Tour de Suisse - Discussion

Good work by the team in the ITT, now it's about holding those places on the final stage and maybe attacking Gidich for white.

The worst stage of the race for us - still 6 points scored though.

Aidan losing the U25 was always very likely to happen. I would very much like to see him attack tomorrow to see if he can keep as high as possible (A top 3 would be very nice) - and in the ideal situation he would take compatriot Giannoutsos with him in the attempt to keep a good KOM result. With both Herklotz and Madrazo smashing into the top 3 there it's a matter of time before the jersey is lost - Unfortunately that is going to happen on the very last stage. It would have been a very nice historical result for my new greek GC hope to already snatch a top result in a GC race.

Bongiorno could have done a bit more in that TT. He should be able to fight off the likes of Warchol, Costagli and Velits I think. He is OK (but not great) in TT, but have a very strong combination of MO, HI, RES and REC that should tip in his favor. That said it is probably 30-40 seconds at most, and that wouldn't have changed much in the GC.

14th for now with only Shikai behind that should be able to overtake him is decent. I can only hope for another aggressive ride - by most of my riders - to see what could be possibly gained in the end. If we could close the race with 300+ points it would be a massive achievement!

Let's just get over with this race. Hopefully aggressive with Vosekalns joining the break ...

Good TT by Madrazo. Would be cool if he could put Herklotz under pressure on the final stage.

Decent stage by Iturria. Crossing my fingers for him to get in the break now.

Happy to get a stage win!
It's unlikely that Madrazo can grab the lead tomorrow, but you never know. Let's just try, Angel

Morton got roasted by Hirt. Not sure, if he deserves that 3rd place in the GC, that he you can't miss, actually. Lame results for us here, though.

Thanks for the reports!

That really wasn’t a very smart team effort. Having a great KOM position and then not even try to defend it. Having put either Giannoutsos or Van Niekerk in the break would have almost guaranteed the jersey. Having either Zoidl or Bongiorno try to interfere with points early on would have atleast kept Velits from overtaking Giannoutsos. I didn’t hope to see him drop as far back as 4th, but only have ourselves to blame.

Bongiorno tried to make the most from race but just doesn’t have the strength this season. Still coming away from the race in 15th + a 4th place on a stage is a decent result indeed. We took a lot of points from this race as a whole so we have to be very happy. Aidan almost making up for not having done so the entire season from this race alone.

Congrats on the top results to the other guys and thanks a lot for the very solid reports!

Finally a strong effort by an evonik duo. it wasn't meant to be and that's okay but we end up with a disappointing race where we score barely any non-finishing points at all. gotta hope that the dauphin will be better to not lose too much ground in this month.

We tried again, which was good to see.

Congratulations to cio93 and SotD on huge races. Also the AI worked well here regarding the GC, I'd say, which was nice Smile

Also thank you for your consistent reporting, Ulrich! I've enjoyed it all the way.

What a fantastic ride by Velits. Finally he had one of these great days he struggled to have in the two GTs.
A pity the peloton went for it as otherwise it would have been KoM and stage.

3rd KoM and 10th is less points but still nice late in his career.

Koep again with a strong ride there being again stronger than Ciccone weirdly.

Thanks for the reports and congrats Cio. Herklotz just the very best. Would be interesting to see him against Lecuisinier to really see who is best.

Happy that Iturria tried. That was my hope, but unfortunately didn't go as hoped this time. On to the next one!

Not a good stage for us, Roman should've taken that chance for white and also Roglic loosing a spot is not perfect.

Yeah and Gidich shouldn't have dropped back and sacrifice his own chances to support his pathetic team captain. I don't think you can complain about Roman getting 2nd in the U25 classification.

Besides the white jersey for Gidich the only good thing about this race is that it was Reis' last one this season (and probably for my team). Not having to see him in races will save me from a lot of frustration. He had a very good chance to get a good GC result here in the last stage, but fails yet again. He would've been 6th if he had finished with Shikai, but it seems like those two can't have a good result at the same time. This performance meant also team mates dropped GC places and we also lost our good position in the team classification.

Thanks Ulrich for the great reports and also for showing my team a lot, although it's tough to see when my 81 MO leader is dropped as soon as the road rises and has to be helped back by a 57 MO climber.

Finally, congrats cio on a very dominant performance by Herklotz!

Silvio Herklotz, I love you <3

A gorgeous race from start til finish, with the only points we lost out on being the break taking stage 3 and the jersey.

Three stage wins, three jerseys and the teams classification is about as good a result as we've ever gotten from any non-GT race in our history, and likely will ever get, so today's a day for the history books for Puma.

This should set us up perfectly for the Tour with the biggest motivation boost possible, and even if we can't quite replicate the performance there, it makes 2020 a successful season for Herklotz already after some disappointment in the classics.

I'm really happy to have seen the hill training have its first visible effects, with at least the win on stage 5 being significantly aided by it, and the strategy of 84mo being enough to stay in the wheels until Herklotz can utilize his punch in the last k looked great here and could be adopted as is for the foreseeable future if we can continue to find races that suit this style.
And there might be more to come. Wink

Our support squad showed up well here too, with Stüssi and Vasyliv sharing chase and protection duties among themselves rather well as far into the mountains as necessary (and obviously contributing to the teams classification win!), and Bevin doing fine as that intermediate piece as always.
Ganna and Cavagna didn't look too bothered by the climbing either, and our two TTers were actually quite far from the bottom of the results as well.
With the wage demands of our leaders, it's unlikely Herklotz will ever get much more help than this, and it's reassuring to see that suffice at least here.

I want to sincerely thank DD for putting up a great fight, we'll meet again soon and I'll eagerly await your attempt at revenge! Smile
Morton certainly wants to give it a shot at the TdF as well, and while I obviously want him to stay behind, it would improve the racing to have him a bit closer to the top.

A special thank you goes to the AI for allowing this duel to play out so well, that was great racing and no GC favorite benefitted from any luck or weird situations. Just an honest fight on the road on every stage that mattered.
And we got a couple of the wins back that we gifted to breaks in the Giro. Pfft

Finally, of course I thank Ulrich for your impeccable reporting job, how fitting that Ulrich reports on the new Ullrich! Pfft

On paper Roman is the best u25-climber in this race, so there is a reasoning behind this my friend.

The best climber, yes, the best GC rider for this race - probably not:
Gidich is 75MO, 78HI and 73TT
Roman is 77MO, 75HI and 64TT

I can see why Gidich would finish above Roman Smile

That said, I can understand your frustration! I would have liked to see Aidan take the win too, and he wasn't that far off due to aggressive riding.

I can understand that about the race in general but when only looking at the last stage Roman would've only won the white jersey due to Reis' unfortunate attitude towards competitive bicycle racing. I was already a little bit annoyed about that after reading the race report when entering the discussion thread, so I guess it was quite easy to trigger me. Pfft

In the races I do it seems like King Power are always up to something report worthy.

If we had worked for Shikai instead of Kratochvila on stage 5, and he hadn't lost 3mins, Shikai would have had a very good race. Not happy with the result here, but one stage away from being a good race basically. Dont know why the peloton wouldn't let Costagli attack, but it is what it is.

Thanks for the reports.
