Unfortunately we don’t have any pictures or anything of the three Ardennes classics. We know that Luis participated in all three races with his Caja Rural team. Luis’ best race was the Amstel where he did a great fight only losing out with 26 seconds to the lead group containing of Rodríguez, Gerrans, L.L.Sánchez and Iglinskiy. Luis came 5th just ahead of Flecha.
Amstel Gold Race result
1. Joaquím Rodríguez - Katusha
2. Simon Gerrans - Orica-GreenEdge - (s.t.)
3. Luis León Sánchez - Rabobank - (s.t.)
4. Maxim Iglinskiy - Astana - (s.t.)
5. Luis Jiménez - Caja Rural - (+26")
In Flèche Wallonne he had his worst race of the three. But it wasn’t really a bad race. Luis finished 10th in a group with Moreno, Intxausti and Porte. Ahead of him were big names such as Gilbert, L.L.Sánchez, Albasini, Rodríguez, Gasparotto, A.Schleck, Kreuziger and Nocentini.
La Flèche Wallonne result
1. Philippe Gilbert - Lotto-Belisol
2. Luis León Sánchez - Rabobank - (s.t.)
3. Michael Albasini - Orica-GreenEdge - (+9")
4. Joaquím Rdroíguez - Katusha - (+20")
---
10. Luis Jiménez - Caja Rural - (+43")
Then in Liège he got one place better finishing 9th behind such riders as Cunego, Rodríguez, Scarponi, Gerrans, L.L.Sánchez, Cobo, Gilbert and S.Sánchez.
Liège Bastogne Liège result
1. Damiano Cunego - Lampre-ISD
2. Joaquím Rodríguez - Katusha - (+37")
3. Michele Scarponi - Lampre-ISD - (+37")
4. Simon Gerrans - Orica-GreenEdge - (+37")
---
9. Luis Jiménez - Caja Rural - (+49")
He said this after Liège.
“I don’t really know if I’m satisfied with this. I always seek to win, but these were my first Ardennes races. I’m proud of my performances. (…) I hope that I can come back next year and hopefully do even better. (…) Now I will take a long and deserved break. (…) When I come back? Probably in Tour de Slovenie. I may even wait until Burgos. (…) I want to fight for the victory in San Sebastian, the Vuelta, the Worlds and Lombardia. (…)” |

Thanks guys!
After a very long break Luis was back in competition in Burgos. This was the first step in his fall season schedule which also included San Sebastian, the Vuelta, the Worlds and finally Lombardia. Probably with some more small races after the Worlds.
We jump quickly through Burgos as it wasn’t his best race after all. Even though he showed some great riding he wasn’t at the top. No surprise after more than three months without racing.
It looked like he got a great start finishing 2nd on stage 1 only beaten by Joaquím Rodríguez by 23 seconds. On stage 2 he came in 3rd in a small group finishing 7th on the stage, 15 seconds behind Rodríguez. Stage 3 was a team time trial and here Caja Rural lost more than one minute which sent Luis Jiménez back to 12th in the GC, almost 2 minutes back. Stage 4 wasn’t any better losing 49 seconds to Rodríguez who won once again. So before the final stage Luis was laying 16th, almost 3 minutes back on Rodríguez and 1 minute off the podium.
On the final stage Luis attacked from the bottom of the final climb showing off that he was about the right form before the Vuelta. Taking the win with 32 seconds to Rodríguez and Atapuma he climbed back to a podium spot finishing 2nd overall while also taking the youth jersey.
Final GC in Burgos
1. Joaquím Rodríguez - Katusha
2. Luis Jiménez - Caja Rural - (+2'16")
3. Ion Izagirre - Euskaltel-Euskadi - (+2'33")
4. Juan José Cobo - Movistar - (+2'52")
5. Beñat Intxausti - Movistar - (+2'55") |

Very nice GC standings for him, Rodriguez is a strong rider, so being 2nd right behind him is excellent! |

@francopell - It is indeed. Thanks!
@ste_18 - Yeah. Both of them lost some time on stage 1, so they could have been better.
@Ian Butler - Rodríguez is a beast but Luis has beaten him before. 2nd is great though.
@sutty68 - Thanks!
Vincenzo Nibali - Rui Costa - Nairo Quintana - Alberto Contador - Peter Sagan

@the_hoyle - Thanks!
@Daggen - I do too. I hope he doesn't ride a good Vuelta. But Contador is coming back too, so Luis will get a lot of hard competition!
