Dont understand why Froome attacked Porte. Bit of a dog act really. Making a habit of putting himself infront of the team....

He didn't attack as such. Froome was stronger. Pulled away and when he saw he had a gap he just continued it. He was stronger than Porte, no point waiting.

Porte pulled back 25 seconds in the 2nd last kilometre. Hardly call him stronger....

I highly doubt Froome was gassing the last 1-2kms, especially if he knew it was only Porte behind.

Happy for Kulhavy at Cape Epic, brutal race that is. Smile

Also nice job from Leo Konig in Italy, i hope he will have better time this year with his back, as he had big problems with it last year and missed that Giro wildcard, i would love to see him at GT. Anybody knows if NetApp has chance for any wildcard this year?

And wow to Ulissi, he destroyed it, but Lampre couple was level above opposition right before the start on the paper. I am looking forward to his classics and Giro performance.
I'll be back

I even think Porte gave him the okay, if I'm not mistaken. Froome was a bit in front, looked behind, looked at Porte and only then decided to really go.

Before the stage they talked about their tactic. If Froome has good legs he was supposed to attack. If Porte had good legs, he would attack.

When Kirjenka got dropped Froome took over as he wanted to work. But then he created a gap without purpose as he was stronger than the rest. So he decided to go on improving the gap.

So Froome moves to 12th in the all time list of the Criterium International, Col de l'Ospedale climb https://www.fillarifoorumi.fi/forum/sh...ost1996897

A whole second faster than Taaramäe's effort in 2011 but shy of Evans et als effort last year...

Last year: decent weather, dry roads.
This year: freezing weather, wet roads. Amazingly he was only 11 seconds slower.

Or to put it another way:
- Bouet went from 21s down to 1m8s down
- Freaking Fédrigo held on to sprint for the win last year. This year lost 1m8s
- Péraud lost 20 seconds last year, when he was off form and had the worst year of his career. This year he's been quite good....lost 45s
- Monfort went from 21s down to over 3 minutes down

The gap to 20th place was 1 and a half minutes. This year over 4.

Yes, and you're only mentioning a handful of the numerous factors, subjective judgements and context that play a key part in performance. The times do provide one concrete fact in a sea of subjective judgements and opinions that can be argued one way or the other.

To be clear I don't provide the information as proof of anything - there can be no proof at present - it does provide just a little bit more information on which to base ones opinion though.

Interesting article here https://www.cyclismas.com/2013/03/port...-a-frenzy/ - ask questions , be cynical, have clear reasons for doing so - in your post you have stated some clear reasons why someone might decide to be doubtful, all good Smile

65km to go in Driedaagse De Panne with Cav and Greipel currently taking turns on the front Grin

Break of the day coming back soon.

Others in action include Sagan, Boonen, Chavanel, Gatto and Ciolek.

*Edit remnants of the break reinforced with a break of 6 now away and working well together to take the gap back out to over a minute with just over 40km to go. With 5, typically Belgian, climbs to come and some pave could be a good finish.

Ciolek already on Sagan's wheel 30km out Pfft Grin

German ES commentators debating about Ciolek's chances in the Ronde... I seriously should apply for that job.

ianrussell
Chava tries an attack - no luck - Sagan on the front for a climb with Cavendish closing the gap to him. Looked a little easier going for Sagan Grin but still strong stuff for Cav relatively speaking.
