Trek were interested in Roche. He's a must sign for them now; since Sky took Poels they might not come after him.
Thats obviously what I hope for as a big fan of his but Roche's Agent Andrew McQuaid brought Deignan to Sky and has a good relationship with the team and Porte's tweet training with Roche too much points to him going to Sky rather then Trek. He still has the quality to lead GT's or go stagehunting in them but he will never get that oppurtunity if he goes to Sky
I'm expecting him to go there, since Wiggo (most likely) will go somewhere else
Roche shouldn't be given leadership in GT's, he tried that and is a level below when it comes to 3 week races, he is a solid back-up for a top 10 if things go wrong but no leader. Sky or Trek he will still get chances to stage hunt so I don't see the problem with him going to Sky.
Oh and Wiggins isn't going anywhere having already resigned
I know, he totzlly shouldn't. He tried and only got atop 5. He sucks.
When did I say he sucks? Yeah he bagged a top 5 and as I stated a solid back-up but he would be lucky to fluke a podium and just won't win a GT, he is a level below the top tier when it comes to 3 week stage racing. He is capable of winning multiple stages, 1 week races and could do well in the hillier classics, why would that be the wrong direction for him to take? Better to end a career having that on the palmares than multiple annoymous top 10's in GT's.

He wouldn't be leading week long races, he would be pacing for Froome/Porte
People always say it's better to not just get anonymous top 10s in GTS and try other races. But the fact of the matter is that there are very few teams with a GC rider that can actually win a GT. But every team still has a GC rider, and a top 5 in a GT is still worth going for. No question. There is a huge market for it.

Roche is overrated. He's a likeable guy and a rider, but I am afraid he won't be able to achieve anything more than GT Top 10 in rest of his career.

Totally agree with you on that, he is a good rider but not GT (Winner) material |

Roche is still a good GC rider he can climb well and could have won GT stages this year but he can be a bit passive, he choose to help Rogers (in breaks) and Majka at the Giro after his crash going to Montecassino I was looking forward to see him ride for GC that tour. He was stronger than Majka on Pla D'alet at the tour this year but helped him win the KOM Competiton instead. With his underrated TT (6th in Vuelta TT 2013 and 13th in the World TT Champs last year) and a bit more aggression on the climbs he can still ride for Top 5s at GT's

There are realistically only about 6 guys int he peloton that can for sure win a GT, that doesn't mean there shouldn't be any other guys going to lead at GTs...

I always thought that this was common knowledge concerning Roche |

Quintana, Contador, Froome, Nibali amd no one else? All are sub-level combined to these riders

Proves my point even more. Other teams still have GC guys, and even though those guys are considered leaders, they could never really win a GT. Still worth having.

Basically true... But if a GT most unlikely won't have any of those four, there will be a free-for-all battle with 4-5 guys for the GC.

I would also include Rodriguez in that conversation. A crash from another contender and he could snatch it.
But it depends very much on how the these guys will plan next year. Nibali as said that he wanna do a Giro-Tour double, and the other 3 will most surely also attend the Tour. Question is if they will do the Vuelta, if not, a guy like Valverde could also join the conversation. UrĂ¡n and Aru as well possibly. |

Most of you forget about Horner. He beat Nibbles last year, could very well be a GC winner again next year.
Present:
Tinkoff-Saxo - AG2R - Colombian riders
Past:
Francisco Mancebo - Illes balears - Carlos Sastre - Kelme - Robbie McEwen

Horner is this old that it's hard to believe he is ever going to win again. He was exceptionally old for a GT winner last year already, though, |

I read that Betancur was going to Quick-Step but it was denied, anybody know if he's leaving Ag2r or staying? |

He just signed a new contract with AG2R, so he's apparently staying. However, there were few talks how his contract might be sold or something like that, but I'd just take those as rumours and not "real" informations.

I wonder what his position will now be in the team?
Pozzovivo is leader for the Giro and Bardet and Peraud for the Tour, that leaves the Vuelta for him and he does crap in that, this year he's already 2 hrs down.
I suppose he could be the Ag2r leader for the hilly classics.
