Project 1T4i - Bye, bye!
Alakagom
It's going well, it's early season still and Skil took many podiums and is doing great. The victories will come, with such superb train you doing.

Thanks baia, tsmoha and Alakagom. I think it's just a question of time before the win comes.

Had no free time yesterday, thus no reports. Anyway, here's finally the mountain!

Stage 4
Sultan Qaboos University - Jabal ak Akhdar (The Green Mountain)
i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/too_4.jpg
Different from Qatar, this race doesn't only include pan flat stages. Stage 4 is mostly as flat as the other ones, but the last kilometers ramps up to a very steep mountain top finish on The Green Mountain. This is where the overall is expected to be decided, and we will see a big battle up the climb.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/too_4_1.jpg
Dean must've felt that he might struggle to keep his leaders jersey today and therefore attacked on the flat just before the climb was about to start. Very surprising move.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/too_4_2.jpg
Dean was caught, so another sprinter launched an attack. This time Daniel Oss in the white jersey.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/too_4_3.jpg
He was also caught though, and as we started the climb Thor Hushovd attacked! Rogers, Paterski, Efimkin and Frattini saw this as a good opportunity and followed.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/too_4_4.jpg
D'Angelo's Ascani was the next one to make a move, but he couldn't quite bridge the gap to Group Hushovd.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/too_4_5.jpg
Finally, one of the favourites attacking! Dani Moreno with a strong attack.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/too_4_6.jpg
It's too late though, as Efimkin celebrates! What a show by the Russian!

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/too_4_7.jpg
Moreno was really strong today. He caught and passed everyone except Efimkin, Hushovd and Frattini. If he wouldn't have missed the early move I think he would have won the stage. 4th place isn't bad though.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/too_4_8.jpg
Geschke didn't have the legs to follow the big moves on the climb, but still finished 14th, with good chances of moving into the Top 10 in tomorrow's timetrial.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/too_4_9.jpg
Dean fought hard all the way to the top, but loses the red jersey to Efimkin.

I think Geschke will not only get in top10 as i think he will get 8th place......at least.

Di Luca might feel like "Mountain-top.. and me finishing behind Hushovd or Rojas Gil????" Smile Nice... Efimkin obviously a league of his own within that field.. and Geschke did quite well imo! Nice chance for Top-10 in ITT now. Good luck!

Hushovd rode a bike for sure! Pfft (irony if someone doesn't get it Pfft )

Thank you guys! It would be great if Geschke could move into the Top 10.

Sorry for slow updating in the past days. Recently started school plus watching the Vuelta has taken most of my time. I promise that the reports will be faster after this weekend.

Tour du Haut Var

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/thv_1_1.jpg
We're not expecting any notable results here. Huguet is the only one who should be able of delivering a Top 5/10 here, since he's one of few in the team who's in decent shape.
He will get nice backup from Geniez, who is starting his season with this race, and also Sprick and De Backer. Especially the latter one should be a nice help for Huguet because of his good form.
Reimer will go here as sole sprinter, and the hard uphill finish on stage one should favour him, being one of the sprinters who survives a few hills.
Chaigneau and Curvers are also starting their seasons here, Curvers wanting some race days to be in shape during the cobbled classics where he will be the most important helper for Veelers.

Favourites:
*** Gilbert
** Roche, Coppel
* Vanendert, Impey, Gallopin

Who else than Gilbert is the favourite in the hilly races he enters? The Belgian probably isn't in top form though, since there is still two months until the classics. However, even without great form, he will be the man to beat.
Roche should be one of the strongest challengers to Gilbert. The route in this race suits the Irishman very well, being fast enough to possibly grab a few bonus seconds in the uphill sprint and easily staying with the best over the hills on stage two.
Coppel, Impey and Gallopin has all showed great form in the past races, Coppel even leading the Continental rankings. They will also be up there, fighting for a good overall, while Gilbert's team mate Vanendert goes here without as much pressure on him as his team mate. It might be Vanendert who is the strongest of the Omega men though.
I know that Contador, Gesink and Van den Broeck is here, but according to me the route doesn't really suit them as much as the pure punchers.

Stage 1
La Croix Valmer - Grimaud
i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/thv_1.jpg
Not a very hard stage, but it's far from easy. First, the route includes four quite hard KoM climbs. Second, the final kilometer is a very hard uphill sprint in Grimaud, where riders like Gilbert and Roche might be more suited than the pure sprinters.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/thv_1_2.jpg
Robin Chaigneau represented us in the early breakaway, joining five other riders on the route to Grimaud.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/thv_1_3.jpg
Gael Malacarne attacked later in the stage and bridged up to Chaigneau and his companions.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/thv_1_4.jpg
None of them succeeded though, Chaigneau being the last to get caught, with just five kilometers to go.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/thv_1_5.jpg
Gilbert was obviously feeling good today, as he told Bakelants and Vanendert to take him to the front, forming a very strong train.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/thv_1_6.jpg
Gilbert decided to go for a very long sprint, launching with over 2k to go, while De Backer managed to get Reimer to the front just in time.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/thv_1_7.jpg
Neither Gilbert nor Reimer was able to pull of the win though, as Netapp's Impey came from behind and easily won the stage ahead Gallopin and Geslin. Gilbert finished fourth, while Reimer didn't have the legs to challenge.
As I thought, Contador wasn't going to be a serious contender here. He lost over 5 minutes today and won't have anything to do with the overall.

Yea, very nice start. Should be intresting fight between Gilbert and Geslin, I would think. Good luck for Geschke in Oman, hope he improves his position and Van Hummel defends his points jersey Smile

@baia: Thanks. Would be nice if it continued like that.
@Alakagom: It surely will be a nice fight in stage two. About Geschke, I have some good news coming.

Stage 5
Al Jissah (ITT)
i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/too_5.jpg
Stage 5 provides a timetrial which should make the fight for the overall even more interesting. Efimkin leads Hushovd by just 27s and I'm sure that the God of Thunder won't give up this without a serious fight. Also the rest of the Top 10 is pretty close and might be changed completely after this timetrial.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/too_5_1.jpg
First notable time came from Tyler Farrar. The American has failed to deliver any results at all in the mass sprints, but shows signs of rising form by setting the new best time.
30'24

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/too_5_2.jpg
Menchov didn't have the legs to answer to the attacks yesterday and is far behind in the overall. Here he disappointed once again, not being able to beat Farrar's time.
30'27

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/too_5_3.jpg
Andrey Kashechkin is another rider we had expected more from yesterday, but he blew away all questionmarks on how his form is by crushing Farrar's time by 15s! Definitely a time to beat today.
29'09

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/too_5_4.jpg
Christian Vande Velde didn't meet the expectations today and finished on a quite weak time.
30'43

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/too_5_5.jpg
Former French champion Peraud then, can he do something extraordinary today? Well, a quite good time, but far from good enough to even challenge Kashechkin.
30'28

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/too_5_6.jpg
Julian Dean dominated the first stages in this race, but lost too much time yesterday. Nothing special from him today either.

Very good time from Steve Cummings, but he wasn't able to beat Kashechkin either.
30'21

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/too_5_8.jpg
Mick Rogers then? Can the recent Tour Down Under champion challenge Kashechkin? No. Good time, but not good enough.
30'22

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/too_5_9.jpg
Here we go, Simon Geschke! Motivated by a possible Top 10 overall after the stage, he flew around the course and finished on second best time, losing only 4s to Kashechkin!
30'13

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/too_5_11.jpg
Ding, ding, ding! New best time! Johan Van Summeren with a super ride, defending his Top 10 spot with ease.
29'58
In the background you see Rojas, who started behind Van Summeren. The Spaniard also rode surprisingly fast today, keeping Geschke behind him in the overall standings.
30'19

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/too_5_10.jpg
D'Angelo's Ascani was strong yesterday, and continued to show good form by clocking the same time as Geschke.
30'13

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/too_5_12.jpg
Another huge surprise yesterday, Maciej Paterski, now riding in the white jersey. Timetrials isn't his speciality and the Polishman lost quite a lot of time today.
30'54

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/too_5_13.jpg
Probably the strongest rider yesterday, Daniel Moreno was unlucky to miss the decisive move. He lost his chance of an overall success by not winning yesterday and was pushed down to 5th overall today by Van Summeren.
30'26

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/too_5_14.jpg
Davide Frattini also lost some time today, but defended his third place overall by just three seconds to Van Summeren.
30'56

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/too_5_15.jpg
Hushovd rode in a jersey we aren't used to see him in today, wearing polkadots after finishing second on The Green Mountain yesterday. His time was a bit disappointing though, but he stays on second overall.
30'45

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/too_5_16.jpg
That means only one rider left out on the course, Efimkin in the red jersey. He finished on a good time, but he wasn't fast enough to steal the stage win from Van Summeren. Still, the Russian did what was needed today, defended his overall lead.

Nice top10 with Skil in Oman.

laidbackmarc
Indeed, nice top-10. Skil Shimano isn't the best climbing team. You have an great sprinting team now, (Van Hummel, Kittel). In your PCM'10 story you had a climbing team. However, I think Skil is an better team and you have big chances of getting promoted.

Tour du Haut Var

Stage 2
Draguignan - Draguignan
i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/thv_2.jpg
The second stage is classified as a hilly one, but it isn't very hard. The difficult part will be the little climb topping out with just 15 kms to go. A strong attack there can hold all the way, but the stage will most likely end up in a mass sprint from a decimated peloton. Hilly sprinters like Geslin and Dumoulin will be dangerous today, or possibly even Philippe Gilbert.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/thv_2_1.jpg
Only one rider in the early breakaway, Bretagne's Bideau.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/thv_2_2.jpg
He wasn't solo for the whole stage though, as Damuseau and Kobzarenko joined him later, forming a leading trio.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/thv_2_3.jpg
They weren't successful today though, as they were caught just as we started the final hill. Damuseau decided to give it one last try but didn't succeed.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/thv_2_4.jpg
With a kilometer to the top, Huguet attacked. It was a really powerful attack and he quickly created a gap to what was left of the peloton.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/thv_2_5.jpg
With three km's to the line Huguet still held a small advantage, but a small group containing Roche, Impey and Gilbert was closing in on him and the peloton wasn't far behind either.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/thv_2_6.jpg
It was all back together in the sprint and Saur's Hivert took a nice victory in the mass sprint. Cofidis' Gallopin finished second, giving him enough bonus seconds to steal the overall victory from Impey!
De Backer, Huguet and Reimer finished 8th-10th, and Reimer also ended up 4th overall, thanks to the bonus seconds he picked up at the intermediate sprints today.

FreitasPCM
Nice top-10 overall. Reimer surprising a bit, didn't expect to pass that final climb. Pfft

Spilak23
Good ride by taking the intermediate sprint and finishing fourth in GC

Tooom3k
Really nice results in Oman with Van Hummel in green and Geschke in Top 10. Good luck in last one Wink

Pellizotti2
Thanks for the support guys! And Freitas, the hill was too short to create any selection. Reimer started it from the front of the peloton and therefore easily stayed in the group over the top. Unfortunately he was too tired to be able to do a nice sprint later though.

Tour of Oman

Stage 6
Qurayyat - Mattrah Seafront
i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/too_6.jpg
After the two days where the overall has been decided, we're now back in Oman as we're used to see it - flat. There is a KoM though, and it's not an easy one. Fortunately for the sprinters, it comes very early in the stage and will most likely not prevent the stage from ending in a mass sprint. The finish is uphill though, and that might provide some problems for the weak sprinters.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/too_6_1.jpg
Hupond attacked directly at the start to win the KoM sprint. It succeeded.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/too_6_2.jpg
The very steep climb was ridden at a very hard pace, which caused a split in the peloton! Overall riders like Moreno, Ascani, Di Luca and the white jersey of Paterski was caught in the second peloton.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/too_6_5.jpg
We saw this as a good opportunity to improve Geschke's overall position, so we sent up a few of our riders to keep a high pace in the peloton.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/too_6_3.jpg
Not far later we came to the intermediate sprint. We set up a small train to try to pick up some more important points with Van Hummel.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/too_6_4.jpg
It worked perfectly, as Van Hummel got the 6 points while Geschke managed to take second place and 4 bonus seconds! Dean also picked up some points by finishing third.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/too_6_6.jpg
No early breakaway formed because of the high pace in the pack, but three riders managed to go clear with 50 k to go. Some good names in the shape of Flecha, Paolini and Kadri.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/too_6_7.jpg
A while later, the second peloton finally caught the tail of the first one and it was all back together, as the three attackers were also caught.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/too_6_8.jpg
Garmin-Cervélo took control at the front as the sprint came closer, while we managed to set up a small train for Van Hummel.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/too_6_9.jpg
With five km's left, Geschke took command in the peloton and moved his three team mates Kluge, Docker and Van Hummel to the front. Only one of the other sprinters decided to follow our train instead of Garmin's - Hushovd.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/too_6_10.jpg
As the sprint kicked off, Hushovd surprised us by accelerating out of Van Hummel's wheel and taking the lead. Van Hummel did his best to close the gap to the Norwegian, but the slight uphill was really hurting him.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/too_6_11.jpg
And Hushovd held on to take the stage win ahead of his team mate Dean. Van Hummel finished 6th and saved his points jersey from Dean by just one single point!

Great reports, great podiums and nice overall results by Geschke and Reimer. Also nice with green jersey by Van Hummel, it is funny that Hushovd prevented Dean from taking it Smile
I really love your story, probably my favourite one here.

Btw. do you have "no filter" option in the graphics?Your screens are great and i am now deciding if turn it off in my game too.
I'll be back

Wow, massive thanks for the nice words! Comments like this gives me motivation to make even better reports.

And I agree it was quite funny that Hushovd stole the points from Dean. Those Norwegians! Pfft

To your question - Yes, I use no fiter. Looks best for screenshots imo.

To everyone - sorry for the lack of reports. Vuelta + school takes all my time, but I do my best to write reports when I have the time. Next report probably this afternoon. Thank you for your patience!
