@Ian Butler - A looong way to go....
@NTTHRASH - Indeed, hope the TdU will go better.
@Ollfardh – If you make the route for a 1 rider race...
@krisa – Thanks, hope you'll follow.
I plan to begin the TdU tomorrow, so the WT racing isn't far from now!

Thanks for the comments and indeed sutty, Look out!
We're coming here with a nice, really balanced squad to start our WT journey. There is no particular leader in this team, everybody will have their own chances to go for it, as long as their form allows it. It'd be nice to see some good results, as I think we have pretty good chances at all stages. We have some sprinters, puncheurs, so there is the complete package for such a race. Breakaways, mass sprints or hilly finishes, we'd like to contest all of them. Pretty simple, if you ask me.
Now let's take a look at the startlist! As for the GC there are some good names for the hills, such as AG2R's Rinaldo Nocentini and Moreno Moser from the Cannondale team. Other favourites include the oldie Jens Voigt, Simon Spilak and Chris Anker Sorensen. Of couse, there is more than that, as Dario Cataldo or Lieuwe Westra are certainly not the ones to overlook. The startlist isn't particularly strong, but that will hopefully bring some excitement to the race, as there is no clear favourite. Gauging the sprinters, it's hometown hero Mark Renshaw and the Spanish Champion Ventoso standing out. They're the main favourites for the sprints, but Tom Veelers and Gianni Meersman are surely going to be contesting as well. It isn't just them though, there are plenty of fast guys, including our really own Thompson and Bányai, so we could have some chances here too. Let's see how it works out! |

Yes Selwink. It's strange indeed, but that's the best solution for us.
A quite flat stage with some bumps. It'll most likely come down in a sprint, but the finsih is quite tricky, so there is no obvious favourite.
My bet: Ventoso
The first breakaway of the season was a 5-men one, including South African champion Robbie Hunter from Garmin. Other well-known names were the youngsters, Andrea Palini and Guillaume van Keirsbluck. They built up a nice lead, which peaked around the 7 minutes mark.
As time went by, the peloton turned up the pace, led by Sky and Saxo - Tinkoff. The gap slowly started to shrink and that was a continuing tendency after around the 100 kilometer mark.
The peloton caught the BotD with 20 kms to go and the sprint preparations started. The pack starts to cross the 5 kilometer mark, so let's go live!
It's the trains of Blanco and Orica on the front, leading out the other sprinters. The newly formed canadian team, SpiderTech is not looking to be in a winning position today, as their riders are quite far back behind in the peloton. At the front it's now the sprint starting, Renshaw goes and Impey with him, but they are getting beaten by Samuel Domoulin, who is leading the way currently!
The riders are flying in the last straight, just one kilometer left of it! Astana's Simone Ponzi took the lead, while the other three I mentioned before are falling back. Instead, it's Taylor Phinney and Luca Paolini coming strong, as well as the dutchie Veelers. Hovewer, it seems like this one is in the bag for Ponzi, as he increases his lead! Can he pull this off?
Yes, it's a win for the italian! Ponzi starts his season off with a beautiful win, edging out Paolini and Dumoulin at the line. Gianni Meersman comes 4th after a nice sprint, while the best Spider is apparently Mike Pye, who finished 15th.

Spider of the Day/DS Reaction
Not a result to remember, no exceptional performances, so unfortunately no Spider of the Day points here. It was a quite disappointing stage to be honest, maybe we should try our luck in one of the breakaways in the next coming days. |

Is it just me, or does it seem that for such a team as this, that those aren't good results? I guess they need some fitness.
