Still, forza Matt, always Forza!
Ottaviani probably with the most amazing solo-breakaway in history of cycling.

Mresuperstar - Indeed he has...
VoetsT - Thanks
Schleck96 - Let's hope it doesn't come to that
rogvi97 - Yeah, business is a-booming
Shonak - Ottaviani will be a happy man, can't deny that! Quite the effort on his behalf |

The Giro was filled with mountains and hills all the way to the final stage.
Yesterday, the Giro came to an end. It was the final chance for us to score a stage victory, as the terrain finally flattened out again. I still had one tiny chance at something amazing. Read more!
Giro d'Italia - Stage 21
The final stage.
I tried taking as many points as possible during the intermediate sprints in the mountain stages.
Now, just 198 km from the end of the Giro, I am 32 points behind Uran for the Points Jersey.
Today, there will be a maximum of 33 points to be earned...
Points Classification before stage 21 1 | Rigoberto Urán | Lotto Belisol | 173 | 2 | Chris Froome | Team Sky | 158 | 3 | Vincenzo Nibali | Lampre - Merida | 143 | 4 | Matthias Vleminckx | Orica GreenEdge | 141 | 5 | Nairo Quintana | Movistar Team | 139 |
Profile
One intermediate sprint, worth 8 points, and a finish worth 25 points. I can win the Points Jersey if and only if I win both sprints and Uran doesn't take a single point.
Bring on the hunt!
A breakaway of 9 got away at the start of the stage. I felt bad about it, but I had to ask the guys to work incredibly hard on this final stage to bring me to the intermediate sprint and catch up with the breakaway before we got there.
So damn close! I caught the breakaway 5 meters before the line of the intermediate sprint. My heart was exploding.
Part 1 of our plan was complete. The DS spoke to me and told me that I now just had to win the stage and Uran couldn't finish top 15. Oh, is that all, sir?
8 kilometers from the finish, all of our men were slain. The peloton slowed down a bit and suddenly Uran attacked! What? We were panicking big time now! Like a threatened animal, he fled, trying to defend his jersey.
Luckily, other sprinters shared our panic, and the chase was on. He was strong, though, and stayed out of our reach. Come on, come on!
I pushed and pushed and pushed. Ewan brought me to the final 100 meters like a true pilot, meanwhile we had passed Uran, just in time! I sprinted for my life! Harder!
And made it!
But where would Uran finish? He couldn't finish top 15 here.

It took every single drop of blood and sweat I had, but I came home with the Red Points Jerse and 5 stage victories, including a Team Time Trial.
I'm a very, very happy man.
I'm a very, very tired man.
I'll you see later!

Fantastic performance throughout those 3 weeks. Matt showed that he can hold up quite well in a Grand Tour, especially by winning the last stage. Wonder what's in store for him once he decides his (new/old/re-designed) path.

Selwink - Yeah, that last stage was intense
Atlantius - I quite agree. More successful than his Tour last year.
FonsDeSpons - That's what she said
sutty68 - I never expected to contend for the points jersey but now it tastes even sweeter
VoetsT - With a bit of luck and a super team!
Shonak - Yeah, winning that last stage showed that he recuperated quite nicely. Also because he took it easy in the final mountain stages, though
jona500 - Luckily!
Jesleyh - Indeed. Same points would've meant Uran took the jersey!
Martial1 - Thanks |

Thanks for the amazing comment severyone!
I'm doing a lot of work for the PCM 14 project. I hope nobody blames me when I say that has priority over this (maybe you don't understand now, but you will in a few weeks!).
And once the 14 thing is out there, you'll all forget about this anyway
I'll try to get another update here soon, but I'm super busy at the moment. Hang in there! thanks for the patience. |

You guys are setting some very high expectations with all of these comments. You better justify them, then.
