This disrespect thing is very interesting as it is basically the same everywhere today...also not surprised that he picks Bouhanni as example.
I don't really think the older riders in the peloton should be sooking about a lack of respect out there, why should younger cyclists respect these guys with the history cycling has, Bouhanni is a loud mouth but that's far from uncommon in sport.
The other thing The Secret Pro fails to mention with the Lance thing and being sued for 10 million isn't that people are picking on him it's because he lied under oath and perjured himself which is a pretty big deal, it has nothing to do with the UCI or WADA or cycling really.
I used to find the articles a good enough read but the last few have been poor and this one was just rubbish

All of the above about Lance (not to mention various hideous behaviour) and if I remember correctly he was given the same option to hold his hands up with reduced punishment that all the others were.
Not surprising he chose not to take it given underlying personality and he was probably feeling bullet proof a long long time ago... |

Excellent news on the E3 advert, simple decision really. People seem to forget the UCI as more to do than Elite Mens rules and doping.
Bike paths will be used in all the classics this year. The UCI won't give a flying f*ck unless it's just 1 or 2 guys and everyone complains about it. Understandable rule but won't be enforced until there's another major accident or controversy

Really? You don't see the problem with this misogynistic ad, what Sagan did last year was a disgrace that shouldn't be tolerated and then for the organisers to try and profit of what could be classed as sexual assault is worse. Good on the UCI for kicking up a fuss

UCI wouldn't have done anything if every sane person hadn't gone nuts about it
Although apparently the response from E3 was just to remove the UCI logo from the Ad but left the rest of it untouched

In Belgium there weren't many complaints to start with. Just a women's right organisation asked to have it removed. But who cares about what they have to say anyway
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Yeah, assault, beware women.
Stop this hipster bullshit please, we are coming closer as the society to the point, where anything will offend or assault anyone, oh gosh, i would rather die than live to that point.

Although I wouldn't phrase it in quite this way, generally speaking I do agree that we as a culture (both the US and Western Europe, although it's slightly worse in the latter) get a little bit too uptight nowadays about anything that isn't "pc".
However, these sorts of things do have the ability, not in a vacuum, but when combined into a consistent display of images, to negatively affect the way that women are seen in the part of the culture in which they appear. Cycling is a sport that has a serious disparity between male and female participation, something that, even if it never fully equates, would be beneficial for all if the gap was narrowed. In this case, I agree with the UCI. The picture wasn't exploitative, it wasn't harmful, but it was in bad taste, hit a sore point, and asking the organizers to remove it for the goodwill of the sport is exactly what the UCIs job should be. |

Since when admiring beauty of womens body is misognystic? And on that poster the cyclist's hand isnt even touching the butt. I thought it was a great way to gain the attention of people who wouldn't watch the race had they not seen this intriguing poster and the origin of why it has been done (Sagan 2013). I guess the political correctness virus strikes again. |

No no no there's just so many things wrong with that as an advert for E3.
1) The Sagan incident wasn't even E3, it was Tour of Flanders
Basically this is E3 trying to piggyback off the popularity of a separate race, using the single most controversial incident from said race in at least a decade. Smart...
2) It has nothing to do with cycling
E3 is a good race! It has so much to chose from in an ad campagin. The cobbles, the stars, the history, the scenery etc etc Instead they dive straight for lowest demographic of "sex sells"
3) Cyclings issues of Gender Equality
Ever more highlighted in modern culture is the issue of feminism. Not going into all of that bollocks but cycling has some hefty questions to answer. Again i won't go into the all the details but the UCI/ASO/etc are far from shining examples of progressive organizations
Sexual Assult is certainly a level too far to call it. But it's extremely disrespectful to the podium girl from Flanders, to the extent it could be classed as workplace harrassment. It's luck E3 doesn't run a direct Womens event otherwise that race would be f*cking empty this year.
There's Political Correctness being overdone, i won't argue that. But in this instance it's a poor advert done in such bad taste i can't believe someone even approved it (it was probably a guy, in his 50's/60's, who calls his secretary "sugar"... Don Draper! That's who made this advert!)

Totally agree with you TMM.
Why not making a banner like KBK, which is pretty awesome and much more shows what those races are about.

Come on, the entire podium girl thing is disrespectful towards women. Young, beautiful halfnaked girls with no knowledge of cycling coming on to the podium with no other purpose then to accentuate the masculinity of the winner. A pinch in the ass more or less won't make a difference.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

They probably should get rid of podium girls, or at least reciprocate with podium guys for the women.
And yes, that does make a huge difference. The gap between admiring a woman for her beauty, which it's a woman's right and prerogative to show off as she pleases, and making physical contact is unbelievably massive.
That's like saying the gap between South America and Africa is just a "small stream."

I was going to post a bigger response, but Deadpool and TMM both said it already. The problem is that it has nothing to do with the race and is certainly trying to use a shock/sex sells tactic. That's not even considering that we've seen way too much in terms of objectification of women already, particularly in primarily-male professional sports.

Completely agree with TMM here, though I see this going into the same cycle as the last time we discussed it in relation with the episode it refers to.
E3 does have a history of using pretty girls rather than race-related things to advertise though, so I'm not really that surprised that they of all decided this was a good idea.
Absoutely love that KBK poster though
Edit: Add Deadpool and Ozrocker to the list of people hitting the nail right on.

Yet K-B-K is relatively easy when it comes to cobbled sections. Probably the easiest one. |

I really hope I am wrong about this, but I think Betancur has some serious problems. Was hoping he at least could perform decently in San Luis (like not in the bottom 1/10), but he stunk it up again and now I dont see or hear anything from him except his lazy ass posting pictures of his baby in Columbia...
