Yep, I really groaned when I read that. Took over the position of "German who can finish Top 10 in all Ardennes races" from Wegmann and then Martens, and I was convinced that's not the end for him yet.
Sucks for Degenkolb in MSR as well, he would've definitely be around in the end to help.

Degenkolb though probably will get great support by Dumoulin and Arndt. Both in decent form. But true. Geschke could have helped there and also showed good form before the crash. |

Depending on how the race unfolds, any additional team mate counts especially on/after the poggio...I go out on a limb and say if he had two more still around in 2012, he would've won.

But actually less Welsh stages than the last few years! A more Northern route in general this year, having followed a similar formula for the last few years.

I guess the two cancel eachother out. I guess the organisers feel (correctly) that the start offers more prestige than a few stages in the middle.

I still find it surprising that riders today, who are supposed to be clean, are destroying times that were set by riders that were doping. |

Well, one obvious reason for this is clearly the better equipment today. |

And the second obvious reason is that they aren't really clean just because they say so.

Just a quick thought: If they really were to be doping (which, I know, many things point at) why would they even say that Porte destroyed Armstrongs time with a minute? That just seems counterproductive as they know as well as us that those kinda times will be speculated upon
Edit: Of course unless its reversed psychology. But I wont bite on that!

Lance' time is from 1999 and his bike was about 8,6kg .
This cyclingtips article says Armstrong did about 12km of climbing at about 7%. Using the kreuzotter.de tool Armstrong's speed with a 6,8kg bike instead of his heavy 8,6 would see him riding above 30 minutes.
My personal conclusion: either Porte is lying about his time or he got the Leinders-special-care-package. |

Well, Porte & Froome are really show-offs at the end of the day. The way they ride and attack when they are in form, and I think they behave a little like that, too. Take a look at Froome's book with all those little show-off stories. So, why wouldn't you share it when you beat one of the fastest climbers in history on his favourite mountain? As long as you can sell the narrative, you can share anything.

So no reason to continue speculating about where Dekker will end up riding.

It's sad really. He has the potential, I feel that in these situations it's more a matter of mental boundaries than his physical capabilities.
I remember playing PCM 08 with Rabobank where him and Gesink were absolute legends.
