Thanks guys for all the support! I'm super happy with my ride, considering I had the worst starting position out of the top 5 riders (the 3 minute-men in front of me were very slow). I really didn't expect the first guy to be there, he's good and all, but I'm rather disappointed that there was no doping-control just to be sure.
Another thing is, there were a lot of downhills and fast flat sections on the course. I weigh 58kg, while the 2 in front of me both weigh 65kg+ which makes a huge difference to speed. Remember, Juniors race with restricted gears, so when your cadence maxes out, you're left with weight to carry you downhill.
I was the fastest on the climb we had and I can tell you why:
When I was on my last lap, Jarrod just started 30 seconds behind me, he caught me just after the turn around (on a downhill) and opened up a 10 second gap. On the short climb that followed, I caught an dropped him while I was on my last lap and he was on his first (fresher legs).
So, in conclusion I know there are A LOT of "IFs", but had a started later on and had better guys to chase, I believe I would have won. But I'm really happy, coming 3rd here is sort of like Quintana coming 3rd at TT worlds
Saterday is the road race. There are a few really strong MTBers who will also be there, so there'll be a real challenge. I now know I'm the strongest on the climbs (even though they are short and relatively easy) I believe I can win the road. We're doing a 14km circuit 9 times, so this time my weight will be an advantage rather than disadvantage! Fingers crossed!
Get that jersey! Good luck.

Good luck aidan, we will all be cheering for you.
Does anyone (maybe aidan) know if there is a plan for a live ticker of events and what the start time is? I'd love to follow it if I can.

Go kick their asses Aidan and get that jersey, kind of disappointing that you were 3rd, even though it's still a podium placing. Seeing you win would be the most amazing thing ever, gonna wake up early to follow you live mate

Will try to follow as well.
Any idea when it's estimated to finish? Because I got an own sports thingy
How is it possible that there are a couple of Namibians participating? For instance that Petrus Petrus guy participated in Namibian RR as well.

Once again, thanks guys for the support. It really does help with extra motivation. I'm absolutely burning inside to get that SA jersey, so I'll put up a massive fight in the road race.
@jihardy: No, I'm not actually. It's quite a common surname, but for some reason it seems to be even more common under SA cyclists.
Spoiler Btw, on a side note, maybe I can convince SN to add me to the MG DB now

Not quite sure how that is done actually. I think they have dual citizenship- i.e. Namibian and South African.
Our race will be be close to 4hrs long. So expect a finish time between 9:30 - 10:20 (ZA time). Good luck with that sports thingy

I also found a live video stream for the event. I think it may only be stationery cameras at the start/finish area and I have an idea it'll only follow elites, but here it is anyway:

Ah yes, seems to be the same place that had the stream last year. I do remember the Elite Men's Road Race having a limited number of motorcycles out on course providing live broadcast images as well. Though that was last year, the broadcast budget mightn't have stretched as far this year.
Can't remember if they broadcasted any of the other road races.

Wow that is an early start. Thanks for the links, it is mid-afternoon on Saturday for me so hopefully I can tune in. Once again, good luck.

Well done Aidan, medalling at Nationals is quite an achievement . Good luck for the RR. Is this your 1st or 2nd year Junior? I thought you were more focussed on mtb - has your focussed changed or is this (a very successful!) sideline?
All the best. Plenty of PCMdaily and MG support on your side at any rate!

Thanks, but going for that jersey today. In the words of the great Ricky Bobby, "If you ain't first, you're last."
I kind of am more focused, but it's a long story. I'll tell the whole of Daily this afternoon. For now, thanks guys for the support. I'm going to smash it today.

Is the tracker site working for anyone else? It's not giving me anything on the main page, I had to click on riders profiles and compare to have any idea how it's going. And is anyone watching the stream? How's it going?
