Gratz on getting three goals out of 4 so far, Keizer certainly delivered with his upgrades. Duo Differange shoulda coulda been a secure goal as well but who knew that PCM14 would be so freaky in MG TTs

Well done with your goals then. Too bad that TTs are less predictable now (did/will hurt my goals as well). But at least it's no huge miss as 4th.
Ah, I hate TTs now About time to change our focus next season..

Thanks all.
To be honest, those goals weren`t the hardest actually.
But coming from a 0/5 year, I thought it would be good to get 5/5 or at least 4/5. So I am happy it worked with a bit reduced budget then. |

Quite successful in the goal races. It looks as if Keizers mountain training paid off!
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Our young talents have made an important step in their career. Some made their last fine tunings, others are still in the middle of it and one (Groenewegen) stagnates but is said to give it a bit more next year to avoid a total stagnation.
Let`s start with our biggest prospect. Daan Olivier might be no immediate top star but his palmares is already pretty well filled including podiums in Avenir or a couple of good GC`s this season. And without a doubt he has a nice skillset to also play a nice role next season. | Fl | Mo | Hi | TT | Sta | Res | Rec | Cob | Spr | Acc | Fig | Dh | Prl | | 2015 | 71 | 77 | 74 | 67 | 74 | 78 | 75 | 59 | 64 | 70 | 70 | 71 | 67 | 4.84 | 2016 | 72 | 79 | 75 | 69 | 76 | 80 | 77 | 59 | 64 | 71 | 70 | 71 | 69 | Max |
Davide Villella joined our team in the same year as Olivier but had a direct loan trip to the CT back in 2013. Since then he improved a lot and convinces with a great kick on hilly stages. The great acceleration surely will help him as he lacks the top puncheur skills of others. More results as in Bayern this year are hopefully coming. | Fl | Mo | Hi | TT | Sta | Res | Rec | Cob | Spr | Acc | Fig | Dh | Prl | | 2015 | 71 | 63 | 75 | 61 | 70 | 73 | 66 | 63 | 64 | 78 | 73 | 70 | 61 | 4.74 | 2016 | 72 | 64 | 77 | 61 | 72 | 74 | 67 | 63 | 65 | 80 | 74 | 70 | 61 | Max |
And the last of our golden generation of 2013. Kristian Sbaragli will be a very nice rider in future. Already since year 1 he is showing some nice skills the harder the race gets. He is an excellent leadout rider and also of great support in cobbled races. Unfortunately with Groenewegen`s stagnation, his leadout skills might not be asked a lot next season. | Fl | Mo | Hi | TT | Sta | Res | Rec | Cob | Spr | Acc | Fig | Dh | Prl | | 2015 | 74 | 56 | 66 | 62 | 74 | 69 | 75 | 71 | 75 | 76 | 58 | 61 | 62 | 4.71 | 2016 | 76 | 56 | 67 | 62 | 76 | 70 | 79 | 72 | 77 | 78 | 58 | 61 | 62 | Max |
Frederik Frison or the absoutely unknown U23 Road World Champion also made his last step. He joined almost two years ago in a swap deal with Bpost for the more-ready Van Aelbroeck. For us it was a long term trade and now we have the much stronger of those two. He is a very solid TTT rider and might get a couple of individual results himself as well. | Fl | Mo | Hi | TT | Sta | Res | Rec | Cob | Spr | Acc | Fig | Dh | Prl | | 2015 | 70 | 54 | 66 | 75 | 71 | 70 | 65 | 54 | 65 | 65 | 63 | 67 | 75 | 4.87 | 2016 | 71 | 56 | 67 | 77 | 73 | 71 | 67 | 54 | 65 | 65 | 63 | 67 | 77 | Max |
Is it allowed to call this signing a long term signing? Possible no! More than once Maximillian Schachmann was half a foot out of the team already but somehow it only came to loan deals and even last year when he was secured to leave, he then decided to win the German NC. Next year as maxed rider he might have more or less good chances to play a role in the team as support rider. | Fl | Mo | Hi | TT | Sta | Res | Rec | Cob | Spr | Acc | Fig | Dh | Prl | | 2015 | 65 | 66 | 73 | 56 | 72 | 68 | 63 | 58 | 68 | 76 | 70 | 75 | 56 | 4.02 | 2016 | 66 | 67 | 75 | 56 | 74 | 69 | 64 | 58 | 69 | 78 | 72 | 76 | 56 | Max |
A few similarities to Schachmann actually when it comes to Florian Scheit. Once with the team in 2012 he never really found a way to develop properly. After making a team change and surprisingly rejoining again this season, he now at least made another step but is not maxed yet. Also the a bit similar to Schachmann but with a bit potential left. | Fl | Mo | Hi | TT | Sta | Res | Rec | Cob | Spr | Acc | Fig | Dh | Prl | | 2015 | 65 | 67 | 71 | 57 | 70 | 69 | 65 | 50 | 64 | 67 | 72 | 65 | 57 | 3.50 | 2016 | 66 | 70 | 74 | 58 | 71 | 70 | 67 | 50 | 64 | 69 | 75 | 66 | 58 | 4.10 | 2017 | 66 | 72 | 76 | 58 | 72 | 71 | 69 | 50 | 64 | 71 | 77 | 66 | 58 | Max |
Jasper Bovenhuis was the only talent addition we made this year next to Scheit. The talented cobbler is also an option for tougher classics as he likes the hills as well. Not a world breaker, but a nice support to have for Vanmarcke next year. | Fl | Mo | Hi | TT | Sta | Res | Rec | Cob | Spr | Acc | Fig | Dh | Prl | | 2015 | 70 | 58 | 68 | 59 | 71 | 68 | 70 | 70 | 62 | 68 | 75 | 64 | 59 | 3.0 | 2016 | 72 | 58 | 70 | 59 | 73 | 69 | 71 | 72 | 62 | 68 | 78 | 65 | 59 | 4.02 | 2017 | 73 | 58 | 71 | 59 | 74 | 70 | 72 | 74 | 62 | 68 | 79 | 65 | 59 | Max |
Seeing that all but 3 (Groenewegen, Scheit, Bovenhuis) are maxed now and those three in their very last step at level 4, surely the addition of some talent is important, when it comes to transfers.

Aegon - Lavazza back to the Pro Tour
The team finds itself back in the MG Pro Tour after being relegated after the 2014 season. It was the obvious goal and the riders really went the step with us in a dominant way. Not only taking a safe promotion spot but also they delivered some huge performances to win the PCT title to end the most successful season in the team`s history.
Win | Duo Differdange (4th, Keizer/Schädlich) | C1 | 4 | Top 5 | Tour of Vancouver (3rd, Keizer) | HC | 4 | Top 5 | Corsica International (4th, Keizer) | HC | 4 | Top 5 | Volta a Catalunya (3rd, Keizer) | C1 | 3 | Top 5 | PCT Team Standings (1st) | - | 5 |
To be honest. Those goals might have been not the toughest ones and completing 4/5 is okay but we had hoped to make it 100%. Unfortunately our TT duo was hit hard in the best suited race all year and failed quite a bit. Other than that it was the team leader himself delivering 3 successful goals as also being a big reason for the standing goal.

It was really close and at times I did not believe, we would win the title. But several of our riders then showed some overperformances to create another gap.
Still it was thrilling until the last race as our riders showed a no-show in both final classics. Good for us that also our colleagues from Gazelle and Puma couldn`t really deliver there and while they had it earned just as much, it`s a nice bonus for our team.

Our 3 main leaders Keizer, Boom and Vanmarcke all scored on a high percentage and with a point/wage ratio of above 2/1k€, which is really nice as this delivered more or less 1/2 of all points. Also it must be said that thanks to Boom`s and Vanmarcke`s readiness to take a shorter wage, allowed us to sign Groenewegen, who did really found his rythm late in the season to become our 3rd best scorer, mainly due to his win in Paris-Tours.
Behind them we are pleased to see our young talent Olivier already with a nice amount of points as also the surprise rider of the year in Bazzana, who has by far our best ratio.
Riders like Schädlich, Aru surely have some room left but also delivered nicely.

Martijn Keizer not able to win a stage but due to consistency winning the Tour d'Andorra. First GC win in the team`s history!
Lars Boom sprints to glory in the Viana do Castelo beating PCT top cobbler Summerhill.
Hopefully the first of many to come. Dylan Groenewegen wins Paris-Tours a bit surprisingly. |

Great review of great season for Aegon, congrats for bringing home the PCT title!
As with PT winner, or even more, depth is what brought you the glory, seeing that Keijzer is only 9th in individual rankings and Boom 29th as second best. But likes of Bazzana and Olivier certainly punched above their expected weight and amount of riders in top250 of individual rankings is stunning.
I am interested in how you will tackle the off season, one more try with depth, or one strong leader? Good luck, i will be happy to race against you after two years break.
Btw. the goal you failed shows again how weird TTs were in 2015 season.

What about big leader plus depth?
All planning more or less though needs to wait until the renewals as I fear about Keizer`s new wage. Also Olivier should go nicely up, while I need to try to get Groenewegen as far down as possible. Obviously his Paris-Tours win does not help in this part. |

As already sakd, congrats on the title. It'll be interesting to see what you do in transfers this time around, but I somehow think you won't be overly involved in the relegation fight.
Oh and it's a shame to see Krieger go up, looks like his battle (or should we even call it that? He was annihilated after all ) with Bennett is over for the time being.

Welcome back mate! It's really nice to see that you made such a comfortable promotion, and I am looking forward to see you staying up this time.
Last time you failed in having a clear point scoring leader, so I hope you won't make that mistake again, as it was exactly what made you promote...
Keizer could still make an impact in the PT, and Olivier should be good for some top 15 GC results and some U25 points. Lars Boom is obviously still a good guy, also on PT level, but the competition is tougher than last time he was up, and he can't be trained. Sep Vanmarcke should be able to get a few top 10s, but mostly top 15s I suspect with a lot of good cobblers getting a bit better this off season. I hope Dylan Groenewegen can be competitive at PT level, but I guess he needs to be trained before really kicking in.
So the depth is great, like last time. Now to secure a real top guy, and you should be doing well

Thanks for your comments. Really happy to be back in the PT.
Season Review: Maxed Talents
In between 2014 and 2015 we had four riders that maxed out and now have finished their first year in their prime. Those were Alexander Krieger, Thomas Koep, Tom Dumoulin and Björn Thurau. First two even were already part of our 2012 debut season.
Now we will check their first prime season and rate their process.
Alexander Krieger 24 years
The young German sprinter has a tough season behind him as he once again was mainly a support rider in most races. Most times he had to work for Dylan Groenewegen, who is expected to be the quicker rider in a sprint final. So opportunities were rare, but let`s see what he made in those.
In 4 Stage Races Alex had the chance to show his qualities. To make it short, the HC fields in the Bayern Rundfahrt and 5 Jours de Dunkerque were too tough for him as the PCT field had a very high depth on the top. Also the trip to the Volta a Catalunya was more for the stage racers. So he couldn`t show himself.
But the season luckily had a nice start for him. The first 3 stages in the Vuelta al Tachira were pan flat and saw a decent sprinter field around Avelino, Bouhanni and Keukeleire. In such field it was a perfect opportunity for him to find his rhytm. He sprinted into the top10 in all those stages but the clear highlight was the first career win on the 2nd stage.
Win | Vuelta al Tachira | Stage 2 | Top 10 | Vuelta al Tachira | Stages 1&3 |
Rating: 5/10 (26 pts)
Clearly he has room left and hopefully can repeat the performance of the first Tachira stages. Other than that his leadout skills should also come handy in future when having a stronger lead sprinter.
Thomas Koep 25 years
Thomas Koep in his 4th pro season went into the 2nd on loan. This time though not into the Pro Tour but instead to the lower Continental Division to get the chance to lead a team himself. At least this was the thought behind the move.
Unfortunately though his lack of acceleration proved to be too much an issue to really be competive even on that level. Stage results were super rare and also GC results are mainly in the late top20. So a very low scoring option, that has realized that he is more a support rider.
A bit unlucky for him though was the start of the year, when he just showed nice skills in the Middle East Tour before crashing out just the day after. Apparently since then he never really found his legs again. His biggest result then also was not for Carlsberg but instead for the German National Team, when he was part of the TTT squad at the Worlds going for a good 5th there as also a couple of U25 podiums. Stage top10`s mainly were in his main strength: Mountain/Hilly Timetrials.
15th | Giro de Capo | 19th | Tatranska Classic | 20th | Tour de Langkawi | 18th | Giro del Trentino |
Rating: 2/10
He somehow was consistent. But always behind expectations unfortunately. Next year in the PT he clearly won`t have chances to go for himself very often. Herlper tasks and breakaway is his kind of racing.
Tom Dumoulin 25 years
Tom Dumoulin was in his 2nd season for the team. As pure time trialist he had a simple job. Supporting our TTT squad in many races as also going for ITT results himself.
And the Dutch did exactly this. It was incredible to see him performing on such a high level this early in his career. Next to taking the U25 jersey in Denmark, he also got several top10 results in time trials himself.
He was part of our TTT podium in the Monterrey TTT event and also our TT motor in the TTT win in the Olympia`s Tour. While some of our veterans seemed to be inconsistent in some TT`s, he possibly was one of the most consistent. Hopefully he can keep that level up in the next years. Only his attempt to join the breaks surely could be worked on.

A podium in an ITT was highlight next to the U25 win. Also a couple of top10`s in stages and GC`s made it a very nice season overall for him. With 118 points, he was the most successful of this review and our 9th best scorer in the team.
Björn Thurau 27 years
With 27 years of age, Thurau possibly is no longer one of those young talents. Still he developed rather late but now had his first prime season. While the feeling was often, that he underperformed, the results in the end speak for itself. His season surely was no disappointment.
Due to our 2nd tier hill squad, he struggled to get many GC points. Also he had to share the leadership with Villella very often or in some races with Boom, Olivier, Bazzana. Hence his scoring came elsewhere.
As one of our top breakaway riders he tried it several times this year. Unfortunately without the biggest success a lot of times. Though one day was special and it was in his home race Bayern Rundfahrt. On the last stage there he found the way into the break, where he not only finished 2nd, but also went into the KoM and Point Jersey. Great showing by him in one of our important sponsor races.
His best classic result was a 16th in the Nelspruit Classic. In most others the competition was too tough to score really.

He showed the right spirit with several attacks. Unfortunately only once it was successful and while missing the stage win closely, he won 2 jerseys. If he can work on his attempts to find the correct time for a breakaway, he should also be a fun rider to watch next season. |
