Fourth Stage is another flat stage. After the first hard stage, the GC has been shaped and the favourites shown. We expect HTC to do loads of work today, with Mark clearly being the fastest rider in Tour Down Under on his day.Astana, Sky and Garmin should play some part too.
Pre-Tactics Meeting
Pretty transitional stage for us, after celebrations of yesterday's win and looking ahead for more important stage tomorrow. We will be looking for another podium place, but I think Hagen's shape isn't at its best to win against Cavnedish if it came to it.
It's Eddy coming up the front showing his leader's jersey. That's the plan today. Stay up front and avoid any crashes.
With the King of Mountain Points being so close to the start we decided to attack with Simon on the first uphill of the day.
He was followed by two riders, Johnny Hoogerland (Vacansoleil) and Jacopo Guarnieri ( Liquigas ). Hoogerland is definte threat for the KoM jersey so we must be cautious about his attempts today.
Simon put brave attack, 1.4km form the finish, he was followed closely by Hoogerland, but was just beaten on the line. Anyway, we are quite happy with the result, as that's another 12 points and Gerrans will definitely try to go to the break tomorrow again.
King of Mountains Points
Spoiler
1st Johnny Hoogerland (Vacansoleil)
2nd Simon Gerrans (Sky)
3rd Antonio Santoro (Androni)
The break had been joined by another 3 riders, but with tomorrow's stage being for the GC's guys, I do not think the sprinters teams would miss today's opportunity.
Surprisingly most of the stage the peleton was controlled by Movistar. We didn't have bright idea why, but that means less work for us and our HTC friends.
2.5km to go and we overslept a bit, our train didn't look to well and Hagen lost the wheel, he didn't have brillaint day altogether. Cavendish's train was the best positioned, as always, but Alan Davis was sitting comfortably on his wheel, could he sprung a surprise ?
Yes he could. He was in brilliant position and finished the move off in the last 200 metres, passing bemused Cavendish, he rarely looses in a sprint and this time he is quite angry with himself. Edvald finished on 5th, much better than I expected seeing the final lead-out.

After-Tactics Meeting
5th isn't bad here. Yes, we messed up the train, but Hagen didn't feel best so 5th is quite good. Alan got deserved win and closes in the rankings, though tomorrow is the stage we expect a stage win, either from Gerrans or Eddy. Today we might have overslept a little. Tomorrow we won't.
The Queen Stage of Tour Down Under coming up tomorrow so stay tuned and thanks very much for following !
As you said, 5th is quite good there. Now take the lead home over the Willunga Hill!
Just a very, very small note: If you put the flag in front of the name instead of behind the place (so after the TAB), the flags are all in the same column, so that you would have

Hope that you understand what I mean. But this is such a minor detail and also a matter of taste. Your story keeps on being very, very nice.
@cunego59 Thanks, it planned out slightly differently, but the racing was hell exciting
Thanks for the tip, looks much better now Thanks very much again
@Flash127
Thanks Today it was the story of different rider, but we hope EBH can show himself tomorrow too.
Tour Down Under - Stage 5
Point - Willunga
Fith stage of this year's route is the also the Queen Stage. The only realy difficutly of the day will come 50km from the finish, when the mighty Willunga Hill must be passed twice. Perfect day for sprinter with decent hilly abilities, Eddy's big favourite here.
Pre-Tactics Meeting
Chcecking the last results of this stage here, we have decided to send someone into break. And there's no one better than Simon, who should secure his King Of Mountains Jersey here, if everything goes as planned. That will save us from doing a lot of work in the peleton, if the break doesn't go all the way, we have Eddy to finish the job off for us. Let's see how it plans out in actions and not the words !
The break today involves 10 riders. We succeeded in getting in the break with Simon, again. From the threats here, Romain Feillu (Vacansoleil) and last rider to join the break Robbie Hunter (Radiosahck) are closest in the overall to Eddy.
4 riders tried an attack before the Willunga even begun, but there were shortly caught after Gerrans pulled the break.
And it's Gerrans taking all the KoM points on the first Climber's point. He set the pace all the way up and is rewarded. The time gap to the peleton is looking dangerously high, the break has a chance today, HTC is pulling with all the might now, but it might be all too late. with 30km to go:

Robbie Hunter (RSH)
2km form the Willunga finish, Gerrans heard a noise in the earpiece. Attack ! And so he did. The peleton was not going to catch the break and Gerrans had the best chance of the stage win and even taking lead of the overall now. Nobody from the break reacted.
10km to go ! The gap is slightly over 40 seconds. It's looking good as Simon is trying to preserve some energy now and isn't going full out. The cheering fans motivate him even further. Can he do it ?
Yes he can. Much deserved win after being in almost very break in this race. The sprint for seconds is won by Ponzi. Robbie Hunter takes the overall lead, 24 seconds ahead of Simon. The pack comes at + 3'14 down.

After-Tactics Meeting
Strange feeling. We won the stage. We secured Clibmer's jersey, but at the same time we lost the Overall Lead. And you know what ? We are happy with that. Yeah, we not leading anymore but we got what we came for, a stage win, now even two, and with that we look to win also the two jerseys. We have two riders in Top 3 Overall rankings. That's pretty good and we are happy with the decision we made today. No hard feelings. and now let's enjoy the win !
The hard work paid off at the end, as Robbie is only one stage away from winning his biggest race yet !
Nice stage result, reached your goals, but still I think it would have been better to chase down the break and then winn with Boasson Hagen out of a smaller group.
Possible stage win and probably overall win.
Interesting outcome indeed. A very succesful Tour for you. But still everything can happen for you in the GC as well, I think in PCM 11, there are a lot of big crashes in Adelaide, so who knows...

Thanks Yea, it was really hard decision, at halfway point I just pasued the game and thought, I pretty much knew the break would stay at that point. I gambled, but it made the racing more exciting and I guess cycling should be exciting. We could walked away with lead here, but having two guys on the podium isn't bad either.

Thanks very much Yea, our first race and we are very happy with the results, we started this season arguably as the best team in Pro Tour, and we going to show it to the end. Yea, experienced that in lot of stories, though we would rahter win this tour ''cleanly''

Great win for Gerrans + secured KoM-lead! 2nd and 3rd in GC is a great achievement so far. And maybe there's a chance for even more at final stage?!
Thanks We look at it they way you do, couldn't be more happier with our team and how they rode so far. Aye, hoping for some good daily form too boost our chances as well
FreitasPCM wrote:
You secured the climber's jersey and another stage win. I think it's positive actually. You also got two riders on the podium.
Thanks Aye, we think absolutely the same. Looking at it, I just prefer to have Simon and Eddy on podium, than Eddy only winning. Maybe silly thinking by me, but as for the start of the season, this start it isn't too bad.
Tooom3k wrote:

Yea, it is. Hope it becomes even better with the next stage. Think the goal is securing the points jersey, which will mean beating Cavendish on the day. One pretty exciting 90kms in front of us ! And thanks a lot
Thanks for all the comments, really appreciated and keeping me very motivated. Big thanks to the readers too for following ! Stay tuned for this year fast finale in Adelaide !
It's really an good fight about the best Sky story on this forum (a new PCM.Daily award?) This looks promising though, keep it up and win the Tour with Löfkvist!

Thanks very much, let's hope so Though we are happy with how things stand so far.

Good idea And thanks We are defitnely going to try to win the Tour. To make the story more realistic I plan to race the same schedules and very smilar calendar to what Sky is doing this year, so Löfkvist is going to try and win Giro. Hard task, but we think we can do some great things there !
Stage 6 Coming up in about 30min - 1 hour. Stay Tuned !
A short and pretty flat criterium in Adelaide ends the Tour Down Under. We expect no big changes to the overall, though everything is possible. Today the marked rider will be Mark Cavendish, who stayed pretty quiet after his stage win on stage 1. Davis, Farrar and Eddy will try to challenge the Missile.
Pre-Tactics Meeting
Today with the stage only at 93km, we can't do much to split the pack. The only hoping we have is for some crash, as the attacks won't work here. Though we will try to forget overall and focus on getting podium or even a stage win with Edvald to end this Tour on a high.
First 20kms we decided to set furious tempo to see how the peleton reacts. We stretched out the field tremendously, but Robbie Hunter was protected by his whole team sitting up the front. We decided to ease off.
17 riders strong break broke away after we eased the tempo off. They were likely to be caught at the finish, so we decided not to help HTC and Garmin.
RadioShack was doing tremendous job for Robbie, keeping him at the front of the peleton, being guarded safely by Radioshacks.
10km to go, the remains of the break had only 30 seconds now, although one rider took the opportunity and attacked. Frédéric Guesdon ( FDJ ) has one minute advantage at this point, no way could he make it ? Could he ? We decided to take control and form our train early.
3km to go and Sutton is leading out. Frédéric is still holding 20 seconds of advantage and we think he will make it. We loose bit of motivation, fighting only for 2nd.
Frédéric Guesdon wins the final stage with an brilliantly timed attack from the break. Alan davis takes 2nd and Edvlad Boasson Hagen takes 3rd. With Cavendish finishing only 8th, that means he wins Points Jersey. Good bonus to his 3d overall already. Robbie came safely in the pack, with no crashes on the stage. Well done to him and the Radioshack team !

After-Race Meeting
As promised we did end the race on the high. We didn't win, but we got another podium and secured Points Jersey. Overall the race must be considered big success for us. I know many will be disappointed we didn't win the Overall, but we are happy with Eddy and Simon, both taking stage and sweeping one jersey each. We can't be disappointed on the outcome. That's all from Tour Down Under folks and stay tuned for our next race in Marsellaise !
News will follow shortly, as well as The Pro Tour rankings being updated. Stay Tuned !
Definitely not a disappointing race for Sky Nice 3rd for EBH in final stage, great win for Guesdon.. overall with two podiums, three jerseys for Sky.. an Aussie on 2nd.. well done!
Today it has been announced that Sky Pro Cycling Racing's Directeur Sportif will lead Great Britain at the World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark in September.
The biggest hopes of a medal at the event will be with Bradley Wiggins and David Millar in the Time Trial, and of course, the 'Manx Missile' Mark Cavendish will be looking for glory in the Road Race.
Sponsors Announcements
Cannondale has announced that it has prolonged its partnership until 2015, with Liquigas which is managed by Robert Amadio.
RadioShack has announced that it will prolong its partnership with the team managed by Johan Bruyneel until 2013.

Chris Froome
Chris Froome is one of the most talented British climber in generation, already showing his talent we expect many great things from his in the future.
Christopher Sutton
Christopher maybe isn't best sprinter, but his work capability and general domestique work added to his spritning ability make him great rider to have in a team.
