Tour de San Luis
Stage 5
The Queen stage of the Tour de San Luis, this is will the first place that Chaves can start taking some time back on his rivals. He looked good on the climb on Stage 3, so there is good hope for today.
The day's break went early in the race, but with a limited opportunities for KoM points, Davide was set to working for Chaves.
As the peleton hit the big climb of the day, only Del Nero (Caja Rural) remained off the front. Behind Pozzovivo (AG2R) had attacked, opening a small gap on the rest.
Davide was used up early, and Moser did a fantastic job looking after Chaves on the lower parts of the climb. Small groups began to form, and Estaban found himself in a group with Wiggins (RadioShack), Sagan (Cannondale) and Van den Broeck (Lotto). Visconti (Movistar) was just up the road, with Pozzovivo with Del Nero.
Over the top, the pace set my Chaves and Wiggins was enough to break Sagan, and the trio worked well in the chase of the front three.
Pozzovivo would take the win on the stage, just holding off Del Nero and Visconti who did well to catch him. Estaban finished with the Wiggins/Van den Broeck group, making up plenty of time on his rivals in the process. Good day for the team.

Great to see you continuing this. It'll be very nice to see the team in the Tirreno. A good result from Chaves. By the way: maybe it'd be useful to add the stage number?

The team will surely get good results in Italy, showing they are worthy of that wildcard.
Meanwhile, Chaves is doing very well in San Luis, after a not so good TT. |

@fernando: My martijn story was at a natural break so I thought I would come back to this. Motivation is back and I have been able to bring some styles from my Martijn story to this
@mvh: that's the plan. The team will be nice and aggressive
@voets: the gc is better than what it was after the ITT... It is early in the season though

Tour de San Luis
Stage 6
We have two missions for today's stage. First is for Davide to attack and secure the KoM jersey. The Cat.1 climb yesterday meant that the GC men cause more of the threat than anyone else in the competition, and Pozzovivo wears the jersey today.
Mission two is for Chaves to give it one last attempt at breaking into the Top 5 on GC. After the ITT on stage 4, many of the GC have faded on the climbs, so there might still be a good chance for the Colombian.
As planned, Villella was alert from the start, and didn't even wait for others to attack first. He was off up the road from the drop of the flag, and felt good about claiming the first points on the Cat. 2 climb.
We would be joined by 5 others out off the front, forming the day's breakaway, and with none of the riders caused a threat in the KoM classification, he comfortably took maximum points on the climb.
On the climb to the finish, the break still had over 5 minutes lead over the main peleton behind, so the winner would come from this group. Vanotti (Vodafone) attacked first, as Davide began to struggle.
As Vanotti soloed to the victory, things were happening on the lower slopes with the GC favourites. Van den Broeck attacked first, and Chaves followed in his wheel. A 45" gap quickly opened up, but was this going to be enough for the GC?

The KOM is there at the least, it's a shame though that Esteban couldn't crack the top 5. |

@fernando: He over took Gesink to go 6th on GC, but Van den Broeck finished ahead on the stage, so unable to get the Top 5

Tour de San Luis
Stage 7
Final stage in Argentina, and a chance for the sprinters to wrap things up. With the GC decided, baring any major incidents, it will 6th Overall for Chaves. Davide cannot be caught for the KoM jersey, so he can rest easy today.
Focus will shift back to Caleb although he did struggle through the climbs and might not be at his best for the finish.
Davide may have secured the KoM jersey but it did not stop him having a small attack at the start to take the points on the Cat. 3 climb. A nice celebration at the line as well, after his good week in the breaks.
Job done, Villella dropped back to the main pack as a large group of 8 attacked. A number of team set themselves up on the front of the peleton, keeping the escapees in check.
The break was still off the front approaching the finish and there was a sudden panic in the peleton. Orica opened the sprint early, putting many teams on the back foot.
Sagan (Cannondale) just grabs the line, catching Pauwels (Lotto) on the line. Caleb struggled to hit his top-end speed, finishing in 7th.

The sixth place from Chaves is nice, especially with those five big names in front of him. Also nice to see Villella winning the mountain jersey. Hopefully the team will do well in San Remo.
