Agree, though it might be close for Lotto to stay in the world tour this year
with Vacansoleil and Euskaltel (presumely) quitting I doubt any team will relegate this year
If those 2 are gone who comes up to WT?
Hells 500 Crew and 6 x Everester
Don Rd Launching Place
Melbourne Hill Rd Warrandyte
Colby Drive Belgrave South
William Rd The Patch

Depens on who has the best season end. IAM seems most likely. Maybe Tinkoff if he can sign some big names.

The WT will probably return to 18 teams so only 1 will come up.

Hm, nice move for Lotto, Gallopin too, but not that expected. Will be interesting what kind of function he gets in the team.

WT could also be with 17 teams only. Just one more invitation sent to PCT teams.

Another proof the points system fails miserably. Well, not that Lotto did so well, but Greipel should be worth more than he is RiderValuePoints wise. |

That would be interesting.
Says a lot about the economics of the sport. |

Great that Gallopin signed with Lotto, shows that he isn't doing it for the money. It almost seems like Sky, Astana and OPQS are buying all the good riders (just like BMC a few years ago). |

Martinelli says he wants Nieve and Landa
Costa's agent says that 'Realistically, Garmin is the almost certain destination'. Will not stay at Movistar

Yes, they aren't. To make the matter worse, there were rumours that Garmin already have signed Slagter, and they're also interested in Nieve and Anton.
Stetina was rumoured to leave, though.
But Garmin are targetting stage races recently and they really need more climbing power to have proper leadership+domestiques for more races. Vaughters seems to enjoy having multiple GC options what allows him to ride like in USA Pro Cycling Challenge last year, or in Catalunya this year. |

Slagter wasn't rumoured. Pretty sure it was confirmed. |

I'm pretty sure there was a news that Slagter signed Garmin, and then it was denied by Slagter himself (he stated he was yet to make a final decision).

But having more climbing material is useful when you've got the leader on your team. Now if your leader's goal is only to hang on to the Sky train for as long as possible, having other climbers, be it one or half a dozen, around him is not going to make much of a difference. |

Hesjedal is offended by your comment
Anyway, the addition of Costa shouldn't be much of a problem. Stetina's likely leaving and Danielson isn't good enough anymore. That leaves Hesjedal, Martin and Talansky - all of which are mostly interested in the GTs, whereas Costa is better suited for week-long stage races.
The only major clashes I can see are the Ardennes and the Tour.

Well, you never know if you end up with unexpected lead and you need to control the race. Danielson was sent this year for Giro, because Hesjedal was one of the main favourites and you never know what would happen. Skt doesn't necessarily have to make a train each time it would be useful for Garmin. Without Danielson that team seemed to be too weak to protect Ryder. This also caused that Danielson was completely off-form during TdF and they don't have many options for Vuelta either. It looks like they lacked at least one more good climber this year. With Vande Velde retiring, it would be useful for them to sign at least 2 more good climbers- even 3 if rumours about Stetina leaving will turn out to be true.
And as I said- Vaughters enjoys having multiple GC options, to put them in dangerous breakaways. Doing that, he can often find out his rider in a succesfull breakaway and win a race with not having the strongest rider. It happened this year in Catalunya. It also helped to achieve success in Liege-Bastogne-Liege and last year's USA Pro Cycling Challenge. That's their strategy. They don't have Froome in their team, but having 3 or 4 guys who can win a race being in the right break-away certainly gives more options and more possibility of success than just having one strong rider. Even if you don't win GC, you can collect some stage wins, or KOM classification wins in the process. You also minimise the risk of failing to get into top10 at the end of the race.

Nope. He's leaving, but the team he's joining is yet uncofirmed.

Okay. So he only confirmed he would be leaving, but the team hasn't been announced. |
