Opening weekend
26/02/2022 Omloop Het Nieuwsblad WT2
26/02/2022 Faun-Ardèche Classic CT2
27/02/2022 Kuurne - Brussel - Kuurne CT1
27/02/2022 La Drôme Classic CT2
Say what you want, but this is when the cycling season really begins. For our first round we have a busy weekend with double headliners in Belgium and France. Omloop is considered to be the biggest race, as both the startlist and the point scale confirm, but how will you play it? Will you focus on the big race with the big points or do you see a chance in France?
Deadline saturday morning 10u00 normal europe time for your 8 riders for the first block of races.
If you're wondering who rides where, I feel procyclingstats is usualy pretty accurate. At the moment the french races are still a bit empty but check back in later this week.
Due to corona there might be some changes in the startlists very close to the race (Dylan Teuns cancelled for the opening weekend this afternoon, fml), so feel free to make changes where necessary. It would be easiest for me if you just make a new post each time you need to make a change.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Mostly happy with my picks. Clarke would have been cool, but Stybar was #1 on my list anyway. No clue what he still is able to do on the cobbles, but it can't be wrong to have him I guess.
Haussler was on the list because he should be riding pretty much all cobbled races, and he's got the potential for a couple of good results.
Battistella is a wildcard pick, don't even know where he'll be racing. Furthermore, he DNF in Algarve, no clue why this was - after having taken a very strong 2nd place on stage 2.
Now, waiting to see who will finally be on the startlists in France and Belgium, and looking forward to the races!

Nice, don't even have one rider attending the two French races

Wout Van Aert
Sonny Colbrelli
Bryan Coquard
Victor Campenaerts
Alessandro Covi
Anthony Turgis
Ivan Garcia Cortina
Tosh Van Der Sande

Exactly 8 riders at the start in any of those races (as of now), so an easy squad for block 1
Marcovdw Bananas, block 1:
Andrea Bagioli
Dorian Godon
Fabio Jakobsen
Ide Schelling
Jasper Stuyven
Matej Mohoric
Ryan Gibbons
Timoty Dupont

Roughnecks - Block 1
Kasper Asgreen
Mark Cavendish
Tiesj Benoot
Jake Stewart
Connor Swift
Sven Erik Bystrom
Adrien Petit
Caleb Ewan
Honore & Walscheid could have made it, but feel more comfortable with Bystrom & Petit as they are in two or the 4 vs only one.

Might as well give my names, the startlist look filled up at the moment. I left out De Plus despite him doing both Omloop and Kuurne. I guess Ineos lost faith in him, demoting him to a cobbles domestique. Also no Gilbert, I might regret that.
Hugo Hofstetter
Edward Theuns
Jordi Meeus
Matteo Trentin
Florian Vermeersch
Julian Alaphilippe
Alexander Kristoff
Markus Hoelgaard

Also a reminder that Block 2 will come very fast after the opening weekend, that deadline will be tuesday morning.

BBL's Bombers - Block 1
Florian Senechal
Biniam Girmay Hailu
Guillaume Boivin
Luc Wirtgen
Christophe Laporte
Alex Aranburu
Brandon McNulty
Dylan Van Baarle
I think after going hard on cobbles early, I went to heavy on climbers/puncheurs late. Van Baarle not racing this weekend doesn't help.

Fab's Fainthearts - Block 1
Warren Barguil
Luca Mozzato
Sep Vanmarcke
Jonas Vingegaard
Mauro Schmid
Clément Champoussin
Zdenek Stybar
Heinrich Haussler
In the end it was Rota vs Schmid, but with the former just kicking off the season and the latter having some pretty good results already, it was an easy one.
However, sucks that Battistella - who was on the start lists for the French races this morning - is out due to an injury (which I was afraid of after he DNF in Algarve). So it's 50% cobbles, 50% hills - let's get started!
And yeah, my picks from R1-5 have all decided to stay away, so probably not a great start ^^

Difficult to decide who to leave out I'll go with this lineup:
Thomas Pidcock
Tim Merlier
Tim Wellens
Mauri Vansevenant
Gianni Moscon
Tom Van Asbroeck
Mike Teunissen
Kevin Geniets
Hope I won't be disappointed by picking Wellens over other riders. |

Declercq will probably miss the entire Classics season. Is there a chance I can still pick a replacement? |

I'm a bit torn about this as no doubt crashes or health issues will definitely take out some other riders as well later on. What does everyone think about this?
PS: Winged Hussars still missing for the opening weekend.

I think giving everyone one/two opportunities to do a change anytime they want seems fair, obviously 'between' blocks, not during one. With other rules maybe including they have to be 'out' due to a crash/injury, and you can't transfer a rider you removed back in?

Okay let me know when you decided.
In my opinion it wouldn't really be unfair or anything because it's still before the first race. |

I'm fine with allowing it if there's some restrictions such as Nemo proposed.
- Can't replace a rider immediately if they're racing in a current block. They don't become active until the next block.
- Can't re-sign a rider that you released due to injury.
- Maybe a rider have to be confirmed to be missing races with injury, and you have to give an article or something as evidence (only because otherwise there would be unlimited transfers essentially. Lots of riders crash out of classics but end up being fine going forward).
I don't necessarily think this being before the first race should matter. Same rules could apply season wide.

Guess my view is counter to most, but we drafted 16 riders for a reason. If you lose riders to injury, bad luck. You can change your selection at the next block as you would do if someone was riding badly or not selected to start certain races.
