Carapaz finishes top ten in l'Avenir
It is that time of the year again where our youngsters (U23 riders) take the trip to France and enters the Tour de france for youth.
We had 3 riders eligible in Benito, Villalobos and our strongest GC-shot in Carapaz. Thanks to some agressive racing from Carapaz side, he was at 7th place in the GC before the final stage. In that decisive mountain stage Herklotz and some other semi-dangrous GC riders entered the break and not too surprisingly stayed away. That would see Carapaz slip back to 10th, which is still a very respectable result. Due to his birthday comming a few months early, he is unable to return to the race next year, which is a big shame.
GC
1 | Lachlan Morton | Oz Cycling Project | 35h58'28 | 2 | Pierre-Henri Lecuisinier | Festina-Canal+ | + 31 | 3 | Chen Shikai | Meiji - JR East | + 2'44 | ... | 10 | Richard Antonio Carapaz | ONCE-Eroski | + 12'50 |

2nd week of ToA done..Signs of better things to come
Anton fading after wasting to much energy with too many attacks yet again
After a really slow start to the Tour of America, things are now beginning to look slightly brighter for us. We have participated in tons of breaks and Anton actually stayed alert and showed some agressive racing. Now he has climbed all the way up to 4th place and got the podium in sight.
The downside is that we still haven't gotten a stage win and Anton is struggling massively with closing the gap down to the current podium.
Anyway, we remaign hopefull and belive the third week is were Anton will shine and bring performances/results that matches his actuall skill!

Rider Progression
The team existence is close to 3 years of straight running in the game and along the way, we have picked up a few interesting prospects. Two of them are reaching their max already now. Until last year however, we barely picked up any talented youngsters.
Richard Antonio Carapaz
Arguably our biggest talent. We just had to get him when we first scouted him him. Will turn into a strong PCT-leader in mountainous stage races.
XP: 3.09 -> 4.45
Tom Jelte Slagter
One of the two only talents from your first year, 2013. Such joy to finally see him max! Will turn into a strong hilly/mountain rider, one of few riders who are very valuable in all divisions imo.
XP: 4.05 -> Max
Clever Cuasquer
Brought in for company for Carapaz. Will also be a decent mountain domestiqe himself.
XP: 4.50 -> Max
Pablo Mudarra
The other talent we picked up in year 1. Decent rider for the hills, might get some decent results here and there. Also from our targeted nation Costa Rica.
XP: 4.07 -> Max
Thomas Bonnin
Another mountain domestique at PCT-level. Bonnin is our only french rider and it's unlikely that he will get some home-company very soon. Should be a great rider for our planned mountain train!
XP: 3.14 -> 4.43
Miguel Angel Benito
One of our better spanish talents. Will turn into a very decent tour domestique with good overall abillity. Important for a very spanish based team.
XP: 3.06 -> 4.08
Jesús Herrada
Some might say he's the slightly less talented brother. But still a solid rider for our spanish mountain train.
XP: 3.31 -> 4.09
Aberlardo Ablenado
Super mountain-helper from the right nation. What more could you ask for?
Aberlardo can do decent in hunt for his own results or be a delux-helper in some key races.
XP: 4.99 -> Max
Mario Gonzalez Salas
One of the better spanish TT-ists around. Will be a vital man for the TTTs and can hunt for some decent results in single TTs or TT-heavy races.
XP: 4.99 -> Max
PS: The only two talents we didnt include in this update was Miguel Minguez Ayala and Nejd Kozic. Miguel werent includet since he failed to progress, and while Nejd managed to do so, its unlikely that he will be staying with us for next season, so not interesting looking at his development then.

Out of all those 4, only one is likely to leave
That is unsuprisngly the frenchie. Surprised I got Salas as cheap as 80k in the previous transfer, such a sweet rider to pick up at close to max.

Tour of America - Last week done
Berhane proved the strongest and took the race on stage 20 from Lovkvist
Tour of America of was pre-race one of the most anticipated races all season long for our boys. Eventhough we participated in many breaks and Anton showed plenty of agressivity, the results didnt really show and bring justice to our racing. Anton got a total of one podium during the whole three weeks of racing while ending on the last podium step at on the end. The biggest dissapointment was however to never see Anton in the victory fight as he was expected to be.
1 | Natnael Berhane | Eritel - Sonatrach | 77h38'32 | 2 | Thomas Lövkvist | Swedbank-PEAB | + 23 | 3 | Igor Antón | ONCE-Eroski | + 1'59 |
Race Rating: 8/10 Would be a ten if Anton reached pre-race goal of ending either 1-2nd in GC + stage win as minimum. Shouldn't blame the guy for not trying though! Also apparance in many breaks was nice to see.

Brajkovic rounds off an amazing season.
The boy sprinting to 3rd season-ender Colombia
Janez celebrating one of his many HC-triumphs this year
The slovenian with one his many strong performances at teams only Wildcard this season - The giro, resulting in an impressive 6th place in the end!
It's no doubt that the only reason we're staying up this season, is this man. With a total of no less than 3 HC races won (!) is it no secret this man is a winning machine. Eventhough he won't complete last season achievement of winning the induvidial PCT - he's looking very likely to finish on the final podium, behind Alberto Contador and Luis Leon Sanchez.
Brajkovic scored a total 999 rankings points in total, nearly crossing the big 1000 mark. And I think you get how embarrising it is that the rest of the teams 14 riders only managed to score 624 points together, with only 1 race left on the calender.
During Brajko's well used 32 race days this season, he had an impressive average of 31,22 points per race day.
His season:
Janez Brajkovic | Corsica International | 1st | Janez Brajkovic | Volcan de Agua Classic | 1st | Janez Brajkovic | Int. Österrech Rundfahrt | 1st | Janez Brajkovic | Colombian Venteaux | 3rd | Janez Brajkovic | Volta a Catalunya | 4th | Janez Brajkovic | Tour of Bulgaria | 5th | Janez Brajkovic | Giro d'Italia | 6th | Janez Brajkovic | Isle of Man ITT | 6th | Janez Brajkovic | Tour d'Andorra | 8th |

After Tour of Beijing, the offcial racing season for ONCE endet. The highlights of the race were Guillén's impressive 8th place in a sprint and the fact we made the BoTD every stage except for the first stage where the break actually held on.
Considering the sponsorship is ending, this is a special feeling for everyone in the team. Now only the NC's remaign before the off-season begins. And that will probably be the last time for a loong while the ONCE-Eroski kits will be seen in the pro-pack.
Previuosly, team manager Dev has said in an interview, that some massive changes are underway. Any idea of what they could be?

Team Ranking
Team
1 | | Aegon - Lavazza | 3698 | 2 | | Gazelle | 3619 | 3 | | Team Puma - SAP | 3588 | 4 | | Team Bpost | 3224 | 5 | | Team Kenya Airways | 3213 | 6 | | Evonik - ELKO | 2923 | 7 | | RBC Pro Cycling | 2876 | 8 | | Risa - Ergon | 2754 | 9 | | Karcher-Adira | 2595 | 10 | | Swedbank-PEAB | 2444 | 11 | | Prio - Porto | 2416 | 12 | | Bank of Ireland | 2258 | 13 | | Team TomTom | 2152 | 14 | | Eritel - Sonatrach | 2149 | 15 | | AMEX-Navigon | 2094 | 16 | | Grupo Nutresa | 1849 | 17 | | Buff - Polska | 1840 | 18 | | Project: Africa | 1803 | 19 | | Bonsucro | 1727 | 20 | | Team Vontobel | 1713 | 21 | | ONCE-Eroski | 1614 | 22 | | Azteca - NBCSN | 1604 | 23 | | Mobil - Aeropostal Ciclismo | 1568 | 24 | | Siam Cement - Lenovo | 1508 | 25 | | Children of Chernobyl Foundation p/b Nemiroff | 1434 | 26 | | Euskaltel-Air France | 1410 | 27 | | Lululemon/Bulgaria Blackfish | 1403 | 28 | | cycleYorkshire s/b ASDA-Savers | 913 | 29 | | Eddie Stobart Pro Cycling | 882 | 30 | | Sauber Petronas | 753 |
So, as you can see, we were definetely one of the buttom teams this season. And over ten places behind our ambitious goal of top ten. Finishing abit over 200 points from the last relegating team is not something we are particially proud of or something we want to do again. Therefore we are planning on some major reforming in this upcomming off-season.
The 2015 PCT winners were the brilliant Aegon - Lavazza, who raced brilliantly and mainly had their success in the mountainous races with their biggest star, Martijn Keizer!
Six other teams are joining them to PT next season and those are; Gazelle, Team Puma - Sap, Bpost, Team Kenya Airways, Evonik - ELKO and RBC Pro Cycling.
The relegation battle went down to the very last race, and eventhough we were in it for some time, we were never really threatened in the end.
Those unfortunate teams who have to take the step down are; Euskaltel-Air France,
Lululemon/Bulgaria Blackfish, cycleYorkshire s/b ASDA-Savers , Eddie Stobart Pro Cycling and Sauber Petronas.
Ride of the season
Janez Brajkovic, Österreich Rundfahrt!
Not only did he win a stage there, but he also took the GC home in dominating fashion and also secured one of our win goals. Probably the most important single result for the team throughout the entire season. If it wasnt for this result, we could easily have relegated aswell.
Loanee of the Season
Blaz Bogataj, Vuelta al Tachira
We have only taking in two loanees this season. Something we definetely don't regret! Both have showed themself plenty(Golovash and Bogataj) but Blaz had the most remarkable result in his stage win in Tachira. The fact Guillén sprinted to 2nd behind Blaz only made the result more special!
Individual Rankings
Riders
3 | Janez Brajkovic | SLO | | ONCE-Eroski | 999 | 104 | Igor Antón | ESP | | ONCE-Eroski | 173 | 117 | Mikel Landa | ESP | | ONCE-Eroski | 147 | 150 | Jarlinson Pantano Gómez | COL | | ONCE-Eroski | 106 | 269 | Mario Gonzalez Salas | ESP | | ONCE-Eroski | 44 | 296 | Marco Guillén | CRC | | ONCE-Eroski | 32 | 340 | Blaz Bogataj | SLO | | ONCE-Eroski | 23 | 384 | Miguel Minguez Ayala | ESP | | ONCE-Eroski | 15 | 388 | Richard Antonio Carapaz | ECU | | ONCE-Eroski | 14 | 477 | Imanol Erviti | ESP | | ONCE-Eroski | 5 | 515 | César Rojas Villegas | CRC | | ONCE-Eroski | 2 | 536 | Miguel Angel Benito | ESP | | ONCE-Eroski | 1 | 549 | Thomas Bonnin | FRA | | ONCE-Eroski | 1 |
As you can see quite clearly - way too bad from the other top riders except Brajkovic!
The top teams in PCT this season had a few riders in top 30 or atleast top 50. We only had 1 top 100!
This is gonna be the main priority to focus on this transfer season - get multiply leaders who are capable of scoring decently!

Brajkovic was the stand out rider for you! As you said, without his big results, it would have ended in relegation.

Looking at your talents progression I'd say you're already in a great position to do better than this season. Brajkos wage is also surely gonna come down, to allow you to sign the second leader you really need to be competitive.

As the off season is closing in, its time to reveal who got a safe future in the team and who doesn't.
And who knows, you might even find a few of those riders interesting.
Staying
Ablenado, Aberlardo | Gonzalez Salas, Mario | Slagter, Tom Jelte | Mudarra, Pablo Mudarra |
All these riders are great talents, and it will be hard to see anyone comming up with tempting enough offers for these to leave. The two first are from our preferred nation and the two last have been with us the entire time, and are finally achieving their full potential!
Most likely staying
Landa, Mikel | Benito, Miguel Angel | Cano, Jose Luiz | Herrada, Jesús | Minguez Ayala, Miguel | Carapaz, Richard Antonio | Cuasquer, Klever |
We will probably end up keeping most of these, if not all, unless someone offers interesting riders. Benito and Herrada, who are both very capable stage racing domestiques already, are looking for a PT-home for next year!
Willing to sell
Pantano Goméz, Jarlinson | Antón, Igor | Rojas Villegas, César | Bonnin, Thomas |
Nobody goes for free though. More than happy to keep all of them. Antón is mostly likely gonna be sold due to how great he would be in CT. Theres no room for Pantano either due to his odd nationality.
Definitely Selling
Guillén, Marco | Jumabekov, Nazar |
One is kazakh and other is way better off in CT level. As only sprinter to make the the top 10 CT standings last year, Guillen is capable off much more there(only got two 2nd places in PCT this year).
Unsure if renewing/even keeping
Brajkovic, Janez | Kozic, Nejd | Erviti, Imanol |
Brajko is likely too expensive. Nejd is a wildcard and Erviti is ageing.
**Note that these arent 100% and hope nobody gets too dissapointed.

Simon Spilak would definately be interested in more slovenians at Festina. Brajkovic is too expensive, though, but Kosic could be interesting. How did you train him? Cobbles or Classic?

Nah, I am pretty sure that he will be too expensive for me to get - eventhough he is old. I don't have a lot of free wage cap this coming season - if any at all. So I'm looking for 50K riders/talents that I like - Kosic could well be one of those, as he would be a good future domestique for Tom David.

Indeed he would, yeah. Maxing out at 77 cobbles aint too shabby for PT domestique either.
Even if I decide to go for cobbles this off-season, I wouldnt mind getting rid off Nejd as I would have one less nation in the squad then.
Btw no free wage cap this comming season? Thought you were planning on getting rid of Ricco for quite some time already
