Was interesting to see that neither Boom or Vanmarcke stayed back to help Mollema. Probably a goodd idea not to and it paid off.
Belkin would have been 1-2 if Vanmarcke didn't puncture.
And Mollema 10 seconds ahead of Contador and only about 2'40 down on Nibbles.

Also amazing Lieuwe Westra... did a fantastic job for Nibali, who is know 2 minutes ahead of everyone.
Westra was indeed great, but what about the guy coming in as second of the stage, sitting all day by Nibali rather than being in a breakaway?
As your second paragraph indicated, you didn't actually watch it, which means you haven't seen that monster work Westra did. Fuglsang was amazing for staying with both and pulling the last 10k or so, but that was no comparison.

Amazing some of the nonsense I've read here about Froome today. Yeah, lets see one of main contenders quit out of the race on bad luck rather than skill or fitness..
Come to think of it, the Froome haters never really had a sensible argument.
Superb ride by Nibali and co, today though.
Having highest wattage is not skill but pure power, but skill... Froome has none, he doesn't know how to sit properly on bike and his pedaling is just painful to watch, and I won't even mention his bike handling skills. That being said I still feel sad for him as a human being.
Did you actually see the crash on stage 4? That basically made his crash today really. And the people talking about Wiggo make me laugh he is worst in the wet, i hope they no his Roubaix result was in dry. I guarantee if Froome did not get took down on tuesday he would have been fine yesterday i mean Contador was pretty bad, the cobbles were actualy ok very few crashes happen'd on them i think Froome would have been fine.
Do you think Froome would be fav for Vuelta if he starts? You would think Quintana will be the main threat with Contador doing 2 GT's. A Vuelta would look great in his palmares i think would show he is a potential great imo. |

Just got to see the end now since I had work earlier. Shame that Talansky wrecked or else he might have been in that 3rd group, I surely think he can pull a Top 5 now.. I think Nibali has a real good shot at winning this tour now.

lol at Cncellara doing his usual moaning i actaully love Spartacus but man he as whined ever since Sagan came on the scene. Yesterday he said he won't neutralise stage(which made me laugh), today he is moaning how wet it is and it's dangerous. |

Just to add, albeit well after the party ... you chaps complaining about cobbles in the tour should go and have a stiff drink and then slap yourself silly. This isn't tennis. Wrists will be bent. There should be more cobbles.
It was eleven more than necessary.

It is the Tour of France. There are cobbles in France. Dont see why there shouldnt be cobbles in the Tour.

Brilliant day of racing, i logged out from Daily with 30kms to go, to just enjoy the cycling at its best. This is cycling and i just hope we can see more stages like that in the future grand tours. Somebody sais that this is murder? Neutralizing the stage would be murder of cycling as the sport of suffering.
Astaana was incredible, maybe a bit too much good to my liking, but it was not like Sagan and Cance were simply dropped, but they are both like spoiled kids, not wanting to help each other. I get it why Sagan was not pulling, in the end 4th place is enough for him, as he cares about green the most, but Cance threw away possibly his best chance on a stage win, just because he does not like Sagan in his group.
Westra should have been given a medal of courage or some war cross, that was epic!
Froome. Well, not happy to see him ending like this one, but when i imagine him going full retard, i am not so sad. I know it sounds bad, but that is what SKY made of me.
Now we should have some great race ahead, with many people needing to gain big chunks of time, should be fun.

I always wanted to see the former Dutch CX champion to take a win in cobbled classics and after seeing Boom, I was happy.
Although I like team SKY a bit, I should blame them esp. Brailsford for not bringing Sir Wiggins into this race, he should have made a difference in today's stage.

okay.....
Phil and Paul are freakin annoying - don't quite know how many times I heard "Nibali is doing pretty well on the cobbles", he descends like a stone, he's arguably the best bike handler (and compared to the other GT riders, he's pretty heavy), are you surprised?
Honestly surprised to see the likes of Cancellara/Sagan not winning the stage, but I guess when you're caught behind a puncture, so be it
Looks like Nibali has the yellow sown up now, almost 2 mins on JVDB (his closest GC contender)
speaking of JVDB, can we give him the award for best crash? tumbling over the handlebars into that spectator
and for crashes too, looks like Froome injured his right wrist in that 2nd crash, so I'm not surprised (especially with his bandaged left one too) that he pulled out
Would this have been any different without cobbles? possibly
Sure most of the crashes were on the roads, but it would've been a LOT less frantic without the cobbles in - particularly with only one line through them
oh... and please give us a wet Roubaix next year, for the love of all that is good |

Anyone else hear 'Nibali is very good at throwing his bike round corners'?
Spoiler
Not quite as good as this though

Plus Mollema had Wynants and Leezer to help him. Aswell he was in the same group as the other favourites, and it's every man for himself on the cobbles imo. Brilliant decision by Belkin, because when you have specialists you should not waste them. |
