Photo Review 2016 - Part C
Part C begins in Plouay, France. This route was very similar to the coming world championships, so when i managed to solo off the from of the reduced peloton in the last 15km, It left me feeling pretty good about my chances, another classic win under my belt and in the best WC warmup available!
At the beginning of the 2016 season, Project E.ON Cycling hired 4 young riders. 3 of them failed to impress and missed out on a contract for next year, however the fourth was a young spanish climber by the name of Jorge Martin. He's shown excellent progress over the year working hard in a sprinters team, and giving his all for Coppel when required. He scored a free role in La Vuelta, and showed the world that he's coming, collecting 3 fantastic Mountain stage wins from breakaways and collecting the Overall KOM in the process!
Back to me now, as i tackled my final armup, the Canadian classics. The two races didn't quite go to plan, on both occasions I finished up top10, but I couldn't out sprint the guys who I would be facing back in Plouay, which led to some tactical thinking as to how to beat them before hand.
This shot sums up perfectly, the 2016 Vuelta a Espána. Andy Schleck had a powerful team around him, and after he and his Radioshack-Nissan-Trek team collected the jersey on stage 6, they went on to control the race all the way to Madrid, to give Mr A. Schleck the Vuelta 2016 Title.
André Greipel clearly wasn't satisfied with just one GT Points jersey in a season, and going into the final stage if he could beat Edvald Boassen-Hagen by 3 places whilst coming in the top 2, he would be crowned Vuelta Points champion as well!
The team put in a champion effort on the final day into Madrid, and didn't just perform the necessary, they collected a 1-2 on the Stage thanks to Greipel and Sabatini!
My season may have been a distance from my best, but my team co-leader had a year the likes of which are only found in dreams, winning 2 GT points jerseys and 15 other stages to go with them!
2016 just wasn't designed to go my way it seems. The day before the World RR, I came down with a vicious bout of the Flu, There was no way I could compete, and all I could do was sit helpless watching my team mates and rivals fight out the title of WC.
Julién Simon was the surprise winner in said race, The breakaway was brought back late and his attack caught the opposition by surprise. He took the win by over a minute back to second placed Dominik Nerz.
With the season all but complete, I managed to get back out for the final WT race in the calendar, the Tour of Beijing. I really tried to get away in stage 4, but was caught late. I still managed 5th place overall, and took another young-riders jersey. The last I would ever compete for.
Finally, The key results of 2016:

@Ian Rolland is top 5 for MO stat, and has one of the best recoveries, he also had a team with some good support such as Cost. It'll be interesting how he does this year, as he's just moved to astana, where he has 2 80 MO helpers!
@the_hoyle It wasn't the best season for Shy, though he still managed a cfew successes such as the Pologne GC, and the E3 Prijs
@Pinktay3 Silin is turning into one of the best climbers, another year I'd say and he'll be able to threaten for at least a GT Podium, he's let down currently by a weak TT and a poor support team.

Hey guys, sorry it's taken me so long to get it written, Uni is sadly a cruel mistress and i haven't had a lot of time of late. None the less, here is the next chapter, attached as always, both in downloadable form, and online for those of you who prefer that method

Great read
It was nice to see him getting out of his 'depression' by just riding and training!
Just one thing: Belgians don't speak Belgian
We speak either Dutch, French, or German (but mostly English, too ) In Gent (brilliant choice for Shy!), it's Dutch

Flemish is alright. Technically it's not a language, but there's an obvious difference between Dutch in Flanders and the Netherlands, so that's why Flemish is used quite frequently |
