Today is one of the bigger classics of the season, and this has drawn a strong startlist. I have no ambitions of winning or even bothering about my position. Instead I will be working for Thomas or Eddy, Maaskant getting support from the remainder of the team. The weather is great, so riding should be quite enjoyable until the pace gets to be too much!
Team Sky take a quick turn at the front, to show off their new jerseys to the TV camera's as well as the crowds on the streetsides.
Six riders get a gap of 3 minutes as the breakaway of the day! No one of real importance, but of course the peloton still has to be wary in case of any miscalculations in the chasing of the break!
With 40km left in the stage, some of the favourites teams, like Lotto - Ridley send some men to the front to help chase back the breakaway riders.
With 25km left, a small group from the former Peloton has gone ahead as the main chase group, however not long after they join forces with the 6 breakaway riders. This group contains, Maaskant, Thomas and Eddy, however the pace was too high for me. They have a gap of around 1 minute and look good for one of these riders to settle for the win.
In the final 10km, Tom Boonen and Willems go on the attack, a good move for Lotto, with Gilbert still back in the main chase group. Boonen is a strong sprinter and cant be underestimated either.
But the sprint starts with Boonen and Willems group having an advantage of only about 10 seconds. Maaskant starts out strong but he's proably started his sprint too early. Hushovd is coming from the side, as well as Haussler!
But the God of Thunder takes the win, his biggest of the season so far, for his new team Lampre! Haussler gets 3rd, Boasson Hagen 8th, Maaskant 10th!

Lovely jersey, I like it a lot! Also, two men in the Top 10 is a good result.

@ Cunego and tsmoha - Thanks guys! Boasson Hagen had a lot less energy in the sprint, but his sprint value was a lot better than most other riders in the group, so I guess it went well
@ Avin - Thanks, you're right Except nothing happened on the cobbles in this race Probably because of the PCM 10 AI!

Oh and btw, I have more motivation for this at the moment so the update pace should go up again. Probably not like in the summer though

February Wrap up | March Preview
Thanks for reading everyone! I'm back at my computer after another month of racing, although not too much for me! In February, I had 2 races I participated in, the Tour du Haut Var and Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, one of the bigger classics of the season, and the first official cobbled classic! My results at the Tour du Haut Var were not that great, and I felt I could have done a little better, but the team worked well together and thats the most important thing in the earlier months of the season. Then in Belgium I rode my first cobbled race in quite a long time, and its cliché but no matter how much practice you get on the cobblestones, it isn't the same as in race conditions. My body was very sore after, but I made sure to protect Eddy from the wind for most of the stage, so I felt like I contributed and thus I am happy!
For March, I have only one race scheduled and its the Classic Loire Atlantique in France! I look forward to the race, and I hope I can rejoin some of my Europcar mates and have a good time there. Of course even though I dont have much race days, I will still be training as much as I can, but touring France is always nice!

Team Sky Wins in February
Tour of Oman - Stage 4, Overall - Bauke Mollema
Currently uncontracted for 2014
I haven't had any news with Team Sky yet, so the next few months I will be looking to stand out amongst the rest of the team in the hope that I get a contract offer to stay with the team.

Dear Crommy,
I'm sorry to have to say this, but I can't answer your question seriously as I just dont know the answer to it. However I will say that Monty Python is great!

Question for David
How do you like the life in Europe? Is it much different to the life in Canada?
Your sincere fan, Johnny Guitar
Dear Johnny Guitar,
Thank you! I love living in Europe. Europe is very beautiful and I think I have the best job in the world for someone that wants to see more and more of Europe. I basically get to travel to France, Spain, Italy and Germany for very little and enjoy the scenery, as well as do my job! The food is good too! But I do miss my family back home in Canada, but I visit them every off season or if I have a long break in my race schedule.
Thanks everyone, I'll be taking 2 Questions for my next Blog update!

To David
Hey David,
Now, I know you've probably been asked this a thousnad times, but what race do you hope, when your career is done and dusted, you've won? Is it maybe one of the Canadian GP's, or a stage at Le Tour? I'd love to hear back!

Classic Loire Atlantique
March 20th, 2013
ProTour Results This Month
Paris - Nice - Overall Winner - Alejandro Valverde
Tirreno - Adriatico - Overall Winner - Damiano Cunego
It's a big test for me today! I will be the leader for the team, and looking at who is here (*sorry I forgot to export startlist) I can try for a high finish. My legs are feeling a little rusty from about a month without racing. The race is a little hilly so its perfect for my skills, and the weather is great again in France, so it should be a good ride for me, as long as I avoid any crashes or flats.
The first move of the stage was from Arvesen who got in a solo breakaway and also gave the team a lot of television coverage.
With 100km left Arvesen was joined by Bonsergent and the duo had a maximum of 7 minutes lead before they were brought back with only 10km left in the stage!
A few km's later Russell Downing attacked on one of the smaller hills, in which he only got a small gap, although a great effort, and possibly weakening the group for me!
I started the sprint at the front as I thought I could get a gap and hopefully that would be enough to take the victory, surprising the rest, but it wasn't meant to be!
Geslin and Finetto both passed me in the final 400m's which meant I started my sprint much too early again. However I can still gee a Top 5 which is still a good finish!
And there it is! Geslin 1st, Finetto 2nd and I held on for 4th, which is still a pleasing result, knowing who I'm up against!

Nice jersey you made, nice 4th place you started to early. If you waited 4-5-6 seconds you could maybe have won |
