Atlantius
Once again Roche finishing inside the top 20 but outside top 10. Hope he finds a bit of the level he showed in Catalunya soon...

Stybar is shit. Gasparotto is shit. Nocentini is the biggest shit ever. This is Nocentinis 20th race day, and he has 0 points. Won't say more.

Look on the bright side of life... you're still way clear at the top of the rankings! Smile

Pauwels! Well, dafuq!
Amazing day for the team overall as well!

@Marco Reason I didn't post yet is that I didn't have internet yesterday(only 3G), and loading a report like this would cost a lot of 3G's for my mobile.
And today, I forgot to catch up earlier Wink

VOLTA CICLISTA AL PAIS VASCO

STAGE 5

STAGE INFORMATION

Bera-Ibardin - Oñati 183km
forallmyfriends.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/profile-Vuelta-Ciclista-al-Pais-Vasco-2012-stage5.png
Stage 5 is again hilly, and like all other stages it can go anywhere. A sprint, a breakaway, the favourites? With some rain expected, this stage will deliver some fireworks before the final time-trial.

THE RACE

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%205/PCM0001_zpsfcc2f410.jpg

Some riders attack directly after the start. The riders are: Marcel Wyss (MCS), Laurent Didier (IOQ), Matteo Montaguti (PER), Xavier Florenico (CAT), Cameron Meyer (LPU), Bjorn Leukemans (ABC) and George Preidler (RBM).

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%205/PCM0002_zpsb4cf5b5b.jpg

Didier wins the first mountain sprint. Fabian Wegmann, Stefan Schumacher (both SGM), Gorka Izagirre (BUL), Vladimir Gusev (HAI), John-Lee Augustyn (TLI) and Rasmus Guldhammer (TUG) are trying to bridge the gap with the front runners.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%205/PCM0003_zps4c6f9504.jpg

Meyer wins the next mountain sprint. The peleton is 3 minutes behind.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%205/PCM0004_zpsdbd491a5.jpg

But due to the high speed of TAP-Michelin is there an end to the dream of the breakaway members. Egor Silin (CAT) attacks and takes the mountain sprint.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%205/PCM0005_zpsafa5cfea.jpg

And he takes the next, when the peleton caughts him.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%205/PCM0006_zpse85700e0.jpg

The intermediate sprint is for Rinaldo Nocentini (PER), who attacked out of the peleton.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%205/PCM0007_zps9304c394.jpg

The Italian manages to hold off the peleton untill the second intermediate. The peleton, lead by ITV, is 30 seconds behind.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%205/PCM0008_zpsb9ba34c6.jpg

Wait, can someone please awake me from my dream. GC-leader Andy Schleck (ITV) attacks! The other GC-favourites are doing nothing. Is this a smart move by the Luxembourgian?

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%205/PCM0009_zps7a2f69e3.jpg

No, he and Nocentini are caught by the peleton.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%205/PCM0010_zps1980b74f.jpg

Alberto Contador (AGT) attacks! He gets countered by Andy Schleck and Samuel Sanchez (ABC). The finale is going to be more exciting than we expected.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%205/PCM0011_zps4336b124.jpg

Sanchez grabs the mountain sprint. The 3 musketeers have a 15 second lead over Nocentini and Igor Anton (MAG). 20 seconds behind them are Rui Costa (TAP), Robert Gesink (MCS) and Thomas Voeckler (ING). The peleton is very close behind them.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%205/PCM0012_zpsda319692.jpg

Sanchez shows his downhill techniques and rides away from the other two. The rain is starting to come down, so watch out!

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%205/PCM0013_zps1a9f04e6.jpg

The Spaniard holds on untill the intermediate sprint. Almost everyone in front of the peleton join him for the last kilometers.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%205/PCM0014_zpscdeff0a9.jpg

6km to go. Sanchez-Schleck-Contador-Anton-Nocentini-Voeckler have a 30 seconds lead.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%205/PCM0015_zps07c3431a.jpg

5000 meters and they're caught. Nocentini attacks again.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%205/PCM0016_zpse6db7f8f.jpg

3 kilometers. Three more attackers: Voeckler, Anton and Ion Izagirre (BUL).

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%205/PCM0017_zpsd65f64f2.jpg

And here we go again. The following riders attack out of the peleton: Daniel Moreno (CAT), Daniel Navarro (CCC), Contador. Sanchez, Costa and Andy Schleck.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%205/PCM0018_zps6c0f8e7c.jpg

Only 1 kilometers, Voeckler opens the sprint with Moreno in his wheel.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%205/PCM0019_zps2bb078df.jpg

500m. Voeckler vs. Moreno. They must watch out, because it's raining heavily.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%205/PCM0020_zps9f9bd56f.jpg

200 meters. Moreno overtakes Voeckler.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%205/PCM0021_zps24c44832.jpg

And the Spaniard gets the victory! Voeckler must be dissapointed with second place.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%205/PCM0022_zps88990e1f.jpg

We need a photo-finish to determine the places behind them. Anton finishes third, Sanchez fourth, Nocentini fifth, Contador sixth. Andy Schleck finishes eigth and keeps his jersey.

Yes, Moreno saves this race for my team! Smile

Great report once again. Wink

Second position for Voeckler. Hmm, ok, not bad.
I would secure a massive haul of points if the race ends like this. Wink

Nocentini & Gasparotto will do good in the Ardennes, I think.

Btw, TMM, when is the next rankings update scheduled?

The last stage of Pais Vasco will be reported in three parts. Part 1 will come tomorrow morning, part 2 in the afternoon and part 3 in the evening.

@justza - Thank you. I guess the DS won't be fired then? Smile

Great riding from Izagirre. Finally a top 10 finish and still a shot at a top 10 in the GC Smile

Good, Schleck keeps the overall lead. Hopefully he can survive the TT.

VOLTA CICLISTA AL PAIS VASCO

STAGE 6

STAGE INFORMATION

Oñati - Oñati 18,9 km
forallmyfriends.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/profile-Vuelta-Ciclista-al-Pais-Vasco-2012-stage6.png
The 6th and final stage. A 18.9 km long time-trial will decide the race. But it's not quite flat, with the same hill as yesterday's stage just before the finish. Has the GC-leader gained enough time in the hills, or will one of his concurrents grab the overall victory in the last stage. An exciting finale!

THE RACE - PART 1

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%206/PCM0024_zps7add29c4.jpg

The first one to start is the last one in the GC. American Tom Zirbel (PBG) set a decent time, 25 minutes and 41 seconds.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%206/PCM0025_zpsa5dd5530.jpg

The first one to beat that time is Brent Bookwalter (IOQ). He sets the new fastest time at 25 minutes and 31 seconds, 10 seconds faster as his fellow countryman.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%206/PCM0026_zps9bd1ad46.jpg

The first pre-race favourite to start is Lieuwe Westra (TAP). He slaughters Bookwalter's time, going 18 seconds faster.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%206/PCM0028_zps0fcd6efb.jpg

But here's Jonathan Castroviejo (BUL). He goes 2 seconds faster, in 25 minutes and 11 seconds.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%206/PCM0029_zps06a4dd23.jpg

American time-trial champion David Zabriskie (TLI) is next. He rides the same time as Castroviejo at both the split and the finish.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%206/PCM0030_zps64e3aa86.jpg

Robert Gesink (MCS) disappoints in this year's Volta Ciclista al Pais Vasco. He rides a good time-trial, but doesn't set the fastest time. He's 3 seconds behind the two leaders.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%206/PCM0032_zps721361cf.jpg

Philippe Gilbert (LPU) sets the fastest time at the split. Here he comes towards the finish. His time... 25 minutes and 2 seconds, the new fastest time!

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%206/PCM0033_zps1f4c87a8.jpg

It was not a good stage race for Jean-Christophe Peraud (IOQ), but he rides a great time-trial. He is only 8 seconds slower and provisional second.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%206/PCM0034_zpsb99b749e.jpg

Jurgen van den Broeck (HAI) overtakes Francesco Failli (FWB) in his time-trial. His time: 25 minutes and ........ 3 seconds, 1 second behind his fellow countryman Gilbert.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%206/PCM0035_zps82bf88b3.jpg

1 kilometer to go for Ryder Hesjedal (BAR). I can see him out of the commentary window right now. The stopwatch stops at 2 minutes and ..... 1 second. He's the new leader.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%206/PCM0036_zps274eb06b.jpg

But not for long, because the World Champion is here. Tony Martin (FWB) crushes the opposition and sets a great time which will be hard to beat. 24 minutes and 33 seconds means that he is 28 seconds faster as the Canadian, with only 10 riders left now.
