Atlantius - Showing that jersey is always nice
admirschleck - I agree. The WC will be quite nice to watch. Hope Henry can snatch a podium at least
VoetsT - Thanks! The Wedding Crashers is a small series during the story. I started this idea with "Night of the Camembert" a long time ago. These are short stories about things that have happened with Henry in his personal life. He tells them in pieces, breaking up the story. To see what this means, I'll PM you the post where this started, just so you can see for yourself
In these stories he has met Michelle, had a fight with Julien Duvivier, crashed into a ravine, met Sofia. Becca (best friend) came back from Paris. Had to decide between the two and now it's Becca en Henry's wedding day |

The Wedding Crashers - Part VIII And so the wedding turned into a small disaster. Becca locked herself in the bathroom, what a classic. And I was stuck with Erik, her father. I had a mind to hit him, tell you the truth.
I heard him out. As he as trying to explain where he was all these years, more and more guests started to leave. I stood up and looked at Erik.
"Listen. I don't have time for this now. My wife is in that bathroom and this is her wedding day. If you have some respect for her, you leave."
And so he did.
I convinced Becca to come out just in time for our opening dance.
During the dance, she put her head on my shoulder and cried.
Oh - I hated that guy!
GP Montréal Even though it's not that different from Quebec, this profile is more to my liking. Two reasons why:
1. The finish is flat, my sprint comes in quite handy at times like this.
2. The sprint is not straight forward but with two 90° corners. Slowing down and accelerating is the key here, something I'm quite good at!
The Race Sagan decided to open the race early - real early. Around 40 kilometers left to go.
Two laps later he got caught. I decided to not give him a chance to catch his breath, so I attacked. He followed nonetheless.
We formed a little group, form which Fuglsang tried to get away immediately. I was forced to do the chasing.
We caught him. And then nobody wanted to take the front. We were in the final lap.
This hesitating allowed Daniel Martin to come back from the back and surprise us by jumping over us!
I bluffed, which was sort of dangerous. But luckily Valverde reacted! Catching Martin, he decided it was too late to drop in pace. He started an early sprint.
Then the two 90° corners came. My moment to shine! I took meters with every corner.
Three riders were in the way, a lap behind, but it was no problem passing them. My first victory since the Tour de France, and just in time for the World Championships!

This is just what I needed for the World Championships. It's my first Classic win. I feel pretty strong and I'm getting better and better at these kind of stages. I still prefer the altitude and length of mountains, but I'm getting the hang of this, too!
See you in a week and a half, for the World Championship Road Race 2015!

There was no way Henry was going to lose today. We just didn't know how he would do it.
Amazing race. Can't wait for the WC now!!!

Jakstar22 - It had been coming, I agree Sagan tired himself out so the victory was there for the taking!
anderspcm - Yeah, after Amstel, Plouay and Quebec, he needed that win!
Atlantius - Best way to show a jersey. His first victory in this jersey, actually. When wearing it, I mean.
Dippofix - The curse has been broken!
I decided I will try to race the Worlds later today. Already did the TT. will do the RR in a few hours and report back!
From next season, I won't have the WC problem anymore, so I won't have to race WC as a Classic. |

It looks like Henry's life is full of dumba**, I mean Michelle, this so called father...
Good to see it doesn't affect his perf. 1-2 in Canada, it was worth the trip

Shonak - Form is right, now the big question: can Henry take on the best and become World Champion at age 24?
VoetsT - A classic win has been long overdue at this point that's one more than Contador already!
Faillu - He's still out of the league from Hinault, Anquetil and some others, but he's coming up strong indeed
sutty68 - Indeed. It was a fun trip
duxili - I guess meeting all these people helps to increase his patience, which pays off in cycling Definitely worth the trip |

The Wedding Crashers - Part IX (finale) And so even my wedding day had its share of turbulence. They never told me being a cyclist can be this hectic. But in the end, Becca was my wife, and there was no one or nobody that could change the way we felt about each other. We danced far into the night, we danced our troubles away.
The next morning, we slept in late.
When we woke up, I looked at Becca and I knew everything would be all right.
Because we were Mr. en Mrs. Vergnaud.
It's that time of the year again! The World Championships. Looking for the best riders in each category. Last year I had my first taste at the event and it was huge.
This year, there are no excuses. I want to ride for the podium at least. I feel strong and now that I'm 24 I've matured enough as a rider to go for the big thing: the Rainbow Jersey!
World Championships - Team Time Trial
Team Celesio - Macquarie has been investing a lot in strong Time Trialists. But the competition remains fierce. Quick Step recaptured its title after being 2nd last year. Celesio, so we, missed out on the 1st place by only 3 seconds. The last team on the podium was Garmin.
World Championships - Individual Time Trial
Wiggins has been preparing for this day and set an impressive time.
Tony Martin was a tad faster than the Brit, though. A new record time!
Travis Bickle has been coming up in the world these past few years. He beats Martin by 2 seconds!
De Gendt, defending champion, is looking to make it 3/3. He takes on an immense pace.
It was very close in the end, but who had won? See the results below!
World Championships - Road Race The Swiss have certainly made an attractive route to this World Championships. There's a lot of climbing to do and the final kilometer is flat with lots of turns.
We got ahead of the game and got Pinot in the breakaway. France 1 - The Rest 0!
This World Championship has been talked about a lot. There is no clear winner. Sagan, Martin, Valverde, Rodriguez, De Gendt, me... So many possible winners. So the race was controlled by many teams working together.
And then we fast forward... Sagan, 3 laps from the finish! Nobody saw this coming, nobody was close to react. What a risky move!
I admit, I got scared. He took 30 seconds immediately. Chavanel and Warren (Barguil) decided to sacrafice themselves for me and pushed to pace so hard I was barely able to follow. The peloton even lost touch!
It seemed too late. Sagan was gone!
But we pulled ourselves together. Along with Belgium and Spain, we bridged the gap on the flat section. Sagan is strong, but he's all alone! Well, besides the breakaway leftover sucking his wheel.
Just like in Montreal, Sagan got caught in the final lap. And just like in Montreal, I didn't want to give him a chance to recover. We needed to move, fast, the final climb of the race and the pack was still too big. I couldn't win a mass sprint! I needed to make my move - NOW!
I couldn't have been more lucky! My attack blew most of the competition away! I only have 60 race days so far, which plays to my advantage! But luckily Hesjedal stuck to my wheels. Costa was closeby. With the three of us, we could surely hold off the chasers!
The chasing group didn't find each other and all sort of attacked. They were coming close, but we were going into the final corners.
I used my bike handling to take the corner as good as possible. Then I started my sprint! They had forced me to the front but on this route that wasn't necessarily a disadvantage. With these turns, you can force a gap you can keep in the final (short) straight line.
Very aware I was sprinting for the most beautiful jersey in the world, my legs were dying. They were filling with acid now. I couldn't keep this up much longer! But there was the finish!!
Ooooh My God!!! Neither Hesjedal nor Costa had the legs to challenge me in the end! I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the finish line just a meter in front of me!
I was besides myself! Shouting, screaming. Trying to get off my bike too enthusiastically, I even tripped and fell down hard. But I felt nothing. Where my legs were burning just seconds ago, I now felt bliss. My legs felt lighter than a feather.
One year earlier than I had planned, but I had conquered the most beautiful jersey in the world. I was the World Champion 2015!

The Night of The Champion - Part I One does not win the World Championships every day. After my interview with Radio B, I gladly got back on the plane. We would be returning home immediately, seeing the World Championship was in Swiss.
I started wondering whether Becca had watched it on television. Either way, I was happy to sit down, finally. As we took off, I opened my backpack and grabbed the shirt I had put in there earlier.
There, on the plane, I held up the Rainbow Jersey, just to look at it some more. People started to applaud spontaneously, pleasantly surprising me.
I couldn't wait to get home!
I've been awake for almost 36 hours now, I'm gonna get some sleep!
I'll be seeing you around!
