Great post on the outgoings. Most of those riders have created a rich legacy intertwined with your team, but now must move elsewhere for the greater goal.

We hope we can give Stoltz the send-off into retirement that he deserves Smile

bbl - The striving for a new chapter is what drove the decisions this off-season. Hopefully that leads to new storys worth remembering

Abhi - Love that Stoltz found his way to you. Hope he can give himself a nice send-off for you!

We can confirm that we will continue for yet another season with our known jersey from the past couple of years. It's a timeless beauty originally designed by aidanvn13 and re-mastered by the_hoyle that we still love and don't want to replace yet.

French RR NC: Pierre-Henri Lecuisinier

After a couple of departures, we only have a single national champion in our roster for this season: Pierre-Henri Lecuisinier won the French Road Race championship. Ezeefreak provided us with a beautiful version of the tricolore jersey.

Miguel Angel Lopez70798471767474506678807172

Our new roster is spearheaded by the strongest leader duo in professional cycling. World class stage stage racer Pierre-Henri Lecuisinier and world class puncheur Miguel Angel Lopez are both arguably the strongest rider in the world on their terrain and will lead us wherever they will go.

Secondary Leaders

Krists Neilands77566963747370787167637167

Our star duo can only ride a limited number of races so we often have to rely on our other leaders to provide the scoring. Jan Polanc has proven himself as our cobbles leader last season and will continue in that role. Krists Neilands will remain his trusted co-leader there and will also lead us in flat classics throughout the year.

Andris Vosekalns and Martins Blums are obviously incredibly valuable support riders for our leaders but they will get chances to impress in GTs as our leaders too.

These are the riders that will often fill up the team in the flatter races. Kulppi and Havik are crucial domestiques for Polanc and Neilands on the cobbles while Becis will ride almost any classic. Thijssen is our lead sprinter this year.

Ansons and Dversnes are allrounders that will be useful in a lot of different ways with their versatility while Pszczolarski will also target most prologues.

Luke Plapp (LOAN_OUT) 697071706773695862677264711.022

This is our complete roster for the 2022 season. We are very happy with it eventhough we lost a lot of our scoring depth from the last few seasons but we achieved our main goals for the transfer season:
1. Buy Lecuisinier. Expensive but done.
2. Get younger. Not a single rider in our roster will decline at the end of the season.
3. Sign a big talent. We hoped to get at least one valuable top stage race talent and we came out with two of them as we got Krasts and Plapp.

A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Was it a conscious choice not going for a sprinter in the transfer window?

Was it a conscious choice to prevent me from getting a sprinter this year?

I'd say it was at least semi-conscious. I knew i would not want to invest into a top sprinter as that would be awkward salary cap wise / preferred to invest my cap elsewhere (assuming i would get Lecuisinier). I always planned to go with Dzamastagic and possibly someone like Stoltz for the flat classics and wanted a cheap option for the stage races. I took two fliers for Liepins and Reinhardt early on who i rate and who would have fit my team well. Unfortunately, you had similar plans there and got each for only 5k more...

I filled that role with Thijssen on a loan even if he is a bit weaker than other options but hopefully still good enough to join sprints some of the time (similar to what someone like Dakteris did in the past for me) while also giving me a much needed loan fee. But at that point, i was perfectly fine to go into a season with only Dzama + Thijssen.

Then Plapp got to a price where i had to sell three out of Dzamastagic, Budenieks, Borisavljevic, Neilands and Vosekalns. Dzamastagic is the oldest out of those and not from Latvia, so when i got a decent offer for him that put me close-ish to the Lecuisinier training, i kinda had to let him go.

At that point my cap+budget situation was so close that i was limited to min wage riders from FA and the market was basically empty. I think Itami was the best sprinter left on my list but i didnt want to go for a declining rider this year. Younger options such as Sandis Eislers didnt seem to make sense with my roster composition either.

I could have gone for Antonijevics and there were trade talks including him but i figured that Mestric would fit my team a lot better. Had i known that he would be sacked later, i probably would have taken him as another part of that trade as a budget Dzamastagic replacement but once he hit free agency he got too expensive for my situation.

So now i'm stuck with only Neilands and Havik for the flat classics and Thijssen as stage race sprinter. Worse situation than i hoped to be in, but as i see it as a rebuild season, i'm perfectly fine with that. The only situation where i would regret the decision is when i slip into the relegation fight which would be very worrying for lots of other reasons.

That PHL NC jersey is beautiful, great work from Ezeefreak.

Appreciate the insight into your team building logic. Bringing Plapp and Krasts gives you a very nice platform for the future.

Love the way you have the Latvians as the backbone of the roster and a big fan of Blums particularly.

Always love to explain my logic behind managerial decisions. If you ever wonder about any of my moves, just ask for a rant about it Pfft

Blums seems to be vary popular. Had to decline very lucrative offers for him last year and this year too. His value as lieutenant for both mountains and hills make him basically the most important rider to keep for the next couple of years alongside my two big leaders. If i were to make an early availability announcement for next years transfers, I'd say him, Lecuisinier and Lopez are the three untradable guys (Krasts probably too). Everyone else could be available for the right offer at the right time Pfft

Lecuisinier wins Giro d'Italia

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/GTM/Giro/S21/podiump.jpg

Pierre-Henri Lecuisinier wins the Giro d'Italia 2022. He sprinted into the maglia rosa on stage seven and defended it throughout the remainder of the race. Few ever questioned his winning chances as he had started the race as the big favourite and continued to gain time on all of his rivals and ended with a winning margin of 5'29 over stage racing prodigy Egan Bernal and Pavel Sivakov.

Lecuisinier has now completed the treble of winning all three GTs after already winning the Vuelta in 2020 and the Tour in 2021 with his previous team Festina. He joins Andy Schleck, Aleksandr Pluchkin, Rein Taaramäe and Silvio Herklotz in the elite club of riders to have achieved this impressive feat.

However, Evonik as a team has not achieved this yet as the only previous Grand Tour victory was Rein Taaramae's Vuelta a Espana success last season. Maybe that could change in the future?

Congrats! Ambitious goal with the tour win, hope that means you'll rather spend training funds on him than your lead puncheur. Smile

Congratulations on the resounding Grand Tour win for PHL on an iconic parcours. Very cool moment for the team and for him completing his career triple fairly early on and now free to chase even further glory, doing it all twice, specialising in one or just going for pure numbers, all there for him and the team.
