Ouch, Gomez Marchante...guess that will be a big shock for roturn when scrolling through the results.
Apart from that, to wrap up week 1: nice to see Cunego and Pluchkin doing that well, and the good Ponzi/Trofimov showing is always helping to strengthen my belief in sticking to a Demare plan for the next seasons. VDB looking decent in his first GT in quite a while too.
Madrazo on the other hand starts to be worryingly passive, dunno how bad of a result Santander can afford here...

Hmm, completely missed Gomez Marchante there, I'll add a line to the report at least

Hmm...
+7'12 as only GC rider.
What did happen there.
I mean, losing time was expected. But seeing such a big roup with 45s only, I had hoped he was in there.

Im very happy with Riccos performance in these hard stages. A stagewin will be difficult with Cunego in his current shape.

A bit better by Sella, but I feel that our goal has changed to top 10

Really interesting stage not sure what's happening to Madrazo but perhaps this is the giro were Pluchkin gets his payback for puncture-gate at the tour last year |

What a pity, I feel bad for you roturn. Having your rider dropped in such a fashion in two consecutive events where he his the key rider must feel awful. I feel the game kinda owes you something now.
On the other end things couldn't be more exciting. Another swap of the leader's jersey! This must mean Fothen should eventually smell the scent of the pink at some point

Very weird performance from Madrazo!
I'm increasingly worried by Cunego's performances in the hilly stages. Hopefully Pluchkin will be able to drop in the mountains and gain take back the jersey in the TT.

Feel sorry for roturn (again), Gomez Marchante isn't quite living up to expectations.
Nice to see Antón near the front of the peloton in the sprint, any GC placing from him will be a bonus, as this is all about the cream of the crop.
Madrazo with another disappointing stage compared to his rivals. Cunego is looking increasingly good, and we're still a fair way from the next mountain stage. If he can somehow get the jersey back after the time trial, but before the mountains, he should be a great challenge for Pluchkin. |

Actually Gomez Marchante is living up to exactly what I had feared to see before the season.
So Vuelta Top10 he must reach then.
This was one of 2-3 stages, where I had small hopes to see Guardini in the sprint competition. He was in the peloton but as Reimer, Pozzato etc. showed, it was still too hard for pure sprinters. Probably a stage where Geschke would have suited me.
Villella being injured sucks in case of breakaways.
So now Thurau and Ballan need to join those as I am not happy at all with my team there. Should definitely join more often.
In the mountains I also want to see Gomez Marchante at least in 2-3 mid stage breakaways if not in the morning break. |

Kip with a solid sprint and Ianetti showing our colours makes that a decent stage for us.

Degenkolb was really weak + Wallays (my secret hope for stage 9) crashed = bad stage for us. Luckily that crash didn´t affect GC battle.

Too bad Anacona had to abandon, one of Sella's helpers. Atleast Pippo keeps coming closer, he gotta get a win soon

If Cunego doesn't win the Giro, I hope that he at least takes the points jersey. Looks good at the moment.

You know it`s gonna be a bad stage if the only mention of your team is the time loss of your leader...
No breakaway appearance is unacceptable.
So far it`s a great Giro for some teams like Good Energy, Lotto) and an awful one for some others (Rothaus, Vesuvio) with the majority in the middle.

Cunego is looking better and better here. Though I still think pluchkin and madrazo are dangerous, very pleased to see alarcon is still pushing hard. Have hopes he can still animate things.

Ben Nasser attacking on nearly every stage os quite entertaining, now for the other eight riders to help him as they've all been pretty anonymous except when being dropped. |
