I've watched bit of Giro though and have to say - please employ Dan Lloyd as a commentator full time, much better than Quigley.
This. Harmon is by far the best of their main men (ie - not people like Kelly or Backstedt who are there to add specialist comments) but Lloyd is really good too. I would much rather listen to him than the cringe-worthy Quigley.

This Giro's first ITT wasn't exactly a pan flat TT with large straight lines either.
I wouldn't have ruled out Quintana being a contender in these conditions. |

Are you kidding me? They had to "re-route" the route because there were some local elections? I don't know much about italian politics (except Silvio), but are elections decided 5 minutes in advance?

And to think the best Colombian wasn't even here. (quintana)
Quintana could have challenged Nibali uphill, but would lose ultimately in the time trial(s)
That is not true. I don't know how, but Quintana won the Tour of Basque Country on the last TT. He was even better than Porte on the time trials, so I think that Quintana might have been a serious competitor for Nibali. Then again, it's only theoretical.
Flat TT -//- Technical, Wet, Hilly TT
Purito came Top 10 in similar TT last year in Tour of Basque, doesn't say much about his great ability in TT
However, Quintana is more than decent in TT's I'd say, and has lots to improve, he will only get better as well if he practices.
Yes that is true. It was in fact very technical.
But I'd say that the first TT in this years Giro also was very technical, so he would have been doing good there.

I think Quintana estimations are a tad premature. The guy has bags of talent, he showed at last years Vuelta and at this season Catalunya and Basque Tours that he can definitely be counted as a contender.
It's an interesting discussion point though where to put Nibali and Quintana in the current crop if GC guys.
I have it, something like this:
1. Nibali
2. Froome
3. Contador
4. Rodriguez
5. Wiggins
6. Valverde
7. Hesjedal
8. Uran
9. Quintana
10. Van den Broeck
Though leaving riders like Evans, Schleck, Henao, Porte, Van Garderan, Betencur out is tricky.

Nibali has come a lot closer this Giro, but I still think Froome is better.
Also, Contador is nowhere near that good anymore. Purito and Valverde were both better than him in last year's Vuelta.

Van den Broeck isn't one of the ten best IMO. Betancur, Henao and TVG are all better I think. Also I would want to see Hesjedal and Wiggins both perform at their best again before I declared then amongst the best. I would also perhaps swap Purito and Contador around.
EDIT: Oh and Froome is better than Nibali.

TVG is not better than Van den Broeck, maybe in a GT with 2 long FLAT ITT's and little mountain stages...but that's seldom the case.

Wonder if they'd have done the same for Di Luca?

Pretty sure that was not the intermediate - Omega fail. Not that it matters of course.

I have a profile with it being at 20.8k to go as well.
