How ironic:
Westra second, behind Wiggins. Where have we seen that before?
Possibly both battling it out on the mountaintops of the TDF for the overall? Or am I being slightly optimistic there? Probably |

Would be too epic!
But I guess we're being too optimistic, I am a fan of him, but Westra's not really a top climber, and sorry to Wiggins' fans, but neither is he...

Don't think he will be able to stick to the top climbers on the very tough stages but could possibly win yellow by doing amazing timetrials. |

Then I suppose Evans would have a bigger chance. Wiggins and Evans are alike in TT, but Evans is stronger in the mountains.
But seriously, watch out for Bauke Mollema! He has been very strong in the classics!
& We're getting too much off-topic here...

Basso and Kreuziger taking it easy in the end of the front group, no point in risking the sprint before the Giro. Wiggins and Evans showed in better form than i expected, so there are my favourites for the overall, together with Mollema, it depends on what they will do at Saturday's stage.

That was such a weird finish.

So close Rui, but Hivert in these finishes is extremely fast. |

Hmm.. Danny Pate was descent in the time trial, but now he is pretty much last in the road stages. I would bet he is saving it up for a breakaway later in the race. At least I hope that is what he's doing...

He was propably riding at the front for Wiggins the entire day...And the day before. And then it seems he has accompanied Cavendish in the grupetto when he has done his work.Propably nothing wrong with his form, thats just his job description.Doubt we will see him in a breakaway as he will propably continue working for his leaders the next stages |

I'm quite excited to see how Hesjedal can do at the Giro.
He isn't the greatest TTer, but he does well on short climbs, and also the really long ones if he puts in a good tempo.
I really hope he can get a Top 10-15, but a stage win would be just as nice, same for the King of the Mountains if he went for that.

I think that Hesjedal can do more than that.I think that a top-10 is the mark. He's just good form recently, and I think that with the help of Vande Velde, he could finish highly.
RIP Exxon Duke, David Veilleux, Double Feature, and Monster Energy

TT skills does not matter at Giro much (Garmin has great TTT always so he can only gain there and last TT is more about recuperation imo), but the climbs are maybe too brutal for Hesjedal. But top 10, or stage hunting and fight for KOM is possible i think.

I think some of the climbs are too long for Hesjedal to target the KOM at the Giro, and he wouldn't be given the leeway to enter any breaks.

I'm not sure they are too brutal "now" but once they ride them it might be.
He's a Basso or Nibali, when it comes to climbing. (although he gets out of the saddle and does attack occasionally). And he did do well on the Tourmalet in 2010 so the long climbs aren't his problem imo and neither are the short steep climbs.
Its obvious he's not the best climber in this field but I cant exactly think of a climb that doesn't suit him at all.
And its highly doubtful that he would go for the KOM but he has used as a late stage attacker alot last year, and he's not too bad at the long climbs, if they aren't insanely steep.
But this is the Tour de Romandie thread
And this is getting to "what if..." Hesjedal is riding and I hope he does well. End of.
