Arno Wallaard Memorial

Team; Cronshaw, Lavery and Rogers will share leader role
Hammarling, Bialoblicki, Williams, Davis and Clarke will all attack and help.

(NOTE: the ai for this race was so fucked up it nearly killed all my motivation, so this will be short)

I tired to get into one of the early moves but each break was reeled in swiftly.
This pattern persisted until we only had 2/3 of the race to go.
Then Schuts (JVC), Dennis(JAI), Slik(RB3), Vennell(BAC), Porto(PRS), Beukeboom(RIJ), De Haan(CJP), Durasek(ADR), Vorobyev(TIK), Chernetskiy(TIK), Wesemann(MTN), Rudaskov(TIK), Tewelde(MTN), McCarthy(JAI), Weissinger(VBG), Russom(MTN), Polazzi(WBC) and Bialoblocki all went clear, gaining 3'45 with only 40km to go.
With 20km to go McCarty, Durasek, Rudaskov and Bialoblocki went clear and stayed away to finish in that order.
The rest of the break was caught as the peloton sprinted for 5th, being lead by Stauff

(Sorry for the lack of pictures. There will be a full report of the Rutland Classic next. There will also be a Karl blog first. As you can tell i struggled for motivation here, but it is back with the UK calendar Smile)

"I'll Have What She's Having"

The Dutch weekend is over. 2 good days for me. I got the stretch my legs with a couple of attacks, but i got to keep learning about the peloton. Marcin was the star of the weekend... at least in the mens team.
The womens team were also in Holland, and Lucy bagged a win. So of course we went out to celebrate in Amsterdam.
Every rumour you've hear about Amsterdam is true, i swear. It was the craziest night ever! While the whole team met up for a meal, only Lucy, Phil, Matt, Corrine, Sarah and I went clubbing afterwards.
It was a long night, and i must admit i ended up in someones room at 4am... I won say who for now, as we are not sure how to continue yet...
Back to cycling. James fell off in training and will be out for a couple of weeks. The team is gearing up for the Rutland-Melton Classic tomorrow. This is an important race for me. It's my last until July and is my kind of terrain. I wont be able to contest a sprint so i will be allowed to attack freely. The rest of the team will be working for Lavery as first choice. Cronshaw and Rogers will get free-roam at the finish. This should be a great race.
As i said this is my last race until July, as i take a break to focus on my A-Level retakes. I will still be training so i should be able to return at strength for the Beaumont Trophy. I will keep you updated on various bits of team news, and news about how i'm doing.
Right, so until then good-bye.

Rutland - Melton Classic

Team; Lavery will be the leader.
Cronshaw and Rogers will be co-leaders in case of a sprint finish.
I get to attack when i want.
Davis, Magnier, Williams and Bialoblocki ride support.

So the day kicked off with a series of attacks. Bialoblocki, Williams and Rogers all tired to get into the moves as they went. But SKT kept bringing them in.
After 25km a group went away.
I managed to get onto it, along with Griffiths(IGS) Debesay(MTN), Grenda(RCS), Boeve(RIJ) and Haan(CJP).

i1117.photobucket.com/albums/k587/Average_Man/Hammarling/PCM0001-5.jpg

We built a lead of 5'40 with 90km to go.
SKT were in charge and formed the chase by themselves.
With 30km to go my break companions started attacking. I kept my own pace and let it settle down again.
With 23k to go i launched on a downhill leading into cobbles (taking advantage of my skills) I quickly got a 30" gap and pressed on.
The rest of the break was reeled in with 20km to go.
I help 55" over the peloton until about 10km to go, when it started to drop as i ran out of energy...
Bagdonas(SKT) attacked with 5km to go, forcing Bialoblocki to the front. Node4 chased hard but Bagdonas was too strong.
I was caught by the peloton with 3km to go...
Thwaites(EDR) beat van Rensburg(MTN) to 2nd.

Comment; I'm tired... Very good day for me. Got in the break, and nearly defied the odds. I'm glad i can leave it at that for a few months. Great ride by Cronshaw to take a top10 as well. Good work by the team all round, the UK really gives us a boost.

Rating; Karl - 8/10 ___ Node4 - 8/10

Also;
Rogers, Frend and Sampson all resigned for at least another season.

Comment; A simple weekend of racing. Nothing of note. The team gained saddle time and form so all is good.

Team; Cronshaw, Lavery, Rogers, Williams, Clarke, Moss, Bialoblocki, Davis

Williams got into the break of 5.
He attacked with 20km to go, with Carlsen(XRG). They were caught with 300m to go, by a chasing trio, and the Node4 lead peloton at the same time... Was a mental finish...

Comment; The day looked great. Williams was the man of the day, constantly aggressive and unlucky in the end. The team rode superbly, and again were desperately unlucky in the end. We needed another lap...

The team is racing very well.
Karl was very unfortunate to be caught so close to the finish!

I'm Singing in the Rain

Despite some dodgy weather recently... I say some, its been raining almost non-stop since Rutland... Back to the point, despite the weather i have been in a great mood.
My revision is going well, and exams are still far enough away to not be scary. My training is going well. I keep breaking my own PB's on the various routes. And.... Well, i'll keep the last one to myself Wink unless you can guess it.
The Rutland-Melton was a good race. I managed to get into the break, which was fantastic. I was the strongest there. I am happy with my ride, even i did fall just short. The rest of the team worked well and a top10 was worth it.
In fact i have been riding so well i have got a contract offfer for next season. Its only a 1 year deal, but i will be on £1,800p/y. I wont say who it is yet, but it is a UK team. So thats 2013 in the bag. I'm not sure about a ToB space yet. There are only 8, and everyone in the team is fighting for one. All i can do is keep riding well and hope.
I am going down to Lincoln to watch the GP. It will be great to watch the guys from the road side, really looking forward to it. I will also be around to watch the women in action on the same course the day before, and i wish them lots of luck as well.
Can't think of anything else for now...
Feel free to always ask me anything, and i'll probably update you all before the end of the month.

Karl

You're racing in a lot of the races that are coming up in Raleigh's calendar in my season. I'm looking forward to the Rutland race in particular. Your team keeps picking up solid results. Keep it up!
