Some Big Thing Is Comin'?
When I came home to Como, Lombardy, I had a lot of feelings inside my head. I'm leaving my good friends from Leopard, especially Alex Kirsch has become very near friend of me.
On the other hand I'm going to the another step of my career and being a stagiare at Trek is something special. And I can't wait to race in their colors with great cyclists.
After a day spended just sitting and relaxing with a coffee in my hand and the newspapers in the other I finally opened my laptop and checked the mails. I was quite surprised when I saw incoming mails... I received mails from two teams which want to discuss wit me their contract offers! After I read them i was very excited, because their first words looked nicely.
I can't say you the names of these teams now, but one of them is a German team with Pro Continental status, which leader is very probably going to World Tour next season, so they are building new, younger, team.
And the other one is very promising Danish Continental team, but they are sure that they will get Pro Continental licence for the next season. Also they were already matched with very interesting riders!
I will surely let you know how these big things will go on!

NetApp of course Konig is in discuss with a lot of teams from World Tour, hopefully he won't choose Sky
but, Orange is not a Danish team if I'm right, is it?
edit: I see you were faster than me guys...

Tour de Pologne So for the first time I'm going to try my new colours in the race! And what a race! WorldTour Tour de Pologne against the best teams and riders! I got a free hand in this race from the team so I can ride without any pressure on me.
First 4 stages were for the sprinters. The first one went without any problems for me and I came in the same time as the winner Ben Swift (Sky).
In the second I lost some time in the final kilometres due to the massive crash, from our team Boy van Poppel was involved, but luckily he wasn't injured. The stage victory was taken by R. Navardauskas (Garmin).
Stage 3 was controlled by OPQS and they made great lead-out for Mark Renshaw but he wasn't able to deliver the victory and he was beaten by Lobato (Movistar).
Stage 4 was the last opportunity for sprinters. Tomorrow there was a hard stage ending in Strbske Pleso and I was already looking forward to it so I wanted to save as much as energy as possible during the stage. But it was hard stage. In the last 50km there was a big wind and the pack was divided into a lot of smaller groups and I lost 2'30'' in this stage.
I was really happy that the race finally went to High Tatras. I was very motivated and ready to show why I got a chance as a stagiare.
Before the stage our DS said that Bob Jungels will be our leader today, as he was the best in GC from our team. We had there good riders for this kind of terrain with Zubeldia or Busche.
After the 100km we came to Strba where we had to take 3 laps with 3 hard ascents to Strbske Pleso. During the first ascent Movistar and Ag2r were making the pace. But it wasn't so hard and there were still a lot of riders in the pack before the 2nd lap.
During the 2nd lap the first attacks from peloton came - it was Lopez Garcia (Sky) with Y. Eijssen (BMC) who tried it.
About 20km to go there had 1'30'' advantage on peloton, but Movistar highed the pace and we were closing them.
6km from the finish Nairo Quintana launched his attack and nobody was able to follow him, I was going with Aru and Rodriguez. And Bob Jungels was behind us with Zubeldia and Busche.
In the last kilometer Rodriguez attacked and I was the only one who followed him, as Quintana came solo, I lost with Rodriguez the battle for the 2nd place...
1 | Nairo Quintana | Movistar Team | 4h19'01 | 2 | Joaquin Rodriguez | Katusha Team | + 36 | 3 | Mario Rizzi | Trek Factory Racing | s.t. | 4 | Tom Dumoulin | Giant - Shimano | + 52 | 5 | Beñat Intxausti | Movistar Team | s.t. |
1 | Nairo Quintana | Movistar Team | 23h25'40 | 2 | Joaquin Rodriguez | Katusha Team | + 40 | 3 | Ben Swift | Sky Procycling | + 43 | 4 | Ramunas Navardauskas | Garmin - Sharp | + 52 | 5 | Michal Kwiatkowski | Omega Pharma - Quick·Step | + 1'02 | ... | 36 | Mario Rizzi | Trek Factory Racing | + 3'58 |

Tour de Pologne
After the hard stage to Strbske Pleso that one in Bukowina Tatrzanska was even harder. We had to face several laps around this Polish city near to the High Tatras.
Movistar, as Quintana was the new leader, made the pace and didn't make any problems to the riders who wanted to be in front, so they let 7 riders go into a break.
About 50km to go Movistar started to push harder, and a lot of riders had problems with higher pace, as other my team-mates were struggling I had to protect Bob Jungels.
At 15km mark D. Pozzovivo started the attacks, he was followed by Intxausti, Quintana, Hesjedal, Aru and Kwiatkowski.
I took care about Bob, who wasn't able to follow the pace of the best riders, but we weren't too far.
At 12km Michal Kwiatkowski launched another attack and only Pozzovivo and Quintana followed him.
I was with Bob, Rodriguez, Aru, Kennaugh and Hesjedal about 30'' behind them and we were going to under the last hill. And at 5km mark we were all together in the front.
Kennaugh attacked as the first at the last km, but almost everybody was ready to respond.
Finally, Michal Kwiatkowski showed his acceleration and went for the home victory, I came with Bob sitting just behind me just 15'' later.
1 | Michal Kwiatkowski | Omega Pharma - Quick·Step | 4h41'51 | 2 | Joaquin Rodriguez | Katusha Team | s.t. | 3 | Peter Kennaugh | Sky Procycling | s.t. | 4 | Domenico Pozzovivo | Ag2r - La Mondiale | s.t. | 5 | Fabian Blondel | Lotto - Belisol | + 15 | ... | 10 | Mario Rizzi | Trek Factory Racing | + 15 | 11 | Bob Jungels | Trek Factory Racing | s.t. |
1 | Nairo Quintana | Movistar Team | 28h07'46 | 2 | Joaquin Rodriguez | Katusha Team | + 19 | 3 | Michal Kwiatkowski | Omega Pharma - Quick·Step | + 37 | 4 | Peter Kennaugh | Sky Procycling | + 43 | 5 | Domenico Pozzovivo | Ag2r - La Mondiale | + 47 | ... | 8 | Bob Jungels | Trek Factory Racing | + 1'02 | 19 | Mario Rizzi | Trek Factory Racing | + 3'58 |
As I was almost 4' behind the leader I could take this time trial in an easy way. We all hoped that Bob, as good time-trialist, could move up in the GC, and also the battle for overall victory was interesting with Kwiatkowski only 37'' behind Quintana. So I started slowly and in the first intermediate I was 1'03'' behind the provisionla leader Rigoberto Uran.
In the finish I lost 2'15'' on Uran, but the world champion - Tony Martin - was coming. He took an easy win and his team-mate Michal Kwiatkowski took the overall victory! 1 | Tony Martin | Omega Pharma - Quick·Step | 32'11 | 2 | Rigoberto Uran | Omega Pharma - Quick·Step | + 45 | 3 | Tom Dumoulin | Giant - Shimano | + 46 | 4 | Michal Kwiatkowski | Omega Pharma - Quick·Step | + 56 | 5 | Peter Kennaugh | Sky Procycling | + 1'15 | ... | 69 | Mario Rizzi | Trek Factory Racing | + 3'01 |
1 | Michal Kwiatkowski | Omega Pharma - Quick·Step | 28h41'30 | 2 | Tom Dumoulin | Giant - Shimano | + 15 | 3 | Peter Kennaugh | Sky Procycling | + 25 | 4 | Nairo Quintana | Movistar Team | + 30 | 5 | Joaquin Rodriguez | Katusha Team | + 43 | ... | 18 | Mario Rizzi | Trek Factory Racing | + 5'26 |
So, that's it. I was coming home with solid 18th place in my first WT stage race and I was very satisfied with my performance here in Poland. Now it's time to prepare for my next race - the USA Pro Cycling Challange.
Thank you Andy for everything!
