@ALL - This is my last complete pre-written piece. The next 4/5 are written and just need polishing. The plan is to pick up the pace from the weekend and get back to a one-a-day(two-days) posting schedule. Also thanks for second Awards Nomination, will Karl be around for a third?
Act 9: Redemption
Scene 29: State of Intent
Just after the decent I was joined by old teammate Kwiatkowski, now riding for O2, and the ever aggressive Offredo. We worked well together taking strong relays each in an attempt to steal early GC time. Node4 was left alone to the chase, our rivalry might have influenced other teams.
We lead by 1'20 entering into Dumfries with 3km to go. Michal and I kind of let Offredo take the stage win. We were more focused on keeping as much time gap as possible for our GC ambitions. Node4's Rowe clocked in 4th place 1'09 behind us. Node4 had made their position clear to me but they didn't have the answer if I had help.
My plan from here was to stick to them like glue until Stage 5 into Bristol which was a day i'd marked as one to win. If they didn't want me to win then they could ride in front of me all the way to London. Although i'd have to watch Michal as well now because I am here to win this race. One stage down and the play was set.

@ALL - Still not up to my prefered speed thanks to being ill last week and uni starting up. However i'm still working away and pushing hard to get this finished in the next month or two. Also thanks for the two votes, 100% increase on last year! Perhaps i can get 3 votes in 2016 and hit double digits for nominations without a win...
Act 9: Redemption
Scene 30: Blacktop
Jumping south the the west coast winds would provide the real challenge today. Realistically this would negate serious attacks and I would just have to watch for mechanicals, not a problem. The team was briefed to keep me sheltered all day and not to chase the break, FDJ could deal with that.
The winds were high but luckily they were coming straight up the road rather than across. As a result the break collapsed with 20km to run and no-one fancied a futile solo move. Node4 kicked into gear to give Rowe his lead-out, being challenged by Bennett and his Alpecin team. The two dueled to the line with the Brit raining victorious.
In the warmdown area after the stage the air was noticably tense. The organisers placed us next to Node4 and sharp looks were exchanged between squads. Press lingered hoping for some sort of confrontation. “You're not going to beat us! We've trained harder and longer for this than you. We have a right to win this race.” The remark came from one of the staff. I dismounted my bike and walked right up to him, face-to-face, only separated by a metal barrier.
“You have no right to this race. If you want to win then you go and win it. I'll be riding my bike and I will do my talking out there on the asphalt.”

@Commenters - It's been 4 years (of Karl time) and the attitudes to Node4 havn't changed much
Act 9: Redemption
Scene 31: Cold War, Part I
The Stoke-on-Trent stage has been a significant part of the Tour of Britain since it's return in 2004. Yet again this year it would prove key. A shark-tooth profile of terribly short yet sharp climbs and a slightly cobbles final climb to the finish line in the city center. A real danger stage 3 in a string of tough days.
As per the plan a break went away. The biggest name was Jack Wiles, harking back a few years that name. We were not going to chase because no-one posed real threat to us. FDJ and Node4 and O2 were happy to chase. However the breakaway today was set on a fight and with 20km to go the gap was still about 3'00.
Seeing the chasing efforts of Node4 dwindling I sent my guys to the front to up the pace. This wasn't just about closing the gap but putting Node4 under challenge. We broke much of the peloton quickly cutting it down to barely 40 riders with 10km to go. Still though Node4 persisted for the most part in Kennaugh and Rowe and two helpers.

Scene 32: Cold War, Part II
I got Asselman and Henttala to relax a bit and Offredo took this as a chance to attack. With the break still 2'00 ahead it wasn't a winning attack but the GC was still very much a fight this early on. Kwiatkowski followed as did Kennaugh and a few others. I did not want to do this I wanted to wait.
Powerfull work from Asselman, Henttala, Sobota and Mihaylov managed to control things but there was still a tricky 5km to ride. This time Node4 stepped the pace up sending Rowe to the front with Sampson and Grivell-Mellor. The peloton kept shedding riders and was now down to about 20, I still had some help left in Henttala and Sobota.
The break was guaranteed the win at this point but we were locked in our duels behind. The fans must have loved seeing this play out in TV. The final climb was only about 500m long and only about 4-5% but it was lightly cobbled. Hitting it Rowe sprinted hard with Kennaugh behind. Kwiatkowski was there as was Offredo. I chose to lock onto Kennaughs wheel for the finish.

@ALL - Decided to re-write Scene 34-37 but i should get them sorted at the weekend so shouldn't slow too much. Getting this one up now because i won't have time tomorrow or Friday.
Act 9: Redemption
Scene 33: Cold War, Part III
Wiles was no match for his breakaway companions taking an easy win upfront. Kwiatkowski closed up to finish 4th place only 33” behind. Kennaugh was 5th at the same time, I was on his wheel in 6th. Offredo was 9th and Rowe finished 13th. The next gap was given in 22nd place. We'd fought a battle but all come out at a draw.
The press were all over us all at the finish clamouring to get a line on the rivalries. I gave them no satisfaction choosing to duck down a side street instead of heading for the Team Bus. The short couple of kilometers to the hotel was excellent for clearing my head and making sense of things. Node4 were out to get to me and honestly it was working.
Luckily the press were all at the stage finish so I could enter the hotel in peace. However as my life seems to dictate drama is never far away. I'd give you three guesses as to who was waiting for me but it's only going to be one of three people.
