Bought EUIV as well a couple of months ago and I have to say I'm really enjoying it - the depth and variety of challenges presented by all the different countries is truly amazing! Tuscany has become my favourite nation for some reason even though they're tiny at the start

Im struggling on EU, I cant seem to conquer lands, I have attacked Scotland and lost and Spanish occupied territories in Flanders and lost. I attacked with about 35 armies. Attacking 1,000 troops at a time as I dont know how to attack with more yet.

Looking at the forums it seems EUIV is actually a bit like RISK in a way?
Also, where would be the best place to buy it? Steam has it for 40,00 €, Amazon has it for 35,00 €, would they be fair prices? Or should i wait and see if it pops up on steam sales at some point?
And Ste, is it hard to get in to as a completely new player?

Yeah, Tuscany are fun indeed, especially as they are best nation in whole game "technology-wise", as they start with two universities that give together -10% discount to monarch points cost, very useful. Also it is fun to form Italy from it, but their national ideas somwhat sucks after that creation...
I hope you like the game Ste117! But you should buy some food and drink too, as the game can be pretty addictive.

About that ships Ste117, you need transport ships obviously, those are the last/4th type in the row of ships in.
1.There are heavy ships (best in open ocean, cost much, many canoons, wow)
2.There are light ships (barques for the start) which are used to boost you trade in the trade nodes, whne you make them patrol in the trade node, it increases the income.
3.There are galleys, which are less expensive battle ships, especially for use in "closed seas", so Mediterraean, Baltic sea (obviously good for states like Sweden, Denmark and north africa. south europe bar Spain,Portugal, which will rather use heavy ships).
4. Finally last type are transport ships, where it is simple maths ,you want to transport 20regiments? You need 20 transport ships. But beware the stronger enemy fleet that can destroy your transport fleet, so you can add some heavy ships for protection.
But generally i would avoid going across the Channel as the beginner in the game, as that can be very tough. It depends who you are playing. France, England or maybe Burgundy? Also remeember that armies attacking from transport ships have malus to their fighting stats, defenders have big advantage. So try to set off somewhere secret and march to enemies army by foot.
It is of course extremely tough to invade British Isles if you are not okay with all the game mechanics, as history tought us, British have strong navy, much stronger than France at the start....
Important is to watch you country forcelimits modifiers in you military tab, you can see in the lower left part of it, how many armies/ships you have and what is your limit. If you are over your limit, you pay very big fee in gold, which you can see in economy tab, in army maintenance slider...
To your question Dippofiy. yeah, it is very hard to get used to. Not so hard to start going somewhat, but hard to master. But once you get your grasp on new trade system and fighting tactics, it is pretty straigh forward.

'Bought' EU IV as well now, sounds really good, hope it's something for me, sounds a bit more complicated than the Total War series I'm used to.

Yeah, much more complicated.
Read the guide, watch some lets play and rest will come with playing. Or you can ask me, i know everything.
Btw. i am now sober from EU4 for a month, i really needed that. I was getting up with ideas like crushing the Ming or colonizing the Spice Islands.
Now DLC is out and i will return to my adiction.

Is anyone still playing EU4, I have got to grips of it now, successfully built France up until I took Nice from the HRE and ran my manpower down which started the Peasant's war, plus overextension caused unrest and had religious problems. In the end lost most of the land I conquered in the late 1400s early 1500s, about to embark on a new save game now.

You should always look at your manpower and overextension mate, once you have these two things bad, it is slide to hell since that point. Even more when you control the hegemon like France, with many enemies (usually)...

Anyone can recommend a nice strategy game(preferably a historic one)?
EU wasn't really what I wanted and I've already played way too much Total War.
Considering picking up a Stronghold game again(had loads of fun with Stronghold 2 but might be outdated or there might be a better alternative) but if anyone can point me to an awesome strategy game that'd be great
Prefer a game that's relatively easy to learn.

I would recommend civilization 5, it is not really a hard core strategy game but it is really fun in my opinion |

Personally preferred Civ 4 - the only thing that makes me think about getting a proper laptop instead of a Chromebook is that I could play it again.

+1
It's not really a multiplayer game but you can spend hundreds of hours playing single player. |
