Le Samyn (formerly known as Fayt-Le-Franc) is a 189km race in Belgium, near the French border. It is a cobbled race, although there are less than 5km cobbles in this entire race.
Last year the race was won by Dutch Roy Curvers (Skil - Shimano). Theo Bos finished in 3rd place.

Our goal
Top 3.
We worked our asses off to get one rider in the BOTD, and after unsuccesful attempts by Rosseler & Vanmarcke, it is Martijn Maaskant who is part of the BOTD. Together with Yann Huguet (M&M's) and Jonathan Dufrasne (Wallonie) he gets a maximum lead of 7'30.
Maaskant's tactic is to ride away in the 2nd lap of the final circuit (4 laps in total), but already on the first cobbled section, he creates a gap and continues on his own. That is the sign for M&M's (as Huguet isn't longer in the lead) and Lotto - Ridley to start a chase. With 2 laps to go, 38 kilometres, the lead is 3'04.
In the next 18 kilometres, the gap between Maaskant and the peloton decreases. Starting the last cobbled section, 10 kilometres remaining, the gap is under a minute.
But Maaskant's powers are fading, and the peloton is closing him in. This is the sign for Niki Terpstra to attack. Can he hold om for the next 3500 metres to the finish?
He creates a gap of 20 seconds, but when the riders in the peloton start to sprint, it decreases rapidly. Kristof Goddaert (Lotto) and Kenny van Hummel (M&M's) are the first ones to close the gap.
And then my angry feeling about the game is showing up again. Terpstra gets caught and only Bert Scheirlinckx (Landbouwkrediet) is sprinting on full speed. Behind him is a pile of cyclists, and no one is getting through it. The entire teams of M&M's and Lotto are sprinting, and our 2 riders for the sprint (Keukeleire & Westra) can't make up places. For a moment I'm thinking about quitting this game and simulating it......
So Bert Scheirlinckx wins this year's Le Samyn, followed by Kevin Hulsmans (Cofidis) and Staf Scheirlinckx (Lotto). Best placed rider from our team is Terpstra, in place 18. Keukeleire has to settle with place 37...........

Today's winner
Word from the DS
What to say????? I think the tactic was good, to be in the BOTD, and after that to set up a new attack. In the peloton Westra and Keukeleire were on the wheel (->S) of Van Hummel, but in 200 metres time, they lost the wheel and go dropped from the first row of the peloton to the last. This thing in PCM 11 really annoys me, just as the fact that all riders from 2 teams join the sprint..........
The favourites ***Thomas Dekker, Daniele Callegarin (Team Type 1), Paolo Tiralongo (Astana) ** Enrico Gasparotto (Lampre), Wilco Kelderman, Jure Kocjan (Team Type 1) * Fabio Felline (Nespresso), Giampaolo Caruso (Katusha), Francesco Gavazzi (Lampre)
Our goal
Getting another win wil be difficult, so we will be happy with a top 3.
We start our report with the 2nd to last climb of the day, 40 kilometres before the finish. In the first part of the race, there were some breakaways (including Thomas De Gendt), but none succeeded. But an attack of Paolo Longo Borghini (Liquigas) has shaken things up. He has a lead of '59 to Jack Bauer (Bank BGZ) and Tejay van Garderen (Colnago). A group of 4 with Peter Sagan and Sergiy Firsanov (Itera) in it follows at 1'43 and the peloton is 3'42 behind.
Longo Borghini starts the last lap and things look very well for him! Bauer and Van Garderen follow at 1'28 and the peloton at 2'44.
In the next 6 kilometres to the foot of the last climb, Longo Borghini looses only '35 to the peloton. This is the sign for many attacks, the first is by Xavier Florencio (Nespresso). 10 kilometres to go.
Longo Borghini has made it to the summit of the climb and can start the 7km-long downhill. The chasing peloton has passed Bauer and Van Garderen and follows at 1'12.
Paolo Longo Borghini can cruise to the win in the Giro del Friuli, and finally gives his Liquigas something to cheer for.
Florencio wins the sprint for the 2nd place, followed by Jure Kocjan. Wilco Kelderman finishes in 5th position, Thomas Dekker in 8th.

Today's winner
Word from the DS
Not a bad race for us. Sagan was in the breakaway, but still lacks form. Then again the peloton mistimed the chase. We are satisfied with 5th place and are looking forward to Paris - Nice and the Tirreno.
Back to Belgium for the Driedaagse van West-Vlaanderen. It's a 3 stage race near the Belgian coast, consisting of one 7km prologue and 2 flat stages with some cobbles in it.
Last year, Theo Bos was close to winning the race last year, but got beaten in the last sprint and the GC by Jonas Vangenechten (Wallonie).

Our goals
The usual, a stage win and Top 3 in the GC.
Stage 1
Sébastien Rosseler is our best rider in the Prologue near the coastline in Middelkerke. He finishes in a time of 9'46 and nearly misses the win (2nd place).
The win goes to Dutch Tom Stamsnijder (M&M's). He is only a few hundreds of a second faster than Rosseler.

Stage 2
A group of 21 riders form today's BOTD in the stage from Brugge to Bellegem and they get a maximum lead of 13'30!! We have failed to get a rider in it, and start the chase to let. But disaster happens when GC's number 2 Sébastien Rosseler crashes 14 kilometres before the finish. He can get back on his bike but will loose 5'05 today.
The leading group breaks in some pieces, but in the end 14 riders sprint for the win. Topsport Vlaanderen's Jérome Baugnies takes the win, followed by Fabio Bolazzi (Wallonie) and Thomas Bonnin (M&M's). The peloton finishes 2'24 behind the leading group.

Stage 3
The last stage from Nieuwpoort to Ichtegem brings us another big BOTD. 18 riders get a maximum lead of 9'30 and in it is our Sébastien Rosseler, who is leading the group on the Kemmelberg. Other BOTD-members are Taylor Phinney (BMC), Ben Hermans (Nissan - Radio Shack) and Gianni Meersman (FDJ). Best placed rider in the GC in this BOTD is.... Rosseler at 4'54!
Rosseler is the strongest rider in the BOTD and he attacks at the last ascending cobbled section. With 10 kilometres to go, he has a lead of '25 to the chasing group. The peloton is almost 5 minutes behind, so it's even going to be close for the GC.
3 kilometres to go and a lead of '25, 2 kilometres to go and a lead of '20, 1 kilometre to go and already passed by 4 riders..... Need I say more?
Ben Hermans (Nissan - Radio Shack) wins the sprint and the stage, followed by Meersman and Kamil Zielinski (CCC). Rosseler finishes in 12th place. The peloton finishes 4'45 behind (and those how can calculate know enough)

The overall winner
Word from the DS
What a Driedaagse van West-Vlaanderen for Rosseler. First he nearly misses the win in the GC, than the crash one day after, and in the last stage nearly winning the stage win and the GC-win.
@ all: Thank you guys. Playing on extreme still has al lot of strange difficulties for me....
Coming up tomorrow: A short report of the Vuelta de Murcia and the preview of Paris - Nice (and maybe the first stage), with some serious strong participants!!
The riders that will start in the Tirreno - Adriatico ride the Vuelta a la Région de Murcia. It's a 3 stage race, and divided into one hilly stage, one mountain stage and one ITT. So the winner has to be a real allrounder.
In 2010 the race was won by Staf Scheirlinckx (Veranda's Willems), beating Basque Jonathan Castroviejo.
The favourites ***Thomas Dekker, Wilco Kelderman, Samuel Sánchez (Euskaltel) ** Jérome Coppel (Veranda's), Benat Intxausti (Movistar), Iván Gutiérrez (Andalucia)
Our goal
Again, a stage win and the Top 3 in the GC.
Stage 1
The Vuelta a la Région de Murcia start with a 175km hilly stage from San Pedro del Pinatar to Alhama de Murcia. A group of 10 riders form the BOTD and 7 of them manage to stay in front of the peloton. Caja Rurals Fabricio Ferrari wins the sprint of the leading group, in front of Ricardo García (Orbea) and Javier Megías (Team Type 1). The peloton, with our 3 leaders in front of it, finishes at 1'14.

Stage 2
Stage 2 from Estrella de Levante to Sierra Espuna, 179km with 2 climbs in the last part. And again a breakaway stays out of reach for the peloton. Well, not the entire 9-man BOTD, but 2 remaining members of it. David López (Movistar) wins the sprint-a-deux, in front of Brice Feillu (Saur). Feillu gets rewarded with the KOTM-jersey.
In the beginning of the last climb, Veranda's Willems Jérome Coppel has attacked. Our duo in form, Thomas Dekker and Wilco Kelderman chase him in the last kilometres of the climb and in the descend, reach him, but can pass him. So Coppel takes the 3rd place at '56, the peloton follows at 1'30.

GC
Coppel, Kelderman & Dekker pass the member of the breakaway in stage one, so Coppel is the new leader in the GC. All 3 are good time trialists (stats 75-77) so they are gonna fight for the GC-win.

Stage 3
The final stage is a 12.3 kilometres almost flat Individual Time Trial in the streets of Murcia. Best time is set by Andalucia's Iván Gutiérrez (Andalucia), in a time of 16'21.
The first of the favourites to start is Thomas Dekker. We don't know what happened last night, but his daily form is disastrous (-5). He looses 19 seconds to the winner of this ITT, taking the 11th place. But he can take place in the hot seat, as he leads the GC with two riders to go.
Young Wilco Kelderman has a better daily form (+2), but things don't look well. Just as his teammate, he rides on dot 65, but where Dekker had some energy left in the last kilometre, Kelderman has no energy left already with 3 kilometres to go!! He finishes in 26th position at '34 and gets passed by Dekker in the GC.
The last rider to start is French Jérome Coppel. He's a very good time trialist and shows his great form. Coppel even is faster than Gutiérrez and wins the stage in a time of 16'18. Of course he also wins the GC, the 2nd year in a row that Veranda's Willems wins the Vuelta a la Région de Murcia!!

Overall winner
Word from the DS
Pretty good Vuelta for us. Although we didn't get a stage win, and we had no chance in the final ITT, we are happy with 2 riders in the GC-Top 3. Dekker & Kelderman are ready for the Tirreno!
Paris - Nice, the race to the sun, celebrates it's 70th anniversary and as a present to the French crowd, a lot of strong riders show up. The route is the somewhat similar to the route in 2010, with a lot of hilly stages and the Col de Mende as probably the decisive climb / finish in this edition.
Veteran Chris Horner won last year's edition, beating Christophe Kern and our Peter Sagan. Horner is present this year, as a member and luxury domestique of Philippe Gilbert in the Lotto-team.
The stages
A 4.6km prologue in Issy-les-Moulineaux, completely flat.
Stage 2, 186 flat kilometres from Colyes-sur-le-Lor to Buzançais. Think it'll be a mass sprint.
Stage 3 from Vatan to Limoges, a little bit hilly, but probably not enough to prevent a mass sprint.
Stage 4, from Limoges to Maurs la Jolie (215.4) can shake up the GC, no mass sprint, probably a breakaway.
Stage 5 from Maurs la Jolie to Mende is the first real test for the GC-contedners, with the steep Col de Mende before the finish.
The 180km 6th stage from Sorgues to Manosque probably won't break up the GC-contenders, although some will losse time here.
Stage 7 from Brignoles to Cannes is almost 200km long and has a lot of short steep climbs. But the last summit is 20km before the finish, too far away?
The last stage with start and finish in Nice. Can the Col d'Eze decide the 70th Paris - Nice?
The favourites
Always difficult to tell in the beginning of the season, as you don't know much about the fitness level of the other riders. *** Alberto Contador (Saxo), Philippe Gilbert (Lotto), Tony Martin (Quick Step) ** Roman Kreuziger (Astana), Jonathan Castroviejo (Euskaltel), Damiano Cunego (Lampre) * Frank Schleck (Nissan), Ryder Hesjedal (Garmin), Thomas Voeckler (Europcar)
Our goals
We'll aim for a stage win this year. We don't think that Thomas De Gendt is strong enough to get a Top 5 for the GC in this strong field, as he did last year. A top 10 in the GC would be very good for us!
