@Ollfardh: And with the ToB coming up it isn't even over yet!

Interview with Peter de Groote
Thanks to Ian Butler and those who sent in questions

You're obviously a bit new in Vacansoleil. Do you have problems settling in the team?
I haven't been experiencing real problems, but it's a big adjustment nonetheless. It takes some time to get used to it, but I'm getting there. Sometimes I miss the lads of Projob, though.

Could you tell us more about your expectations for the rest of the season?
This season is all about development. I'll be starting mainly as domestiques for some of the stronger guys in the team. But it's work like this that'll allow me to grow and to learn. If I can get a top 10 here and there,, that'd be great, though!

Do you have any personal goals for your next race?
Every race I start I have the same personal goal: I want to get the most out of it I can. Give it my all and see where I end up. And if there's a time trial, I'm always that little bit more motivated to go through the wall.

Do you notice differences between riding for a WorldTour team and a continental team?
There's a big difference, in everything you can imagine. The budget it larger, the goals more ambitious, the training more refined and the follow-up detailed. It's a whole operation to get from race to race in this team.

How is it to ride with Projob-Odfjell, but now against them?
I still carry Projob in my heart. But cycling is a hard profession, and now Vacansoleil are my employers, so I give my 100% to Vacansoleil and nobody else. It's nothing personal, but I admit it feels a bit weird.

Now you've raced for a WorldTour team, how long do you think it will last for you to pick up a victory?
That's hard to say. There are lads at the WorldTour that finish their career without a victory. I hope I can walk a different path, though. I'm very ambitious, but I can't put a date on it. I still have potential left and I hope to get that victory as soon as possible, but I'm not panicking (yet!)

Obviously the rest of the season is quite short. Do you have any expectations for the next season?
I'll have to see what the team direction has to say about next year's planning, but I'm happy to have a contract for next year. If things go as planned, I should get a few races to ride for my own skin. In those races, it'd be nice to climb the podium!

a nice read. not much to say about the results lately Frown

@SSJ: Not too much, but at least the team does get some experience at a higher level

August is one of the busiest months in the world of cycling. Many new transfers and sponsors have been announced, but the racing itself was spectacular as well with the start of La Vuelta as key element. On the WT-level the Tour of Poland, Eneco Tour and Vattenfall Cyclassics were raced as well.

The team are still in a good position in the Rankings Wink

what, what!, WHAT!

Schleck finished a race?
Schleck won a race?

this is getting far too unrealistic for my taste Pfft

Selwink
@Ollfardh, Schleck Fan: It can't always be perfect Smile
@sutty: Indeed. The points from Johnnie and Peter (dg) still have to be deducted though.
@SSJ: Well, PCM surprised me earlier on as well with Pichot winning P-R.

It doesn't seem too hard, but what we can't see on this profile is the extremely short and steep hill near the line.

Our squad
Björn Arvid is slowly losing shape. He's had his peaks and will race without pressure today.
Matthew Clarkson is a newbie, who needs to prove himself a little. No pressure though
Pieter Dubois also races without pressure, but will perhaps try something.
Kees Flodder finds his suitable type of race here. He's still quite inexperienced though, so he won't lead today.
Simon Holt is still in a good shape, and has his type of race here as a punchy sprinter. Likely one of our leaders.
Heiko Kalichmann is still in preparation, but if he's got a good day, who knows what can happen.
Peter Pal is usually our leader here. He's past his peak though, so he's here without pressure.
Timothy Raue is here to be a sort of domestique. He's got no pressure either.

Race report

Kees is part of today's break, together with Milne and Forke.
i40.photobucket.com/albums/e206/Selwink1/Projob%20odfjell/PCM1805_zpsa45ee1ba.jpg

With 30km to go Arredondo surprisingly attacks and gets a small gap. The break is still 1m30 ahead though.
i40.photobucket.com/albums/e206/Selwink1/Projob%20odfjell/PCM1806_zps79036a76.jpg

With 11km to go Kees is reeled in. Arredondo is just ahead of the pack. Milne is the leader and has a gap of 44 seconds.
i40.photobucket.com/albums/e206/Selwink1/Projob%20odfjell/PCM1807_zpsf84b7824.jpg

Milne eventually gets picked up with just 1km to go. Heiko and Björn are leading out Peter and Simon.
i40.photobucket.com/albums/e206/Selwink1/Projob%20odfjell/PCM1808_zps73e726f0.jpg

Coming out of the last corner Björn is still leading. Mucelli is second, but both Peter and Simon seem to accelerate past him.

Mucelli had the most power though. Peter comes 2nd, Mugerli 3rd. Björn and Simon also reach top-10, as 5th and 6th.

I'm glad Djaja got a top 10, but its interesting the team were going for him, when Kristian was still good in the final, but it seems to have worked.

Another nice podium for the team Wink, if only the finish line was a further one hundred metres away Frown

Sorry for the lack of updates. I'm currently quite busy for uni, and then away for the weekend. New update to come next week at its earliest

@TMM: And it's not even over yet!
@TheHobbit: Well, Kristian was blocked, so he couldn't find Djaja's wheel and continued on his own. Djaja was very strong as well, so we continued for him.
@sutty: If only...
@the_hoyle: The team has had a bad period, but we're getting back where we were.
@all: Sorry for having you wait. Story will definitely continue quite slow.

Race profile
i40.photobucket.com/albums/e206/Selwink1/Projob%20odfjell/PCM1822_zps43f1465b.jpg

Our squad
Matthew Clarkson is here to gain some more experience. Furthermore, he could be useful on the hillier sections.
Pieter Dubois is here to gain more and more kilometers.
Jonas Ek is here as a domestique for the final parts of the race mainly.
Kees Flodder will try to do his best here as well, although it will be hard with his inexperience.
Simon Holt is co-leader here. If the race is tougher than expected, he has a good sprint to support him over the short hills.
Heiko Kalichmann would be Simon's main help in that case. With a good punch he should be useful.
Djaja Susanto is our sprinter, in case he can hang on on the short hills. He has a good shape and will try to show that.
Floris Swings is also here to gain experience for his next, full, season.

Weather forecast
Sunny, warm for the time of the year, but also very windy.

Expectation
A good result will be hard, but we'll aim on a top-10.

Race report

Even though we tried we couldn't join the break, which consisted of 4 riders today.
i40.photobucket.com/albums/e206/Selwink1/Projob%20odfjell/PCM1824_zps26afe14a.jpg

Never having had more than 4m30 this break was doomed from the start. With 12km to go the final escapee, Lovelock-Fay is reeled in.
i40.photobucket.com/albums/e206/Selwink1/Projob%20odfjell/PCM1825_zpsce61f94d.jpg

Only one team managed to organise a sprint train. Jonas is leading out Simon and Djaja, who survived the hills very well.
i40.photobucket.com/albums/e206/Selwink1/Projob%20odfjell/PCM1826_zps3647340f.jpg

Other sprinters decided to go early, and with 1km to go they're all ahead of Djaja.

In the end

Djaja had to come from too far, and Groenewegen took the win. Djaja 9th and surprisingly Kees came 10th.

Nice that Djaja can handle the hills now, even if he didn't sprint to the maximum of his potential. Was he boxed in when everyone went early then?
