Although you didn't take the overal, still a great race with two stage wins and 4 riders in the top 6!

Thank you all:
- Not disappointed about Calabria, 2 stage wins and 4 in the top 6 is good.
- Races as Etruschi have always been difficult for me, so I'm still learning.

This weekend coming up: Tour of Qatar

From the South of Italy, to the deserts of filthy rich Qatar. 6 stages in the desert, with the first being a 2.5km prologue and 5 stages that traditionaly will end in a mass sprint, so a good sprinter with a good prologue will win this one.
img52.imageshack.us/img52/8590/parcours.jpg

Last year Alan Davis (Astana) won the Tour of Qatar, and he will try to defend his title.

Our team
img803.imageshack.us/img803/4546/ploeg.jpg

The favourites
*** Alex Rasmussen (Nespresso), Alan Davis (Qantas), John Degenkolb (M&M's)
** Greg Henderson (Astana), Robert Förster (United Health Care), Tomas Vaitkus (Qantas)
* Francisco Ventoso (Movistar), Theo Bos, Francesco Chicchi (Katusha)

Our goals
Getting a good GC-result will be very difficult in Qatar, as our sprinter Theo Bos totally lacks form (70). So we try to surprise in a breakaway and won't go for the GC.

The Tour of Qatar starts with a 2.5km prologue. This one won't create biggaps, so the sprinters will remain the favourites for the GC.
img225.imageshack.us/img225/5509/1route.jpg

3 riders finish in the same time (3'12) in 3rd place: Robert Partridge (Kingspan), Alex Rasmussen (Nespresso) and Lieuwe Westra.
img32.imageshack.us/img32/2082/1westra.jpg

Astana's Andriy Grivko is one second faster and will finish in the 2nd place.
img638.imageshack.us/img638/993/2grivko.jpg

But the win goes to Movistar. Ignatas Konovalovas takes the win with a time of 3'09.

Word from the DS
I think we can be satisfied with the 4th and 7th place. Now see if we can get in some breakaways!
imageshack.us/a/img171/3023/petronasmesig2.png

YvesStevens
I think sending someone in a breakaway would be uselus, you should focus on set up a good train, you have a team specialised for a win here

dienblad
Nah, don't think so. The train may be good, the sprinter is out of form (70). I think I'll go for the breakaway and let Theo Bos be wheelsucking another sprinter (Rasmusen?) to go for a win.
In races like these, you have to try some different tactics!

Stage 2, and the first "real stage". After the start in Dukhan, the peloton rides into the desert and after 144 kilometres they leave the sand for the finish in Al Khor Corniche. Prediction: mass sprint and the places 1-5 go to Qantas.
img839.imageshack.us/img839/2720/1carte.jpg

The first 60 kilometres, a lot of riders try to get in a breakaway. From our team, Sep Vanmarcke and Sébastien Rosseler try several times to set up a breakaway, but everytime the peloton closes the gap. The last time that that happens, is only a few kilometres before the first Intermediate sprint and that is a sign for Lieuwe Westra to attack. Not to form a breakaway, but to get 6 bonus seconds. He succeeds in it! Behind him, John Degenkolb (M&M's) and GC-leader Ignatas Konovalovas cross the line of the IS in 2nd and 3rd place.
img143.imageshack.us/img143/3805/2is1a.jpg

Shortly before the 2nd Intermediate sprint (43 kilometres before the finish), Astana's Kevin Seeldraeyers attacks and wins the points. Phillip Deignan (United Health Care) and Jack Bobridge jump behind him and collect the other points and seconds.
img193.imageshack.us/img193/3839/3is2.jpg

Finally a group can get away (or the peloton lets them). The 3 create (or are given) a maximum gap of 2'30, but when they approach Al Khor Corniche, the gap gets smaller. 20 kilometres to go and only 1'24.
img830.imageshack.us/img830/1161/420km.jpg

And with 15 kilometres to go, the peloton is together again. 2 teams are making the pace: M&M's (for Degenkolb) and Qantas (for the entire team).
img219.imageshack.us/img219/8995/55km.jpg

1200 metres before the finish, Allan Davis is leading out Matthew Goss. Theo Bos was in the wheel of Goss, but is loosing it, as the energy is fading very quickly.
img207.imageshack.us/img207/5346/61200m.jpg

And it's an easy first win for the Qantas team by Matthew Goss! Robbie McEwen takes the 2nd place, and Francisco José Ventoso the 3rd. Theo Bos looses a lot of places in the last kilometre, and finish in 13th position.
