Selwink - That's the plan!
Jakstar22 - Me neither!
Martial1 - Let's hope he can pull it off!
FonsDeSpons - Well after an injury, I thought it might be better to delay the return by another 2 weeks and then drop a bomb
TimoCycling - Without a strong team to back him up, we had to come up with a way we could do the Ronde without having to carry the race.
the_hoyle - Glad you like it his form is not very high, though, so I was rather surprised I managed to hold on and sprint for the win!
sutty68 - Always nice to see, right |

Wow. Matt really writes history now. But perhaps it wasnt too clever to make that interview already before Roubaix. Now Bradley and Bradley have to work so hard at the next race to prepare the double for Matt

You may be right The other teams will be wanting revenge. I'm afraid Roubaix won't come easy. The team will have to work hard and we no longer have the best cobbled team and Matt's form is good but not good enough that he can solo for 60 km...
Hope it works, but it'll be a hard, hard race |

Paris - Roubaix 2017
Okay, the masks have fallen off now. I played a dangerous game with De Ronde and I won. It was close to a miracle, but I did it. I only have 6 race days on my counter so far, including 2 victories. You can't say my legs are in bad shape! But Roubaix never lies for a second. In the Ronde I was able to drift along with Vanbilsen and Vanmarcke. Today I'll have to make the race myself.
Profile
Today we didn't have a specific battle plan. Just to do our best. Let's hope that would be enough.
Today we saw a pretty large break of 14 riders, including Caleb Ewan.
The weather conditions were awful.
Which was good for me, actually, I like it this way!
And then, when the final breakaway member was caught (Ewan), the attacks came!
The first ones were fake, I could see it. Just some guys testing their legs and our reaction. I stayed cool. When Vanmarcke went again, I decided to follow.
And then, it was back to the three of us: Vanbilsen, Vanmarcke, Vleminckx. It's getting to be a habbit!
But they had no intention of riding with me today. Obviously holding a grudge from last week, we got caught by a rather large group. Vandenbergh sneaked off alone.
Meanwhile, I wasn't feeling too strong. For the second year in a row, Roubaix sapped my strength near the final 10 kilometers... Luckily it wasn't as bad as last year.
Still, I was driven to get a good result here. Even if I couldn't win, I wanted to finish high up! So I made the jump forward, my legs burning like hell.
We clutched together in a small group. Three guys were gone, so we'd sprint for place 4. A larger group had already started the sprint behind us, though!
Vandenbergh took the victory of his career, what a performance from him!
I managed to win the sprint for the 4th place! I'm happy, not overjoyed, but content.

Today wasn't bad, but it wasn't as good as I hoped, too.
I definitely wasn't the strongest in this year's cobbled campaign, but still I managed to take home the big one, De Ronde, by much cunning and tactical game. I guess I can be happy about that. Even in a lesser early season, I took home a major victory.
Because of my injury and my late season start, I still have a large margin to improve in form. The team decided to send me to the Giro d'Italia this year. I'm quite excited about that, I think I'll like it better than the Tour de France.
This also means I'll probably get a shot at starting in the Tour de Pologne!
See you next week, for the Amstel,
Matthias |

Fantastic win in Vlaanderen
We just forget P-R, or maybe not, a top 5 is still an amazing result

No double this year. But Matt still has ten years to achieve that
Looking forward to the Giro. Should be a nice challenge against the top sprinters. I predict more stage wins than in the TdF last year. (at least if no more story twists occur till then )

NTTHRASH - Thanks, I didn't think you'd still be following this
Martial1 - Hmm, it's a very mountainous profile, points jersey will probably go to a GC contender, but Matt might go his chance!
VoetsT - Thanks! Well, Roubaix was good, but to be honest I couldn't expect a win there. After such a late season start, I was more than happy to take De Ronde!
Shonak - Though note he didn't win in a sprint. They just caught up with him a bit too late, but he didn't outsprint anyone
sutty68 - Thanks!
knockout - He sure has. The Giro will be interesting, I'm curious to see what sprinters will start there.
Jakstar22 - Thanks yeah, I hope so.
As I thought, I've slowed down a lot. Like I said before, admin duties come first. I haven't been up to playing PCM a lot lately.
Hope to get the Amstel out tomorrow, though! |

Haven't posted here before of one simple reason: I missed the first week and wanted to get it from the start to avoid spoilers.
Due to having a work day today mainly consisting of sitting and waiting I'm now up to date with Vlaeminckx's amazing first seasons.
Some very strong results from the start but he is far from being a world-dominator as his ups and downs prove. I will look forward to follow where he goes on from here. Hopefully it's the last time I'll have 36 pages to catch up with

Don't feel bad the uploading pace might dwindle a bit as I couldn't keep up anyway with your speed Very miraculous win in Vlaanderen, the comparison with Boonen seems to end as you seem to like Vlaanderen more then Roubaix! Good luck in Limburg and supernice to see Matt returning to one of his favorite stageraces: Poland!

sutty68 - Thanks
Atlantius - So glad to see you've caught up! He's surely not a world dominator, though I think that on an up-day, he's almost unbeatable on the cobblestones
jona500 - Yeah, I didn't expect Matt to like de Ronde better than Roubaix, but it turns out he does
Martial1 - Thanks a lot, mate
the_hoyle - Giro is a great race, and it'll be interesting to see Matthias racing there.
I really have a lot to do. So I'm afraid I'm gonna have to change something here. Let me think this over, how I can keep doing the story and cope with the limited time.
I might do less updates about more races and only to one-report-per-race when they are really, really important. What would you think about that?
For example, now I'd race the three Ardennes Classics and I'd only report on them in 1 single update, maybe without screenshots even.
I'm just thinking how I can continue the story all the way thrrough with a lot of stuff going on. |
