The Winter of 2014
As we know, Roberto was a busy man, and the end of the season always meant a wave of news from his part. It was becoming some kind of trademark. Once the last race was over, people started looking out for news from Roberto. And 2014 was not an exception, there was good news, and there was bad news. We'll start with the good news:
In the off season, Roberto took a shot at track racing. In fact, he was quite successful, winning multiple races.

However, came January 2015:
It was fun, and good practice. I learned a lot and enjoyed myself, but I won't be returning to the track. Maybe I'll try some cyclo-cross next year, who knows.
Everyone saw this coming, even Roberto. He had prepared a nice speech when taking the cup:
I've had a brilliant season, and I couldn't have done it without the team and the manager. It was a long season, starting in Australia, but it was worth every drop of sweat. It was my first season without injuries, I hope I can have many more of that. (...) With these results I hope to help to fight against doping and making our beautiful sport trustworthy again. You can do it without doping, I know. Though you might not make it without doping against me (laughs)
Roberto "bought" Team Colombia Coldeportes but the Economical Crisis in Colombia had struck hard: the team would not continue. Roberto spent weeks going around the globe, looking for investors and managed to save the team, going with a whole new sponsor, East-European company Nelro.
Roberto still had much to decide in the sport-department, but Nelro managed the business side of the team full time. The new sponsor promised to respect all current contracts.
However, Nelro signed only a 1 year contract, so they didn't have the stability they wanted yet. At the start of the 2015 season, it was still unknown whether they'd continue with Nelro or not.
Some comments:
Roberto Velásquez:
Working with Nelro will be a positive experience, I believe. I look forward to it.
Rui Costa:
As long as I get my paycheck, I'm good (laughs). Seriously now, I don't think Colombia Coldeportes was the engine of the team, Roberto is, so I think he'll still give 100%. One thing, though, the shirt's ugly as hell. Luckily Roberto has his rainbow jersey and I have my National jersey! (laughs) |

Schedule 2015
Roberto Velásquez (at team presentation):
The team management have left me free to pick my own schedule for this year, and I'm grateful for that. Only one of the many reasons to think this new sponsorship will turn out to be something great.
I have chosen for a very French program. My purpose is to build up a bond with the country and the roads before attempting to win Tour de France. The second part of the season might still change a lot, but why don't I just tell you what I have so far:
I will start with GP de Marseille, Étoile de Bessèges and Tour de Haut-Var, three French races, to build up form. I will use this form to ride Paris - Nice. Then I will go on a training camp, returning to the peloton for GP Primavera, Circuit de Denain and the Ardennes Classics, hoping to finally win the Amstel!
Then it's on to the Dauphiné, the National Championship and then my very first Tour de France! And believe me, folks, I'm going for the win!
After the Tour, it's still a bit uncertain, but I'll probably ride GP san Sébastian, Classic Hamburg, Classiqué de Plouay, the two Canadian WT events, maybe GP de Namur and then the World Championships. The profile is hilly once again, and ambitious as I am, I want three on a row! I realize this will not be easy, but I will give it 100%, as I always do!
What might follow then, depending on the fatigue, is Lombardia and possibly Tour de Beijing. Thank you for your time. |

Rui Costa is a man of wise words - the new shirt is ugly! Haha
Nice schedule for next season, I'm sure he'll take France with storm
