20Portugal/Stage%208/PCM1475_zpsdc8a1ca6.jpg

Because of his performance today, with winning three mountain sprints, Lee took over the mountain jersey from Preidler. It would be awesome if he could keep this till the end.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20a%20Portugal/Stage%208/PCM1476_zpsa3097a05.jpg

And another newspaper, with for the first time Lee on it. Nice job!

What a great victory of Lee. Good to see that a trainee wins the queen stage.

Remuzgo had also a great result in this stage.

tmr96: That was a great victory indeed. I didn't expect him to hold it, but he did an awesome job. It's also good to see that Remuzgo takes some time back. It's a shame he lost much time during stage 6.

A Great win in Portugal Grin

sutty68: A great victory indeed. And the fact that it's a trainee who wins the queen stage in such a race as the Volta a Portugal makes it even more special! Smile

USA Pro Cycling Challenge – Stage 3

Stage Preview

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/USA%20Pro%20Cycling%20Challenge/Stage3_zps8673c8f2.jpg

The third stage of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge was another mountain stage.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/USA%20Pro%20Cycling%20Challenge/Stage%203/PCM1477_zps7df9d85e.jpg

The peloton didn’t let us have a rider in the breakaway so we had to do it with a quiet day in the peloton. The breakaway created a gap. Unfortunately De Maar took over the mountain jersey from Aguilar. On the last descent the peloton was closing de gap but they came a little bit too late.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/USA%20Pro%20Cycling%20Challenge/Stage%203/PCM1478_zpsde48eb9f.jpg

The breakaway was already sprinting for the victory. It was very close but eventually it was a rider of Bardiani who took the stage just in front of De Maar and Capecchi. Our riders finished in the peloton, except for Baumann who couldn’t follow on the last mountain.

Today's Winner

Volta a Portugal – Stage 9

Stage Preview

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20a%20Portugal/Stage9_zps9badda9c.jpg

A quiet flat stage before the time-trial tomorrow. It was actually a very boring stage. We had Massot in the breakaway and he won both intermediate sprints. Eventually the breakaway got caught and we got a mass sprint.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20a%20Portugal/Stage%209/PCM1479_zpse9838c89.jpg

Keough won the sprint and all of our riders finished in the peloton. So it was a boring day where nothing particular happened, although we got a rider who left the race because of an injury. Tomorrow is the time-trial. Let’s see how good Remuzgo will do and if he’ll manage to keep his sixth place in the GC.

Lee still has the mountain jersey and with only one stage left after tomorrow’s time-trial there’s a big chance that he’ll win it, which would be awesome.

Today's Winner

USA Pro Cycling Challenge – Stage 4

Stage Preview

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/USA%20Pro%20Cycling%20Challenge/Stage4_zpsf95684e3.jpg

Today we should see the real classification after the mountain stages and the prologue.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/USA%20Pro%20Cycling%20Challenge/Stage%204/PCM1481_zps70e7bc91.jpg

Aguilar was our first leader who started. He did a very good job and set the fastest time at the moment. Not much later it was Elissonde who beat it but he still did a very good job. Rogers actually did an even better job to ride a time which was eight seconds faster than Aguilar’s, which gave him the third place at that moment. Unfortunately many riders were stronger than they were. Burton wasn’t able to ride a time as good as our two leaders. Eventually Aguilar finished 25th, while Rogers ended up 18th. A good time-trial for us and we still have some opportunities the next few days. Kelderman won the stage and Philips is very dominant, looking to the top of the classification. The first four riders are from them, so they seem unbeatable here.

Today's Winner
