Thanks all for all the bananas. It took 4 seasons to get the first monument win. Now we "only" need an Ardennes win and the podium in the Tour. Wink
Hopefully I don`t need another 4 seasons for it...although I don`t have podium favourites for these races.

But at first two more classics in preparation for the Ardennes. Here`s the first:

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_April/ParisCamembert-logo.jpg

Paris - Camembert is used as a preparation race for the Ardennes classics. So our riders don`t have a perfect form but they should be able to get good results. The profile is very hilly, especially the 2nd half will be very hard, so a selection is expected.

The race was less selective then expected last year and so a group of 46 riders sprinted for the win. Hesjedal and Kessiakoff are surely no great sprinters and so they missed the top20 by just a bit. This year they hope for a stronger selection to perform better.

Garmin squad 2013
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_April/ParisCamembert-2.jpg
Roche and Kessiakoff will be our double lead. Both showed some good racing in Pais Vasco. Hesjedal is not in form unlike last year as he is not focusing the Ardennes that much.
Americans Butler, Barton, Duggan and Bookwalter are the main leaders plus young Australien sprinter Rowe, who has to fight hard for a new contract.

Favourites

*** Vaugrenard
** Maartens, Roche
* Kessiakoff, Fothen, El Fares

Vaugrenard must be named on home ground. He is also France`s biggest hope for good Ardennes results. Also El Fares is trying to show the French flag here. Roche and Kessiakoff are biggest Garmin bets next to Hesjedal and also the German duo with former Amstel winner Martens and last years champ Fothen can`t be underestimated.

Paris - Camembert
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_April/ParisCamembert-1.jpg
As said, the first half is not that hard but the second surely is. Lots of hills that will split the peloton.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_April/ParisCamembert-3.jpg
12 riders in a big group. Most of them are riding for smaller teams without a bigger favourite.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_April/ParisCamembert-4.jpg
In the peloton it`s mainly Luke Rowe trying to keep the gap small. Sometimes he is supported by the Rabobank guys.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_April/ParisCamembert-5.jpg
Later Garmin takes full control with Duggan, Bookwalter and Barton supporting him. The gap quickly becomes smaller.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_April/ParisCamembert-6.jpg
And with 70km to go Rabobank and FDJ start to work and the team cars can already be seen ahead.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_April/ParisCamembert-7.jpg
50km and now the first attack. David Le Lay (Ag2r) attacks. He is a decent puncheur.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_April/ParisCamembert-8.jpg
Some more riders attack and follow him. Vanspeybrouck, Geslin, Scheirlinckx and Bauer.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_April/ParisCamembert-9.jpg
With 17km to go the next attack and this time a far more serious one. Paul Martens attacks and De Waele and Chainel are following.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_April/ParisCamembert-10.jpg
Seeing that a small group of all these attackers is formin Garmin accelerates. It`s Kessiakoff and Hesjedal now doing a really high pace for Roche now.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_April/ParisCamembert-11.jpg
But something obviously went wrong. While Hesjedal and Kessiakoff were able to join the first group it`s our main leader to lose contact. The own pace was obviously too strong.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_April/ParisCamembert-12.jpg
It`s just Martens ahead now riding solo with FDJ still having 2 helpers to chase him down.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_April/ParisCamembert-13.jpg
This splits the group another time.
8 riders in the first group:
Martens (Rabo), Vaugrenard, Chainel, Geslin (FDJ), El Fares (Cofidis), Kadri (Ag2r), De Waele (Landbouwkrediet) and luckily also Kessiakoff (Garmin).
Hesjedal couldn`t follow and felt back.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_April/ParisCamembert-14.jpg
And it`s Martens being the strongest winning Paris - Camembert 2013. The German obviously is already in a great form for the Ardennes.
De Waele as 2nd and Vaugrenard as 3rd complete the podium. Kessiakoff sprints on a good 5th and continues to convince.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_April/ParisCamembert-15.jpg
Hesjedal finishes on a strong 10th considering his average form at the moment.

Roche was relaxing after the split and was 26th in the end.
He needs to improve to perform better in the Ardennes. Their Kessiakoff is surely one of the best helpers but to challenge the very best he misses still a bit.

Great win at P-R and another nice result for Garmin at Paris-Camembert! First monument in 4 seasons, that's not bad at all Smile Hesjedal looks strong, if he performs like this without being in best shape. Let's hope, he will do something special in the big Ardennes-classics! Who will be your leader for the classics, if not Hesjedal?

Thanks Tsmoha.
Except of Martens and Vaugrenard there were no top 15 riders for the Ardennes. So a 10th is not really that good here. Wink
Plus he won`t have more than 80 in the Ardennes. Nothing to expect. Kessiakoff should have something 92+ then and Roche 89/90 for the first Ardennes.
Plus Vansummeren coming in a good form from the cobbled classics.

So Hesjedal will have a helper role.

sutty68
2 riders in the top 10, you can't really argue with thatFrown

But the win would have been much nicerWink

Fantastic! This is a really good storySmile

I remember back when you nearly won MSR with Hesjedal, in Season 1 before you made it a story in Season 2, as it was in the SS section Smile

The very first season was pretty good, too. Hesjedal top 5 in Milan San Remo and Amstel Gold Race.
Can`t remember that I had put it into the screenshort section. Wink
Since then no single top 10 in the Ardennes and if I remember right also none in MSR.
So it`s highly time for it. Roche should do well there I hope.
