By the way, what on earth is Liquigas working for? Relaying up the whole climb with their entire team, even Basso was up there for a while. And what happens? They come in with the group. No attacks, no anything.

Basso doesn't attack really, he just grinds people into the dust.
It still wasn't that smart a move leaving Basso isolated for 5km.
Especially as they will need their energy to tear things up tomorrow.

Well deserved for Andrey!
@cactus, well I think they did that to avoid atacks so that Basso would have to close any gaps today.

**** Great riding by Amador and De Marchi though..
It is still really open race, it seems like almost everybody in top 15 has a really solid chance on podium or top 5. But Hesjedal was really good today, nice to see him in pink again.

Bit surprised that De Gendt was in that first group, but the low gradients definately suited his characteristics. |

Who said Hesjedal would struggle again???
Its the first real big mountain stage, I think (just woke up, know nothing of the profile) and there is still a week left. Many more stages for him to struggle, although I was the one that though he would do alright in the mountains in the 3rd week.

It was impressive by Hesjedal, loads of time for stuff to happen.
But Hesjedal was good, very good.

Hejedal got away on the flat, it was good, but don't crow too loudly know, or it could come back to bite you.

umm nope. He escaped maybe 1km before the flat and got a decent gap.
Does it matter if he escaped on the flat or not? He took his opportunity and gained time. All part of the game. Smart riding.

No he didn't. There was 3.1 km remaining, still a km before the road leveled out.
Edit: Doddy beat me.

@cactus, well I think they did that to avoid atacks so that Basso would have to close any gaps today.
But if you want to avoid attacks you don't exhaust your whole team when there's still 5km to go. Sure, the last 2km were mostly flat, but the attacks would still come with 3km or less to go.
You will never see a major GC-contender attack with 15km of climbing to go.

Except for Contador (twice), Nibbles and Schleck, all from the last 12 months.

My point was that it didn't show he was the best climber, just that he attacked at the right time.
And apparently Cav didn't withdraw.

Same here, except my velogames team is ruined anyway.
