It can be even better if he loose some time as we all know Roberto he would attack until he got all time back |

Thanks for the many replies everyone!
SSJ2Luidi: His time will come
francopell: He's dangerous indeed. With both MO and HILL stats above 80, he's definitely a threat.
TimoCycling: I agree, he should do this in real life maybe in 2014
FreitasPCM: Roberto gets better as the stages go on, so in the final week you can expect him to kill everyone
JuanMotr: That's true, he's a very determined rider
Jakstar22: He won't give up easily, but Nibali won't give up, too!
sutty68: I sure hope so |

Giro d'Italia 2014 - Stage 8
Could Roberto make a difference here? After the top of the mountain, there was a small descent and then a mini climb to the finish. All we knew is that Roberto would definitely try, he would always try. Unless he was first in ranking, he always gave it 110%. And even if he was first, that was no guarantee that he wouldn't attack, too.
Liquigas did most of the work, again.
Roberto tried it from far out. We could see that this attack wasn't at 100%, but it was a very fast pace nevertheless!
After a few minutes, Nibali grew restless about it and went hunting for him.
And so Roberto was on his way with Nibali and Mollema.
Unable to shake them on the climb, he successfully launched an attack in the small downhill section after the top.
We saw a determined Velásquez as he sprinted for every second. After such a demanding stage, this must've felt like hell.
The satisfaction must've been incredibly great when he won his first Giro stage.

Roberto Velásquez:
I'm content today. I think this Giro will be very hard. Today was like dying. Nibali and Mollema are impossible to shake off, and I tried plenty of times. I'm so exhausted right now, and it's only the start of the second week here.
I think I've discovered both weaknesses, though, and I plan on using them against them. Mollema has a record of slowing down a lot in the third week, so I'll worry about him in the final stages. He'll crack then, hopefully. Nibali is something different: he's tactical, strong uphill, strong downhill, a great time trialer. But his team is overconfident and I plan on taking them out one at the time. Isolate Nibali, and you isolate his chances. I'll put a lot of pressure on them, I hope I'm up for it! |

Giro d'Italia 2014 - Stage 9 - 13
In this chapter we will talk about how Roberto first conquered the Pink jersey, only to lose it two days later. Unfortunately, pictures seemed to have gone lost over the years, of these stages.
This is where Roberto conquered the Pink Jersey. There were some time differences due to some late attacks:
1 | Johny Piqué | Sky Pro Cycling | 4h31'18 | | 2 | Roberto Velásquez | Colombia Coldeportes | + 14 | IanButler | 3 | Sergio Luis Henao | Sky Pro Cycling | s.t. | | 4 | Michele Scarponi | Fissa Bartolo - Isd | + 48 | | 5 | Johnny Hoogerland | Movistar Team | s.t. | | 6 | Vincenzo Nibali | Liquigas-Cannondale | + 1'16 | | 7 | Jakob Fuglsang | Radioshack Nissan Trek | s.t. | | 8 | Damiano Cunego | Sky Pro Cycling | s.t. | | 9 | Elia Favilli | Farnese Vini Selle Italia | s.t. | | 10 | Oliver Zaugg | Radioshack Nissan Trek | s.t. | | 11 | Bauke Mollema | Rabobank Cycling Team | + 1'27
GC
1 | Roberto Velásquez | Colombia Coldeportes | 39h45'58 | IanButler | 2 | Bauke Mollema | Rabobank Cycling Team | + 4 | | 3 | Roman Kreuziger | Astana Pro Team | + 47 | | 4 | Johny Piqué | Sky Pro Cycling | + 1'00 | | 5 | Vincenzo Nibali | Liquigas-Cannondale | + 1'10 | | 6 | Gianluca Brambilla | Colnago - CSF Inox | + 2'12 | | 7 | Damiano Cunego | Sky Pro Cycling | + 3'03 | | 8 | Jakob Fuglsang | Radioshack Nissan Trek | + 3'08 | | 9 | Diego Ulissi | Fissa Bartolo - Isd | + 3'19 | | 10 | Rigoberto Uran | Sky Pro Cycling | + 3'21
Unfortunately, two days later:
Roberto was definitely having a bad day, and the many attacks were too much for him that day.
Result
1 | Rinaldo Nocentini | Ag2r La Mondiale | 3h39'13 | 2 | Morris Possoni | Fissa Bartolo - Isd | s.t. | 3 | Jan Bakelants | BMC Racing Team | s.t. | 4 | Gavin Stevens | Orica-GreenEDGE | + 5'30 | 5 | Julian Sanchez Pimienta | Mipfre - Euskadi | s.t. | 6 | Sergio Luis Henao | Sky Pro Cycling | + 7'05 | 7 | Tiago Machado | Radioshack Nissan Trek | s.t. | 8 | Johny Piqué | Sky Pro Cycling | + 7'26 | 9 | Francesco Reda | Omega Pharma-Quick-Step Cycling Team | s.t. | 10 | Rigoberto Uran | Sky Pro Cycling | s.t. | (...) | 18 | Vincenzo Nibali | Liquigas-Cannondale | + 7'49 | (...) | 23 | Bauke Mollema | Rabobank Cycling Team | + 8'14 | (...) | 35 | Roberto Velásquez | Colombia Coldeportes | + 9'22 | IanButler |
So right before the new wave of mountain stages, these were the standings:
GC
1 | Bauke Mollema | Rabobank Cycling Team | 48h25'39 | | 2 | Johny Piqué | Sky Pro Cycling | + 8 | | 3 | Roman Kreuziger | Astana Pro Team | + 18 | | 4 | Vincenzo Nibali | Liquigas-Cannondale | + 41 | | 5 | Roberto Velásquez | Colombia Coldeportes | + 1'04 | IanButler | 6 | Gianluca Brambilla | Colnago - CSF Inox | + 1'43 | | 7 | Jakob Fuglsang | Radioshack Nissan Trek | + 2'16 | | 8 | Rigoberto Uran | Sky Pro Cycling | + 2'29 | | 9 | Michele Scarponi | Fissa Bartolo - Isd | + 3'23 | | 10 | Damiano Cunego | Sky Pro Cycling | + 3'26
Points
1 | Theo Bos | Rabobank Cycling Team | 90 | | 2 | Elia Viviani | Liquigas-Cannondale | 84 | | 3 | Roberto Velásquez | Colombia Coldeportes | 80 | IanButler | 4 | Sergio Luis Henao | Sky Pro Cycling | 62 | | 5 | Mikhail Ignatiev | Katusha Team | 60
KoM
1 | Jan Bakelants | BMC Racing Team | 21 | | 2 | Morris Possoni | Fissa Bartolo - Isd | 15 | | 3 | Rinaldo Nocentini | Ag2r La Mondiale | 13 | | 4 | Luis Pasamontes R. | Katusha Team | 12 | | 5 | Roberto Velásquez | Colombia Coldeportes | 11 | IanButler |
So Roberto had tasted Pink, but lost it on a bad day. However, this Giro was far from over. Though Mollema was riding extremely well, and Nibali was still ahead of him, Roberto wasn't planning on giving up. His opinion at the time:
Mollema is holding up, but I still believe he'll slow down near the end. Kreuziger is surprisingly strong, but I'm confident that he won't hang on when I really go into the offense in the high mountains. Piqué isn't a threat, he's a great talent in the hills, but the mountains aren't his thing, he'll drop. Nibali is still my biggest worry. He pays constant attention and took advantage when I was having a bad day. This giro is still wide open.

Progressing very quickly. I think that Roberto will be able to crack the opposition despite being a minute down. |

1 minute down on Mollema and 20 seconds to Nibali, everything definitely looks possible. Roberto knows he can do it after riding stage 9

Amazing progression with the story. Chapeau.
May I ask who Johny Pique is, and how he suddenly competes with riders like Nibali in the Giro?

I think he said fairly early in the story that he had created Pique as a talent, that would be Roberto's biggest rival in the future

francopell: He will definitely try
andy222c: It's still possible, the hardest stages are yet to come, thanks!
Pellizotti2: Thanks a lot! Piqué was scouted by Cycling Team de Rijke and finished 2nd (I think) on the WC in Valkenberg. I then decided he's to become a great rival for Roberto so I edited his max stats and now he's at Sky with 81 HILL (but his MO is only 67, so he'll drop in the mountain stages)
Atlantius: Thanks for the assistance, it's correct except that I didn't create him myself, Cycling Team Rijke scouted him for me

Nice stage win in the Giro, too bad you lost the jersey. But I think you should be able to regain it!

What is GC-position for Henao because he beat all other riders in the hills/mountains.And his stats are very underrated.
