It is interesting to see Niemic doing so well by the way. It makes you wonder what he could have done with his career if he wasn't workking for other people for all of it.
He's had a captain role before, back at Miche, and he showed quality to contend in minor mountainous stage races like Trentino or Slovenia, and was also decent in the Italian autumn races.

Depends on the climber. Some only like a steady pace.
In fact I can't see a single GC contender in this Giro who does better with a speed up-slow down climb. Not even Scarponi.

Yay, Kelderman returns.
Only part 2 of my dream is left now, if Kelderman gets dropped, Majka and Betancur should get dropped as well
Spoiler No, don't burn me down now, I know that the chances of Betancur dropping are very slim

Pozzovivo? Not sure if qualifies as GC contender though.

Wasn't counting him, lost too much time already

What about Santambrogio? I know he's not really one of the top favourites, but he's a bit closer to the lead, at least.

Anyway, the day after a rest day is always a day off for somebody.
The question is which of these guys (Gesink, Hesjedal, Sánchez, Henao) are just suffering from that, are actually that bad, or just suffered on the first climb after the rest day and will be recovered for the finishing climb.

Yep, I hope he doesn't try to finish Giro just for the sake of being last year's winner.
