155km: The race is still neutralised so we have the time to take a look at the profile:
Today is a completely flat race with the exception of two cobbled cat. 4 climbs on the first 35km. The odds are that there is a mass sprint in the end but a few guys will surely miss out as they will be exhausted from these two cobbled climbs.
154km:
And immediatly after the start Amorison (CRE) sets the first attack of this race. Dion (BSE), Vanbilsen (TSV), Fouchard (COF) and Kiendys (CCC) follow.
150km:
The men in orange (Euskaltel) have brought them back.
147km:
3 guys have made another attack: Dion, Amorison & Ojavee (CSS). Their lead quickly grow to over 2 minutes. We have our BotD.
140km: Time to look at the favourites for the tour: As in the last years a very wide open race is espected. Many teams have brought strong cobble specialists like Sithembile (SKY), Pal (FDJ), McDermott (TST), or the Europcar trio Khamphan, Gaudin & Turgot. Considering that the third and most likely to be the most selective stage is hilly also the top puncheurs like Sithembile, Kakhi (CSS), Verboven (EUS), Boassen Hagen (Sky) or 2011 winner Voeckler (EUC) can not be underestimated.
If none of them can get a real advantage there the bonus seconds can decide, too. So the likes of Coquard (EUC), Boasson Hagen, Roelandts (LTB) or Markus (VCD) also have their chances.
And of course, strong engines like Jeremy Powers (BMC) have their chances, too.
If you look at all these names a lot of allrounder who fit in more than one of these categories are here so the top favourites are propably Sithembile, Boasson Hagen and Europcar as a whole team.
130km: The leading trio hits the hardest cobbled passage with 4 minutes advantage when Dion tries to surprise his companions with an attack. Very interesting tactic considering that he is known as the worst cobble rider and with regard to the remaining distance but perhaps he just want to wear the KoM jersey tomorrow instead of chasing a possible stage win.
Spoiler
Irizar (RLT) leads the pack over the pave section.
128km: Ojavee wins the mountain sprint ahead of Amorison.
123km: After winning the second mountain sprint ahead of Dion, Amorison will wear the KoM jersey tomorrow.
120km: Crash of Khampse Khamphan (EUC). He has to get back on his own as no tram mate is willing to wait. Together with Sijmens (COF) who punctured he can come back.
115km: From now on the route is Qatar-like flat.
102km: Verboven (EUS) punctures. Luckily for him, his whole team is waiting.
37km: The break has an advantage of 2'22'' when 3 riders attack: Pauriol (SOJ), Rutkiewicz (CCC) and Hondo (RLT).
18km: Amorison wins the intermediate sprint after already winning the first two.
17km: Rutkiewicz & Pauriol are caught while Hondo is still between the break (41'' ahead) and peleton (31'' behind).
13km: Hondo has reached the front trio.
10km: After a hard chase the peleton has reached the escapees. Due to the hard pace a group of 56 rider fall behind. Biggest name is Turgot (EUC).
9700m: Lotto has already build their leadout train for Roelandts.
8700m: Sky is the second team with a leadout train. Behind their main sprinter Boasson Hagen, Coquard and Verboven fight for the wheel.
5000m: Sky gives up the idea of building a sprint train. Instead, Boasson Hagen has switched to Roelandts wheel. Petit (Cof), Markus (VCD) and Gatto (VIN) are directly behind.
2200m: Roelandts has still 2 men while Gatto sits right behind. Also, Alinejad (RLT) seems to be in a good position. On the right side, austrian Eisel (SKY) is pushing forward.
1600m: Henderson (LTB) and Eisel are opening the sprint for their leaders. Gatto and Markus are directly behind them.
800m: Henderson with a very strong leadout gives Roelandts an advantage of two bike lengths ahead of EBH who is already on his own
500m: Going into the final corner nobody seems capable of beating Lotto Belisol. Behind the duo Boasson Hagen, Markus, Gatto & Kakhi are fighting for the podium.
300m: Roelandts passes Henderson.
And he wins the stage. Boasson Hagen gets second and Markus third.

And so it begins...
The pain of watching my four "sprinters" completely fuck everything up. A good solid 35th for Klaas there today. Oh well, at least we have Powers for the harder stages
EDIT: Though at least Blythe did win the prestigious bunch sprint for 91st.

Nice report, especially of the sprint, but is it really neccesary to put all the pictures in spoilers?

Solid start from Verboven. Good to see that he is in shape and that the team are working so well for him.

Substitute Turgot for Gallopin.

its starting to get interesting being CSC-manager. We've been in the break in both races now and also scored a Top10.
Yes, we are actually celebrating very small "victories".
